It’s a wild scene, emblematic of the ever-growing hostility between San Francisco residents and the big tech companies that use the city’s public streets as a testing ground for self-driving cars.
The presence of self-driving cars in the city has been controversial. Last week, a Waymo vehicle struck a cyclist, leading to minor injuries and sparking a regulatory review.
In October, a woman who was hit by a human-driven car fell into the path of a Cruise driverless vehicle which dragged her 20 feet. Cruise initially omitted this in its description of the incident to California’s DMV, prompting the agency to suspend the company’s license.
In 2018, police in Arizona recorded 21 incidents where people attacked Waymo self-driving cars, including by slashing their tires. In 2022, also in Arizona, an angry pedestrian punctured the windshield, injuring the safety driver. Negative sentiment toward tech companies has been percolating in San Francisco specifically as their influence has become inescapable. In 2018, charter buses for workers at Google and Apple were vandalized with objects which may have been rocks or even pellet guns.

I just listened to a podcast with an A.I. research scientist. She said if you wouldn’t trust autocorrect to be in charge of a decision, then you shouldn’t trust another A.I. with it, so… that’s something to worry about

So far I haven’t encountered this nonsense with ProWritingAid - but then I handle ProWritingAid incorrect suggestions with a whip and a chair, and tend to see any given error only once. Having built a customised spellcheck dictionary is also a great help.
Of course, having mentioned that I haven’t had any trouble, and Murphy’s Law being what it is, let’s see what happens next.
AFAIK, whenever an error like this pops up the thing to do is correct it, and do whatever clicking means the app or program remembers the correction.
It helps to know what the correction IS, of course.
If in doubt, check. From the above info it looks like a lot of people don’t bother and just click the error, reinforcing it as “correct”.
Dictionaries aren’t expensive, second-hand ones are downright cheap, and IMO it doesn’t matter that older dictionaries don’t have New Words added in the past few years, they’ll have a hundred thousand or so of Old Words - and their meanings - which are still in common use.
I was given this thing when I was but a lad…
…and since nobody had told me you don’t read dictionaries like novels, that’s exactly what I did.
So…
A spell-checker might catch me out on a misspelling - for instance I’ve an odd blind spot about “I-before-E-except-after-C” - but it’s not getting away with suggesting I use “rein” instead of “reign”, or “horde” instead of “hoard”, and let’s not get into stuff like “read” and “read” or “lead”, “lead” and “led”.
“I read (red) it last week” and “I read (reed) it every day”, also “lead (led) is heavy”, “you can lead (leed) a horse to water”, “my dog bites his lead (leed)” and “I was led (led) down the garden path”.
I wonder what AI would make of that lot.

Something fascinating about this is that it’s only been happening to me lately. Don’t get me wrong, Google Docs autocorrect has always been a bit shit, but it’s never been as blatantly wrong as it has in the last few months. An already mediocre feature has been actively made worse for no reason at all.

yknow AI art has ruined an entire genre of painting to me, i saw one of those smooth anime-realism pieces and immidiately thought ''ugh, AI art'' until i noticed it was posted by an established deviantart user 6 years ago. like ive never been a huge fan of that genre but it looks like a pretty difficult style to master and i feel bad for the artists who specialized in anime-realism only to have their entire market jacked by people typing keywords into midjourney.
I have something to add to this. every single time I look up reference pictures, I get shitty ai generated bullshit. I've actually reached the point where I discovered that pasting this into google gives you a solid filter for 99% of the ai art. typing in -"word" will filter out all results with that word. I might end up making another one to filter out costumes and all that shit for better historical results when looking at outfits for my characters from various time periods.
if you don't put a space before it, it won't work so keep that in mind. if there are any I might have missed that are still coming up in your results, put them in tags. and I'll add them to the original post. if you see this and you end up using it, please reblog so more people, especially artists and charecter designers, are able to find it. Google is becoming rapidly unstable due to the influx of ai art, and it makes me incredibly sad, first of all, that my work as an artist is becoming rabidly obsolete. This is not worth it. Ai art is not worth it.
Here is the anti ai filter, note that this only works for image searches and only serves as a filter for art. due to the amount of ai writing concealed in media, I have no real way to create a filter for that. I hope this helps the art homies who are sick of this shit, and the people who just want to look at human art for a change:

The argument here is that someday—not now, but someday—Google promises to turn off third-party tracking cookies in Chrome, and the new ad platform, which has some limitations, is better than the free-for-all that is third-party cookies. The thing is, third-party cookies mostly only affect Chrome users. Apple and Firefox have both been blocking third-party cookies for years and won't be implementing Google's new advertising system—it's only the Chromium browsers that still allow them. That's actually what started this whole process: Apple dealt a giant blow to Google's core revenue stream when it blocked third-party cookies in Safari in 2020. While it was a win for privacy, Google's not following suit until it can secure its advertising business. The Federated Learning of Cohorts and now the Topics API are part of a plan to pitch an "alternative" tracking platform, and Google argues that there has to be a tracking alternative—you can't just not be spied on. The Electronic Frontier Foundation also argued this when it called Google's FLoC a "terrible idea," saying "[Google's] framing is based on a false premise that we have to choose between 'old tracking' and 'new tracking.' It’s not either-or. Instead of re-inventing the tracking wheel, we should imagine a better world without the myriad problems of targeted ads."
