It’s the final day of @roguegambitweek, and for this free day, I’m sharing with you the stretch goal picture I did for @rogue-gambit-fan-zine. ☺️
I’m still a little salty we didn’t get a scene between those two when they were all dressed up and looking so fine together. 😭

hey i’m sorry for bothering you with this question but i can’t remember where i read this scene… it’s one where remy is in jean-luc’s study after he k*lled belladonna’s brother; jean-luc is very mad breaking the news to remy he’s being exiled. then remy asks what he would do if he couldn’t find a way to survive — something like that — and jean-luc replies something along the lines of “then my son… you steal from faith”. i thought it was from HOC trilogy but i can’t find it! maybe it’s in coda? (i’ll definitely reread everything when i have the time)
Okay, I had to check this one too! It's in chapter 20 of Arrow of Time, The Reconciliation. It's on p. 347 of the print version. And the quote is 'you steal from fate'. Which is... I know I got that from somewhere, but I can't remember where. Was it from Gambit (1999)? Or from X-Treme X-Men? For the life of me, I can't remember now. Anyway, I think Remy says to Rogue, 'Let's steal another one from fate', and I took the line from there, but it all escapes me now. 🤔
And can I just say how wonderful it is that you connected with all Remy's childhood moments, the ones with his father. I'm so happy they resonated with you. I have ... thoughts and feelings about father/child relationships. They always touch me in some way. Glad you felt the same way too, through my words. 🫶🏼

oh i wish i could edit my previous messages… since i’ve listed some of my favorite scenes it’s unfair i don’t mention one of my favorite quotes from the trilogy, the one where remy says “I k*lled for you, Rogue. Not once. Not twice. Over and over and over.” … people died!!!! seriously i almost did. (i should stop messaging you now 😂 otherwise i’ll practically send you the entire trilogy in tiny messages just so i can tell you “this scene changed my life thank you”)
OMG, yes!! That is absolutely one of my favourite scenes! Especially cos afterwards, Rogue is like, I want more from you, even though I know you might not ever be able to give it to me. Because Remy basically confessed his undying love for her despite himself. Heheh. 😏
Actually, I had to go and check that quote, and, uh, you got it perfectly. Even I had forgotten it. LOL. You're putting me back on a HoC kick. 🤭

(same anon from before) the Hound Pens scene and those scenes from Arrow of Time were some of my favorites too!! everything was so well written! i couldn’t put it down till i was finished. also remy’s psyche living in rogue’s head was my roman empire while i was reading HOC, it was so heartbreaking... another scene i would like to mention is one of remy’s memories; the one where he makes henri cry in the church and jean luc sits down to have a conversation with him. when remy points the differences between he and his brother and his father says “you’re my son in every way that matters”. 😭 definitely one of my favorite moments. from time to time i caught myself thinking about young remy, this scene resonates with me in ways i can’t explain — i really love HOC universe, it all just fits together perfectly!

I'm so glad you mentioned Psyche-Remy, because there is something so touching and bittersweet about how pure his love for Rogue is, and how he is finally wiped out forever in the end. I wanted to write more from his perspective, so I wrote Man & Ghost, which is still sadly unfinished, and I'm not sure whether it will ever be finished now. But yes, he is a really beloved side character to me.
And the scene you mention is in Twist of Fate, in chapter 6, Moonlighting. It starts on p. 104 of the print version. I actually had to look that up, because I had forgotten all about it! I'd actually forgotten that I had written so much about Remy's childhood in that story - funny. I guess I had to find a way to humanise him despite everything he has done, and goes on to do. 🥹
hey! i don’t know if you already answered questions about this before but where there any specific scenes in HoC trilogy you were really looking forward to write? what were your favorite parts?

That's a really great question! I have to say that I really enjoyed writing all the sex scenes, lol 😆 But apart from that, in the first book I loved the showdown at the Hound Pens, and in Arrow of Time all of the part from where they meet the Phoenix onwards, especially where Rogue meets past Irene and sets in motion basically everything that happens.
I also have a general fondness for writing Gambit and his thoughts on Rogue in the privacy of his own head. It was especially delicious to write those parts in HoC because he was especially douchebaggy and his loyalties were more ambiguous. The entire section in Arrow of Time where he's helping Sinister to experiment on her was fun to write, because I had a blast making him seem like he had turned and gone cold, when inside he's really doing anything he can to save her. I like to think the way he manipulates people is something of an art. Writing that slipperiness into his words and actions is a joy, because it is an exercise in seeing if I can fool the reader as much as he can fool the people around him 😜
