I write stuff and sometimes I sell it. I haven't been that successful at selling short work but I guess I do all right. Today I decided to look at my story list and submission status (is it retired, on submission, or published) and analyze that with how queer the story is.
Verdict: Most of my successful stuff is pretty damn queer and no one is surprised. (Titles redacted.)
One of the short stories I submitted recently just got selected for publication. I had pretty much already accepted that I would never sell this story but hey there ya go.

That leaves three pending stories out there. One of them I won’t even know ‘til next year though
Feels good to finally sell short fiction again after not doing this for a couple years.
Also I have to laugh, coming up with what bio to use when they publish it is hilarious because it’s like “Oh, well would you look at that list of book awards, it seems her book was a winner in Queer Shit, took the silver in Queer Shit, and got these two other nominations--for Gay Stuff and, er, Sexuality/Relationships (aka gayyyy).”

Two out of the three other short fiction pieces I sold a while back were also queer stories. perhaps you are sensing a theme
Hmm, of the other stories that are out on submission, one is queer and two are not. I have a super queer story where the only straight character in it is a villain, but it’s so long nobody wants it. I should look for markets for that one again.

Finally started sending out some short stories again last night. Was looking at my stats and couldn’t believe how long it’s been since I sold a story. Happy to be back in the saddle again. :D
