It was another simultaneous assault of the mind when she had barely recovered from Ord Mantell. She collapsed to the ground, her fall stopped by the tree behind her. The fear was similar to that of her early days of Nathema. Rio’s rejection slowly faded to the background, replaced by this devastating news. Correcting her breathing was an uphill battle.

Her body was strained but she had to keep running. A particular spot behind some large industrial containers seemed secluded enough. She had to stop her hands from shaking to dial Serrus who answered promptly with a haunted expression. From his point of view, it looked as if Vaylin was in a quake zone from the shivering. 

“My Lady… take your time. I’m all ears.”

The ride home was quiet. Even though Senya was tense, she couldn't hide the smile from finally having a peaceful moment alone with her daughter. The longing questions for her only remained in her mind. But the awkward silence chipped away what little composure Vaylin had. She turned on the holo screen to a news report of an Imperial speech, stating their aim to be more inclusive and progressive. 

An hour and a hyperspace jump later, Zakuul was right in front of them. Home. Vaylin closed her eyes, head downturned, and mind full of regrets. But mother’s voice snapped her out of it. 

“We’re landing soon. I’ve let them know you’re visiting.”

The preparation was prompt but swift. Lana stayed behind to continue running the base, wishing the Force's omnipotence upon the twin. However, they were met with Theron and Senya; the latter was having a tense discussion with her son.

"Yes, but there might be a chance something can go wrong. I'm doing this so you can continue being the father you want to be to your daughters."

"But you-"

"They will decide."

The beeping of the heart rate monitor guided Rio through his dreams. His steps were heavy, eyes hazy, and mind empty. It was a strange place to be despite the many planets he had visited. A hand held out to him, presenting a warmth to his shivering self. He was greeted by Tau’s smile. Both of them walked wordlessly towards a faint light, with him leaning into her strong arms.

But there was a speck of darkness in the light, expanding and inviting him. The pull was so strong that as he looked back, Tau’s smile faded from being unable to stop him.

Lightning bolts surrounded the vicinity, seemingly moving along with him. A silhouette shrouded in darkness approached him, unnerving in an enchanting way.

“Vaylin…”
