Cuz they’re American shows about British people?

Hey, to be fair, we've been plundering Africa for centuries. They can plunder some of OUR historical figures in return. For a treat.

I'm pretty sure most of these actors are American or British, anyways?

Amazing how many leftist positions aren’t based on equality or fairness, but simply getting revenge for sins committed generations ago, by and upon people who are all long dead.

Kevin Smith going from the guy complaining about all the pointless, inaccurate changes that Jon Peters wanted to make to his Superman Lives script that would completely miss the point of the story and make it unfaithful to the source material–to the guy who made Masters of the Universe: Revelations.

saw this gem on twitter

Me, reacting to Teela without her ugly half buzzcut and no makeup:

Also, man I really wish western animators/artists would take the fucking hint from Japan. Maki (pictured below Teela In Name Only) is prime example of how you can make a female character who is girly and strong, both physically and as a character.

You know the thing? Where you don't actually like a book/show that much but you are still bristling to defend it because other people are hating on it for completely WRONG reasons.

I'm going through it right now bc of the new he-man reboot and it's not pleasant. I mean this reboot tries SO HARD to be Dark and Meaningful which is a bit much for a colorful cartoon series about two rival gangs fighting over real estate.

Adam is by FAR my favorite character in this universe and I'm as disappointed he's not around much as anyone else but his whole identity complex thing? Is something that's interesting and needs to be addressed and I may not like the wannabe-grimdark nature of the show but at least it's trying to address it.

But instead of criticizing that people are bitching about Teela being the main character. I mean. For fucks sake. I see stuff all over the place where it's just "they made this bastion of manilness woke!" And seriously, for fucks sake. Teelas' emotional process should have been explored better. We should have spent more time on the fallout of the first episode instead of five minutes worth of reactions. All of those are legitimate complaints, and I'm sad that such an interesting topic- the impact of Adam as a person, beyond his superpowers, does not get more direct focus. (Yes episode 5 is my favorite but let's be real it's mostly a quest and what I need is more heart to heart.)

But there's only so many times you can watch guys on the internet complain about Teela while doing mental acrobatics to make sure they don't say "it's because she's a girl" before it stops being amusing and gets irritating and that number of times is one.

Good art and animation can't cover up for bad characters and storytelling. More so when the man in charge had to straight up lie in order to get people excited for it.

Also, I don't think Teela possessing a uterus is the reason people hate her when she throws a tantrum to a grieving family that her hurt feelings matter more than theirs.

Or when Teela has to go on a spirit quest to face her greatest fear and that fear is she's too perfect and awesome and can't be challenged because everyone around her is inferior.

Not to mention she has to be motivated to even save Eternia as the decreasing magical energy is threatening to destroy both it and the universe at large.

People also hate her because this mary sue archetype has been done to death since Rey, where it's all about tearing down the hero(es) who came before in order to prop up miss perfect as a better alternative.

I mean, you look at all Teela does and imagine her as a man, as difficult as that may be given how they tried so hard to design her as close to a man as possible, would you still be trying to defend her from the "dudebros who just hate Teela because she's a wahmen?"

Probably not.

re: MOTU

1. I kinda wonder how much Netflix viewing metrics have an effect on The Great Deception. I’ve heard viewing figures that count as little as two seconds as someone ‘watching’ a show. So imagine someone watches the first episode, gets to the part where He-Man dies, and turns it off in disgust to go watch Trading Spaces. That still counts as a view. Thus, you can see how someone, maybe named Kevin Smith, would be interested in lying about the entire premise of his show, since it means he gets to both make his Teela: The Series show and technically get the viewers he would have if he’d actually made He-Man 2 as promised.

2. Here’s where someone comes out and goes, no, they just didn’t want any spoilers! The premise of a show cannot be a spoiler. It’s supposed to be what gets you to watch. Saving Private Ryan: Ryan’s brothers all die and Tom Hanks is sent with his squad to retrieve the last living Ryan brother. That’s how the plot starts, it’s the entire reason to watch. Not “giving that away” is like saying “Tom Hanks is the lead character” is a spoiler or “it takes place in WW2″ is a spoiler.

Unless your ideal theatrical experience is people being put into a coma, then woken up to watch Black Widow having heard nothing about its plot, characters, filming, etc, people are going to know enough about the story to make an informed decision to watch it. Unless you’re advocating that people be told it’s a Captain America movie right up until the film starts and they find out, surprise, it’s all about Black Widow! Falcon and Bucky aren’t even in it!

I actually watched the new He-Man show and yeah Teela is a brat (not in the fun way), but the backlash is really overblown and it’s got some story left to tell for a sequel to the original show. Fuck, I’ll even do a polygraph test to prove I’m not lying. Hell, I am biologically incapable of lying.

Isn't the backlash largely from the misleading marketing and Kevin Smith pretty much flat out lying?

Yeah, when MOTU: Revelations’s script got leaked that He-Man would barely be in the show outside of the prologue and the series would mainly focus on Teela in her bad feminist haircut “getting the band back together to look for He-Man” while palling around with her black oc girlfriend, people were rightly pissed but Kevin said that wasn’t the show and that it was “He-Man’s story” even though Teela did play as large part in it, and the version that was leaked was either fake or from an old draft of the script.

Cut to the release and it turns out that “fake” and “old draft of the script” that leaked was actually 100% right. So yes, people are going to trash MUTO:R rightly so for being lied to on top of it being bad “modern update/sequel”.
