Making a point

being aware that your behavior is shaped by childhood experiences is so cringe every time i notice it im like ooo look at her can't even get over what someone told him when she was 7. grow up

You didn’t have coping mechanisms when you were 7. You maybe had a stuffed animal to hold. 

You also didn’t have full adult coping mechanisms at 14. Except maybe the stuffed animal, and everyone said you were too old to hug it for comfort. 

That made it worse, see? Shit happened to you when you didn’t have any training or tools to cope with it. These things are formative experiences, they shape how you go forward, even after you’ve hopefully grown up and learned how to deal.

And no, it doesn’t have to be TRAUMA stuff that happened for it to affect you forever. It’s not stupid to still be upset or bothered or fucking haunted by something that happened when you were a kid or a teenager even if you think compared to other people’s experiences it wasn’t that severe, because it affected you. “Formative” means “was part of your creation” meaning you formed who you are now to some degree around whatever things happened as a kid.

Cut yourselves some slack, y’all.
