Charmless is set in a pop-surrealistic fairy-tale world that follows a rotten prince named Olie, and his knight, Gale. After scaring off every princess willing to marry him, his mother ships him off to his aunt’s kingdom. Everyone around here acts a bit too stiff, and smile far too wide for his comfort. The newly crowned step-princess seems to have a fondness for stuffed dolls and him. He will soon find out that his stay here, will be a permanent one.

I’m practicing using Adobe Animate for polished stuff. Surprised how well these lil animations export. I decided to do a lil scene featuring young Olie and Gale. I’m sort of tired of doing concept work, I’m itching to get back into animation/comics. T^T

Rotten Blood  [Charmless Concept]

It's the home stretch to finish my portfolio before graduation. So I'm pouring all my time into my last story-concept, Charmless, which is really fun because I'd never put that much time into developing it.

I think you'll guys are going to love it, pastel goth, Victorian, fantasy horror, it's gonna be great.

For my last class animation project I decided to do a study of different styles by referencing different animations, mashing them together to create a scene then redrawing that scene with my own characters and mixing up some audio to fit that scene. Overall I learned a lot doing this study, credits are at the end of the video or inbetween. A sketch request I got from one my patrons, I had to finish and color it. I’m really digging this type of lining style, it’s not perfect but it’s less pressure on my wrist for a sharp clean line.

Princess Blossom and her “fairy godmother”, Merry. Since birth she never really fit in with the others, and the young charmless prince was the only one who didn’t shun her for her odd behavior. But after a bloody incident she was shut away by her parents to “get better”. The princess returns years later, but the treatment only taught her how to never get caught again.

This was my final project for my animation class, I pushed myself to use Toonboom harmony for everything. I decided to use this old audio clip I mixed together months ago, never got the chance to do anything with it.

Working on new Charmless style, trying to make it as different from SKZ as possible. So I went with a rounder, more cartoony look, with desaturated colors and harsher dark lines. It’ll be fun to make an animatic of this in the future, see where that goes.
