i’m not joking about how much i love webcomics btw. this is why stuff like webtoon feels so hostile to human life. webcomics are supposed to be for like, sporadically updated comics made by hobbyists about their unpublishable YA premises, or shockingly competent polished graphic novels that have nevertheless been running for 100 years and make no fucking sense, like, niche, labor of love projects hosted on vaguely pre-web2.0 sites and available to read completely for free. this is the best kind of media that exists

Seeing all the anti-webtoon rhetoric makes me sad.

Like, man, most of us webtoon authors started indie, publishing on smackjeeves or drunkduck, on the comic part of mangabullet, page by page on deviantart. We wanted to tell stories and... Well, we embraced the scroll format eventually.

And now you're putting us in a completely different bag just because of the platform? Like whatever story we wanted to tell is irrelevant because we ended up moving to the place where our stories would be heard without us having to pay for a domain?

Indie comics rock. Pages updated every blue moon are exciting af, visual artists are The Shit (tm). As a webtoon original author I'd never look down on where I came from, a path parallel to the one I'm walking rn, so it's a bummer when others villainize my passion project ("No! Not *all* webtoons!", screams someone at the back and I laugh) which so happens to be posted to WT.

"We're referring to the platform, not the works", you say, but in doing so you're also shunning the works by judging where they're posted.

In any case, I echo the sentiment. Webcomics rule. They've kept me alive. I no longer update every blue moon but only because now they're my job. And if you look around, you'll find gems in webtoon as niche and weird and senseless as you may dream. Art is everywhere and I'm glad webcomics are a thing.
