Genuinely, what happened to “feminism is for everyone”?

That’s the feminism I grew up with: encouraging people to recognize that fighting sexism and restrictive gender roles helps folks of every gender. We’d push back on the idea that feminists hate men, pointing to inclusive feminist literature and how many men are feminists.

Now, there are so many people insisting that the solution to patriarchy is to openly hate and ostracize men no matter what. Why? What is the benefit? It’s certainly not effective in fighting oppressive structures to exclude half the population from your cause on the basis of immutable traits. It may feel cathartic to say horrible things about men and try to punish them for your frustrations with patriarchy. But the only actual effect I see is the increasing right-wing radicalization of young men, who are being told that the left hates them for the way they were born and presented with an abundance of proof that it’s true.

Why are we going back to treating men and women as different species? It doesn’t fix things to say “well women are the good gender and men are the bad one” this time. If you sincerely want to dismantle sexism, you’re going to have to unpack and let go of all sex and gender essentialism—even that which considers women inherently pure and men inherently immoral.

Just so like... it's clear... anyone who censors words that contain "man" or "men" to anything like "xxn" that's TERF shit.

Any reference to women/womanhood that solely revolves around having a uterus or "womb" is TERF shit.

Any sentence where the OP says they support people being "trans identified" with quotes around ""transwomen"" or ""transmen"" is TERF shit.

"Wombxxn" is an incredibly dumb way of spelling "woman" that treats the word "man" like a slur and also reduces women to their ability to give birth.

"Trans identified" is their way of saying "this person calls themselves trans, but I don't believe they are."

Saying "People should be allowed to identify however they wish, but we still need to protect women/children" IS TERF SHIT.

Learn to identify this garbage, because not all TERFs are going to spell out their intolerance for you. Some of them are going to try and seem reasonable and polite and normal, and it's fucking dangerous to our community.

Also unpack any internalized transphobia and your transmedicalism, because both those things will have you quickly siding with TERFs and bigots.

"Males" is a dogwhistle that should raise your hackles just like "females" does when it's a shitty dude.

let lgbtq authors write about tragedy with lgbtq characters. let them write about death, toxic relationships, abuse. let them write about what it is like to be human without having to worry about “good representation” and bury your gays when the stories they want to tell may include the ugly sides of living.

 i’m exhausted of hearing about authors being forced to out themselves when accused of bad representation, queerbaiting, or bury your gays. 

i don’t think authors (even lgbtq authors!) are infallible in the way they can portray lgbtq characters, and they should accept criticism but also i’m fucking tired of the concept that Every lgbtq Character needs to be the Pinnacle of Purity otherwise it’s ‘bad representation’ 

The LGBT+ community really has a problem with this, especially when it comes to real people. This idea that LGBT+ people/characters can do no wrong and they need to be portrayed that way or else it’s toxic and relying on stereotypes.

If heterosexual characters are allowed to be evil and broken and messy and be praised for it, then lgbtq+ characters should also be allowed

anything about being a “real lesbian” or “keeping men out of lesbian spaces” is terf rhetoric. often used unknowingly, but still terf rhetoric that you should avoid sharing like the plague

That "gender affirming care for cis kids" is medical abuse of intersex people meant to 'fix' our intersex traits. And that is perfectly in line with the conservative ideology; in service to the goal of enforcement of the sex binary and eradicating Freaks that can't be sorted into a box. They aren't hypocritical, or misguided, or stupid they're fucking evil. They know this happens to intersex people and they want to make sure it keeps happening. Because they hate us.

It's so much worse than hypocrisy.

It's about eradicating otherness.

It's about them having control over this, because they think they know what's good for everyone, they think they know what sex and gender should be like—an oppressive binary that they'll forcefully shove everyone into, and a set in stone border that no one is allowed to even brush against, because that makes them uncomfortable, because they fucking need everything to stay the same, and when they're uncomfortable, they get angry and violent.

I love that the internet saw people comparing women and other alienated groups of people and went, “they’re dating,” and, “they support each other.” We’re improving as a society.

I've seen a few of these before, but it doesn't hurt to make more. Especially when we're seeing a lot of radfem rhetoric popping up in LGBT spaces from people who might not know better.

SCREENNAMES: these are terms that commonly appear in radfem usernames across the web
