The Senate voted unanimously to make Juneteenth a national holiday.

That means EVERY republican senator voted to make Juneteenth a national holiday. NONE of them objected. That includes the most racist of them. So that shows you what an empty gesture it is, because the likes of Mitch McConnell and Ted Cruz were like "*shrug* why not?"

They're trying to wipe Critical Race Theory and the 1619 Project clean from the curriculum and go back to pretending slavery never happened or wasn't "that bad" and of course go back to pretending racism is over and denying systemic racism exists. That is the current news wave. That is trending, pressing, news.

And in the midst of that they go "sure, let's make the day that literally marks the end of slavery a day of recognition" because it doesn't mean shit.

Now, Juneteenth should be a national holiday and this would be great news if it came with approval of Critical Race Theory and MAYBE if they also passed the goddamn Voting Rights Act and stopped implementing Jim Crow era-type suppressive voting laws in a different state every month.

There's no action behind it. It's empty. It's useless.

And trying to frame BLM activism being commodified by media as proof that black people suddenly have it easier than them. Some of y’all white/nonblack people rbing those posts need to get better at spotting when they’re just thinly veiled anti BLM vagueposts. But I am getting tired of seeing posts like those being put on my dash like every other few months. I get that it’s hard to keep track of every sort of vague anti BLM post made by british/italian european tumblr. But you have GOT to try harder. You owe it to black people to learn the dogwhistles on your own. Instead of expecting us to hold your hand explaining the basics to you. Please do better when it comes to this issue. If the white/nonblack leftist tumblr communities were better I wouldn’t even be having to make this post. But unfortunately that’s not the reality. It’s such a rampant problem that that is why I feel the need to make this post. If you send asks asking what are the subtler anti BLM dogwhistles from british/italian european tumblr I’m willing to answer them if I’m not distracted/running on low spoons. Just please at least do more, it’s so tiring to see this shit on my dash so regularly from white/nonblack mutuals. Please boost this as well. Just about anyone can reblog just don’t start any discourse or you’re getting blocked and possibly publicly called out.

Y’all need to recognize that black resistance isn’t interchangeable with other minorities. You can’t take the black out of “black lives matter” or “black excellence” or “black girl magic” and substitute it with “women” or “Asian” or “trans” or “gay” ect. Doing so really dilutes our message and it’s just another form of appropriation that harms black activism. You need to find your own forms of resistance and respect ours as intrinsically tied to blackness.

Among the 24 protesters arrested last night was Representative Attica Scott, author of Breonna [Taylor’s] Law and the only Black woman on Kentucky’s state legislature. She was arrested while crossing the street past curfew and has been charged with 1st degree rioting. Video evidence shows no rioting by her.

All 4 officers involved in the murder of Breonna Taylor have been cleared of any murder charges by a Kentucky Grand Jury Wednesday.

I never want to see the words “officer-involved-shooting” again. Editors need to stop instituting these non-phrases as a part of their journalistic guidelines. It always means “a police officer shot a person.” It was invented by the LAPD as a means to manage public relations after the 1979 murder of Eula Mae Love by police officers. It is passive and confusing wording, and more than that, serves to obfuscate the violence created by police officers and mobilizes media to excuse police brutality.
