How to Get Remus Lupin Feels: Listen to Empty Chairs at Empty Tables from Les Miserables.
“Besides—if you like flying, Elvira should’ve been good enough for you.“
A scene from @izzythehutt‘s beautiful fic Black Mask, the second part of a beautiful Black-family centered series where Regulus survives and Sirius is thus forced to face his parents again. I had so much fun getting this image down (yes, I know in actuality Sirius would be wearing the helmet, but come on, his hair blowing in the wind? It had to be done.)
Colette Battancourt is such a fun OC that I did not expect to like so much, and it was a pleasure to draw her as I see her! I ended up trying to base her robes on an Edwardian style dress because she’s from a traditional wizarding family, which was a great change from the leather jacket, which I love as an aesthetic but cannot draw to save my life. What is anatomy? What is machinery? I do faces; what was I thinking? I’m still pretty proud of how it turned out, regardless.
A little edit I’ve been working on based off of the lovely Mischief Managers!
@themischiefmanagers hope you enjoy! I’m going to spruce it up a bit but it’s nearly done and I had to share. Love your work everyone!
do you have anymore ao3 harry potter fanfic reccomandations? (for any character of any era)(and if you have any more regulus black ones that would be nice too lol)
uh, yeah, you BET i do!
in (hopefully alphabetical) order, here's an assortment of fics that are just... *chef's kiss*. these run the gamut in terms of mc, setting, genre, tone, and length, so here's hoping you'll find something here you like-- though i do love them all!
a life of smoke and silvered glass (by @ink-splotch) - snape tries a bit harder to be a bit of a better friend to lily. or, canon, but two steps to the left. i did cry reading this one
a sirius of (un)fortunate events (by duskglass) - short fic about sirius replacing snape during OOTP, ft. everyone having a crush on new-snape, neville's improving grades, and draco malfoy losing it. minor wolfstar at the end
bad education (by magicspacehole) - bahahaa. tom riddle gets the professorship, but at what cost? (answer: actually having to instruct students, which simply isn't what he'd expected it to be)
birds of a feather (by amortenia) - a series, ft regulus waking up some time after dying and immediately becoming professor of creature care, putting him in canon at the start of PoA... it's just delightful
blackpool (by @funnydivine) - of course i need to include blackpool; what kind of a recommendation list would it be if i didn't? i'm sure if you're any fan of RAB fics you've read this one already, but if not, please do so immediately
blood will tell but often it tells too much (by elumish) - i admit i am a sucker for 'percy weasley during the war' tales. this one's a bit schindler's list-esque
circumstance (by winchesternimrod) - cedric diggory dies in the graveyard... and then he wakes up again. and again. i just love a timeloop story, and this is a brilliant one
curry sauce, scraps and a smack (by jaxon) - a wee one-shot about young snape and tobias if you're looking for something short and bittersweet
dark and difficult times (by @winterskywrites) - series with 2 entries concerning percy weasley's ~subversive activities~ during the war. ft. a wonderful portrayal of abeforth dumbledore!
dear cousin, love regulus (by @xx-thedarklord-xx & @celilasart) - draco malfoy grows up receiving letters from his dearly departed cousin, regulus black... this one did make me cry. drarry
diablerie (by @digitalta) - utterly delectable fic; another personal fave (mwuh). blitz-era tom riddle gets yote to the future by the Order, and things go as poorly as you can expect. ft. one of the best OCs i've read in a fic (crina !!), and an amazing ending. the payoff with this one is great
haunted (by pennygalleon) - a short one-shot with ghost regulus haunting grimmauld... and you BET sirius shows up
he can't hurt you if you're already dead (by @unspeakable3) - yes, it's another ghost!regulus fic. because that's my jam (as is anything by unspeakable3, i recommend scrolling through their profile and honestly clicking on anything at random-- you can't go wrong)
if death is a doorway, I am gate seeker (by @dwellordream) - lily potter survives. james potter does not. (angst. sisterly reconciliation. yes, i cried.)
in a country churchyard (by franzbibiothek) - cedric survives the end of GoF and decides to unwind by spending the summer with harry and the dursleys (cedric/harry)
it runs in the family (by justprompts) - hermione claims to be a gaunt in order to be better accepted by wizarding society. this is, of course, an awful idea
methods of humanity (by @kitastrophea) - series with the premice of quirrell getting the stone and voldemort being reborn a bit early. except, he finds himself seeking personal fulfilment by retiring from the dark lord lifestyle and moving into a new career at hogwarts instead
ouroboros (by novusars) - salazar slytherin is reborn as harry potter. ft. some of the most detailed world-building i have seen in fanfiction (i linked the fic proper, but do check out pt 1 of the series, which is a fantastic map)
no place like home (by @/ink-splotch) - harry grows up as a ward of hogwarts, rather than on privet drive (like the previous one by this author, this fic hurts)
professor black (by @lyricfrost13) - yes, if you cannot tell from the title, it's another regulus-as-a-hogwarts-professor fic! this one takes place during PoA, of course :)
registration (by @copperbadge) - a short one-shot where sirius and remus queue camp for harry's hogwarts registration. it's completely fantastic
seventh horcrux (by emeraldashes) - a crack-fic classic that i'm throwing in here for good measure, as it's one of my personal favourites
strange visitors from another century (by @izzaro) - a completely delightful fic wherein our golden trio gets sent back in time to the founders' era. salazar really shines in this one
slytherin career day (by cambangst) - snape attempts to give career advice to our favourite slytherins. and, yes, it goes about as poorly as you'd expect it to
styx (by @/funnydivine) - this is, without exaggeration, one of my favourite fics of all time. regulus in grimmauld place, one moody summer night. go in knowing nothing more.
the carriage held (by @sirelliotwrites) - a severus-centric story as he looks on at a harry potter who seems... different? first-person, if that affects your decision to read it any (although, i must say, as someone who doesn't like first-person in fics, this is some wonderfully done first-person pov)
the changeling (by @annerbhp) - another classic, follows ginny weasley in slytherin for all seven years. i love a great depiction of ginny, and this is probably the greatest i've read
there is nothing to fear (by callmesalticidae) - tom riddle is sorted into gryffindor, and this somehow makes everything so. much. worse (series)
unknell'd (by @/unspeakable3) - all i have to say about this one is ow. another reg-centric one, this time about the afterlife and alphard. cried when i read this
voldemort's second cousin (three times removed) (by thewomaningreen) - regulus has Concerns about voldemort's family, namely, that he doesn't know who they are... no worries, he's as much of a swot as usual and he'll be getting to the bottom of all this
whisky vision (by @tombraxas) - mrs cole appreciates tom riddle, mostly because he, too, hates orphans. i love mrs cole and tom's friendship in this. what an underutilised concept!
who discovered your secret (by lullabyknell) - harry potter has a strange neighbour. spoiler alert: it's one regulus black
with a name like mine (by @smilebackwards) - potions professor regulus black during PoA?? sign. me. up.
Hi yes if you liked Professor Black I’m absolutely going to add the rest of these to my to read list because I wrote that so self-indulgently it’s not even funny
Kreacher’s unending loyalty has allowed Regulus to survive the Inferi. In order to destroy the horcrux and ensure Voldemort’s death, he goes back to Hogwarts, this time as a Potions professor. Years at this position give him new insights, even as the papers rave about how both the Blacks were traitors to their sides.
When Sirius gets loose from Azkaban, Regulus knows one thing: he is not going to let his lunatic brother hurt his students.

Guess who finally wrote through the Sorcerer’s Stone timeline? This girl!

Can we have a Harry Potter AU where Regulus Black is the Death Eater spy turned potions master instead of Snape?
I am always so freaking dialogue heavy but I finally made it to Harry’s first year, so we’ve got some interesting interactions going!
We get a bit of time between him nearly dying and Harry coming to Hogwarts, so I stole the Hogwarts Mystery characters to give him time to establish himself as a professor and to reconcile with Narcissa and Andromeda. Once I get to Prisoner of Azkaban it’s going to be fun dealing with Remus.
