Hi! I love your blog and the best information I can find on the newer chapters is here, so thank you! Along with that, what do you think the relationship between ourCiel and realCiel is? I know we will find out in due time, but ourCiel doesn't look shocked when he finds realCiel, he looks afraid and that's concerning 🤔

Hi! No problem and thank you!

I think our Ciel was shocked and scared because (assuming real Ciel’s soul was devoured by Sebastian and our Ciel’s question to Sebastian “You have never lied to me, right?” in ch128 was about that) he knew that real Ciel can’t be a living human being, but must be a “bizarre doll”.

Back in Campania arc our Ciel was totally disgusted by the concept of bizarre dolls

so the fact that his own brother was turned into one probably freaked him out.

As for their relationship, judging from their conversation in ch90, 93, 95 and the bonus chapter “That butler, nursing”, it seems they got along quite well? When Ciel was traumatised and returned into his old, weak self due to the mustard gas in GW arc, he said

“Ciel!! I don’t want to be hurt anymore!!” (*Note: As always, the phrase is a little bit vague, so it could be either “Ciel doesn’t want to be hurt anymore” or “Ciel! I don’t want to be hurt anymore”, but now that we know that the boy in the cage was real Ciel and not some imaginary friend, I think the latter one makes more sense.)

and probably mistook Finny for real Ciel. So I believe our Ciel trusted and depended on his brother and was comforted a lot by his existence during their captivity. At least imo there’s no scene so far that suggests that the twins hated each other, so until it’s disproved, I’ll go by the headcanon that they got along well and cared for each other! :D

Yana’s art improvement 2006 → 2017 (ch2 → ch129)

In this tweet from June 17, Yana (who is usually extremey self-critical) FINALLY realised and admitted that her art has improved (a lot) over the years:

“When I drew this month’s chapter I created a scene that references a scene from ch2 (vol.1), so I reread the first volume thoroughly and thought ‘Even if one doesn’t realise it usually, it seems every human being gradually makes progress’. I’m touched. -Toboso.”

Here are some comparisons (ch2 → ch129):

I think another reason a lot of the people in the western fandom don't like the twin thing is because it's considered a super overdone cliche in english-speaking shows (and maybe mexican soap operas). I myself am from south america so I don't share this opinion lol, I only know about it cause it's kind of a general pop culture inside joke! If you google 'Evil Twin Trope' you can find more info on this :p anyway im super excited about real!Ciel lol also thanks for being such a helpful fan!

Thanks!

Oh I see, so the evil twin seems to be indeed a very common tv trope in the Western media!O_o Now I can truly understand why so many people described 2CT as “overused” and “cliché” and were disappointed by Yana (tbh I had never understood this argument until now) ^^;

In Japan, though, “the evil twin trope” is not *THAT* common, or more precisely, there are many books, movies, tv shows etc that feature twins, but not so many that the audience is fed up with it like in Western countries. At least I’ve never seen any complaints like “Please not twins, again” “This is so cliché” or “I expected Yana to be more creative” (i.e. comments I *often* see in the Western fandom) in the Japanese fandom D:

So I guess the general dislike of 2CT in the Western fandom probably stems from both linguistical problems and cultural differences. Too bad, as neither the inaccuracy of some foreign translations nor the “overused-ness” of twin tropes in Western media is actually Yana’s fault (*_*)

See I read a lot of recent manga (Mirai Nikki, Deadman Wonderland), and some others that covered mentally ill characters, (without going into spoilers.) So if Yana went that route I would have been mildly annoyed, because quite a few anime and manga series now have mentally ill  characters and that would have seemed a bit cliche to me if it was DID. I am only in my 20′s, so I don’t know about older media, but I grew up in the United States and haven’t seen many series or films where a missing twin had been played. (Just the Parent Trap actually.) Also in America we have a lot of police and detective shows, and every other villain usually had some mental illness. So sometimes the mentally ill trope can definitely be overplayed too.

In the light of the latest 2CT revelation...

just a friendly reminder that in this panel from the bonus chapter (vol.22) Vincent literally said

“But I do hope that you’ll follow the fate of my sons through to the end.”
[*Note: the picture above is not the original page from YP, but I edited (corrected) it because their translation of this line was inaccurate.]

And here’s the original Japanese text in case you need further proof:

「貴方達はどうか私の息子達の行く末を見守ってやってほしい」
(“Please watch over the fate of my sons.”)

And here they are, Vincent’s sons:

“I’m home”
“This can’t be true”
- chapter 129
