Tis the Season...
So I found a(nother) top hat at the flea market yesterday, and a person who saw me carrying it around asked if I was going to be a certain character for Halloween. (Mind you, I hadn’t really given any thought to my Halloween costume yet. I know, the horror!)
I initially said “Nope, just buying it for steampunk/Victorian dress up.”
But after some consideration...
Why not?

All will be made clear in due course. ;)
Got a beautiful black beaded vest in the mail yesterday, and it’s a perfect addition to my Graf von Krolock costume!
I’m not involved with planning this event, but I’ll be hosting an intro to makeup workshop, and collaborating on a costuming panel with some very esteemed Phantom costumers.
If you’re in the costume business or sell Phantom related items, this may be worth looking into for potential vendor opportunities. Or, if you’re in the area and looking to attend some Phantom related stuff, stop in and say hello!

So I'm trying to figure out what costume I'm going to wear for volunteering at my church's Bingo night tomorrow, and my thought process is to avoid costumes that:
1) Will be too warm and cumbersome to move around the tables with
2) Will require contact lenses because I don't like to drive with them in at night, and I really hate fussing with putting them in and taking them out anyway. (Sorry, Phantom is right out!)
3) Will terrify the little old ladies
4) Will get me excommunicated in case the Pastor stops by
This is going to be problematic.

There's a possibility I may go with a friend to a Lolita Tea Party in the near future. It looks like it could be a lot of fun!
Even though I'm not into lolita, I do appreciate many Elegant Gothic Lolita styles. As usual for me when it comes to costumed events, I'm having a great time cherrypicking things from my existing wardrobe that could be worked into an EGL outfit. I guess it's easiest for me to work with EGL because I already have a ton of Victorian Gothy clothing, so it's not really a huge stretch for me style-wise beyond having a higher skirt hemline than I usually go for. :)
ETA: After doing some research, it seems like my look is going to be more Aristocrat Lolita than EGL. Wow, there are a lot of lolita styles out there!

That moment when you get a brand new cosplay idea and you find out that you already have most of the components in your closet.
A.K.A. - winning at hoarding thrifted costume fodder. Woohoo! :D
DO IT.
I’m seriously thinking about it. I’d probably go with a Leroux look, but then I would need to do Leroux Erik too. XD I don’t know yet, I might just do ALW with a mustache or some mix of the too… I am still confused about this feeling. I had too much Raoul on my dash the past couple of days I think.
You are awesome! Raoul gets cosplayed so seldom (he doesn’t get nearly enough love in general, tbh). Please please post pics of your cosplay if you do it!
I know this wasn't directed specifically at me, but...

Yesterday I posted photos of myself and my friend from Steampunk unLimited. Today I'm sharing photographs I took of some of the many wonderful and creative costumes worn by attendees to the event. There were many more great costumes that I wish I had photographed, but just didn't manage to. I can't wait to go back next year!.
Hey! If you don't mind me asking, where do you get your victorian/steampunk attire? Do you make it all? I am looking to get some nice victorian dresses but I'm not sure where to look. Thanks and have a lovely day :)
Hello! Personally, I get most of my Victorian and Steampunk attire secondhand; namely from thrift shops, consignment clothing shops, flea markets and yard sales, antique/vintage stores, and occasionally online via eBay and Etsy. Alas, I am fairly inept as a seamstress (sewing machines terrify me!), but I can do basic things like replacing buttons and sewing trims onto existing garments by hand. This is useful for embellishing items that have a suitable cut, but are otherwise kind of plain. Aside from occasions where I plan for a specific look, I generally look for items that I can mix and match with other things. My wardrobe is filled with nice jackets, formal evening skirts, fancy scarves, vests, ruffled blouses, ‘granny boots’, and of course costume jewelry. Also, when rummaging through racks of secondhand clothes - I make it a point to train my eye to look for more formal fabrics; like velvet, brocade, lace, taffeta, silk, etc., which look more “period correct” for Steampunk/Victorian fashions. As far as purchasing complete ensembles as a custom order, I’ve only had experience with Recollections. They have a lot of beautiful designs to choose from, and you can pick from custom colors, fabrics, and sizes. They can be expensive, but they always have some styles on sale so look for those. I will also note that their sizing runs a bit large so if you’re on the fence about what size to order I’d air on the smaller side - or ask them for details. Thank for your question, and I hope you found my response helpful! :)
Gorgeous costume!
Photos of me with my friend Rob at Steampunk unLimited at the Strasburg Railroad! It was a really fun, low-key steampunk event, but I had a lot of fun and especially appreciated the opportunity to see and ride on the oldest running train in the country. The first photo was taken by Rob while we were riding in one of the beautiful passenger cars on the train. The second photo was taken by a photographer named Mike Zortman. The third photo was taken by Adam Blackburn, a professional staff photographer for Lancaster Online, for an article about the event.
A really crappy quality photo of how I dressed to greet Trick-or-Treaters tonight. Kinda threw it together at the last minute. I was silent the entire time and just waved and made gestures to communicate. Seemed pretty effective at making the kiddies slightly unsettled (not enough to overcome their desire for full size candy bars, though). Too bad there were only 5 kids who came to our door. *sigh*
