Reading a new dawn was so wild to me because

  • Kanan is a functionally alcoholic who is driving transports from the space sweatshop moon where they mine *checks notes* explosives??
  • Hera effectively doesn’t really show up until a good third of the way through the book? (Worth it tho)
  • Kanan adopts his right-wing Q-anon coworker who actually ends up being right about everything AND the 34 year old FBI agent that monitors their phones
  • Kanan and his adopted children get in about 10 different bar fights that all end with either Hera making a cameo appearance by saving their asses or they steal a space train
  • Hera ends up being the head conspiracy theorist that gives the information to the Q-anon guy
  • *in despicable me voice* “We, the empire, are going to steal blow up the mooooon!”
  • Kanan apparently also adopted like all the other coworkers and neighbors he knows??
  • A good half of the book is whump/angst, the other half is vehicular malewife, malevolence, and manslaughter.
  • Diversity win! The dead people are gay!
  • I’m also 50% sure they adopt a literal child in the book?
  • Hera ends up adopting Kanan and chopper makes a cameo appearance at the end
  • Dave Filoni oversaw the whole thing and basically hired someone to write his fanfic for him
