This article really sums up my ambivalence of The Batman and all the enthusiasm I’ve seen from fans. It praised the Penguin depiction we’ve seen in trailers as “fixing a problem” with Oswald, one that makes him more realistic.

To me, all they’ve done is stripped away every single identifiable part of Oswald Cobblepot, even the most superficial details, in order to turn him into a generic gangster. Even the prosthetic nose they gave him is barely noticeable, not the sort of thing that would earn him a birdlike moniker. They could have at least given him a beak like, say, Robert Englund but slightly exaggerated. It didn’t need to be a Cyranose! Just a beak nose!

I’m so tired of “realism” meaning watering down the iconic elements. We don’t love Batman for the realism. We love the fantastic and exaggerated and wild shit! If we didn’t, we wouldn’t love Batman at all! Why is everyone still afraid to embrace these characters for what they are? Why do we need to have them be made “realistic”? Because we’re embarrassed of them?

It just makes me feel like I’m being crazy here, the way everyone is loving this. To me, it’s like they put all this work and effort into making Colin Farrell look like James Gandolfini if you hit him with a truck. That’s not the Penguin. That’s just A Guy.

He Man Teela is the worst character I have seen in ages

The mercenary outfit also doesn’t evoke her “classic” design in this show. She looks like an entirely different character, except for a few token elements.

Also, hair blocking your vision on one side is…stupid.

That’s unfortunate, but not surprising as they did the same thing to Psylocke.

And they gave Mystique these stupid shorts in what was clearly meant to be her classic costume.

I can get… some vidya outrage. But this, of all things? What about these designs are worth getting upset over?

I just said it was disappointing, you’re the one making mountains out of molehills. Also, game with gambling mechanic and rated T for Teen = “for Children”? Okay bruh.

Also, man I really wish western animators/artists would take the fucking hint from Japan. Maki (pictured below Teela In Name Only) is prime example of how you can make a female character who is girly and strong, both physically and as a character.

Zendaya is I guess Hollywood’s go-to girl for taking a female character meant to be charismatic and attractive and then hobbling her like an unlucky racehorse.

Big fan of the controversy over Lola Bunny’s Space Jam 2 design now that she no longer has tits becuase now the typical crowd that complains about desexualized designs are the ones that usually hate furries, and thus have locked themselves into a dilemma if they want Lola’s furry milkers to be the hill they want to die on to own the liberals

Even better, a large majority of people (including myself) just lowkey forgot what Lola looked like and only recalled that one iconic fanart. She never actually had bazongas in the original movie, so legally anyone who complains about the loss of her bouncy bunnies is undeniably a furry

And I got these from a lola bunny compilation on YouTube. No wonder people thought the fanart was an original… It was more on model than the new one.

She is flat as a board, they removed her hips, her leg curves, etc. and literally gave her the same body type as bugs to make her less sexy and “more capable”. I’m so god damn tired of these (especially male) designers/directors/etc. saying “This character is too sexy and it makes me uncomfortable… Remove any sexiness from them to make me more comfortable and to make them more respectable and capable”.

And this is like, the third time at least i’ve seen this done in a cartoon. Miss Sara Bellum was removed from the ppg reboot for similar reasons. Miss Keane had her breasts removed for similar reasons. And now this.

I’m so god damn exhausted of any “sexiness” or any perceived breasts being removed from adult women even if they aren’t some anime mega honkers. Lola’s OG breasts were relatively normal size. Same for Sara Bellum and Keane. Yeah Sara Bellum was a lot more hour glass but I mean… the lady was the goat she fucking fisticuffed Sedusa and won.

But back on topic.

The idea that smart and capable women are always boyish and feminine women are always bimbos and idiots is straight up fucking misogynists. Lola was a feminine tomboy and the best player on the team minus Michael Jordan. To say that she isn’t capable or her design is “uncomfortable” is straight up misogynist. It’s just a backhanded way of slut shaming curvy women while praising non curvy women for being “smart” and being “respectable”. Why are we reverting back to the nonsense that tits/curves/feminine = uncapable bimbo??

The new Lola looks exactly like Bugs except with a different fur color and some more hair.. and it was all because the director was uncomfortable with curvy women and decided to make her “more capable” and “more respectable” because apparently being capable, respectable and curvy are mutually exclusive. Sorry ladies, you can only be one or the other.
