I am of middle eastern descent, that being said I just mean that I have felt the full force of discrimination like anyone of colour could. But I don't know how I feel about being aggressively against white people... I understand that we get discriminated against all the time and its almost like an eye for an eye.. But don't you think that an eye for an eye makes the world go blind? Just asking..

Avatar
  1. i don’t give a fuck how you feel
  2. who is being aggressively against white people? You acting like we going in and colonizing Europe and enslaving them and making them hate themselves or we’re taking all their resources at their expense and then leaving them to fend for themselves as 3rd world countries and then blaming them for the state that they’re in
  3. On that note, this isn’t an eye for an eye because we are doing a single thing to white people that can be equated to what has been done to us.
  4. That eye for an eye defense is just a way to keep the oppressed passive and dormant because while oppressors say that they continue doing the oppressing, they don’t change their actions, they don’t try to dismantle any of the systems that they benefit from everyday.

Black Person: I have been followed in stores, called a nigger, stopped and frisked...
Latino/a: I have been told to "go back to my own country", harassed for speaking Spanish, called a wetback...
Asian: I have been called "ching-chong", had people call me submissive, ask me to help them with their tests...
Native-American: Lots of rape against native women, cultural appropriation for days, told I am getting free stuff from the government
White person: One time, a black person called me a cracker. It hurt my feels a lot. Why can't we all just move forward and not see color?

Black People hate white people for WHAT THEY DO. White people hate Black People for WHO WE ARE. That’s the difference. That is why Keke is wrong. When we hate, we’re hating the violence done unto to us. When we hate, we’re hating the system that allows for corrupt terrorists to hold more power, over an disenfranchised group. When we hate, we’re hating how our culture is mocked, and dehumanized but is then stolen and sold to us for a fee while being told we’re beneath the very culture we created. When we hate, it’s cause our Blackness is viewed as an inherent difference that is negative, and evil. Black hate is the result of white hatred. Hate Doesn’t Breed More Hate, one hate (white hate) caused and continues to cause violence, and dehumanization against a group of people. The other is logical, and emotional conditioning formed out of centuries, and present day reinforcement of Black oppression. -bitteroreo

Is it racist that a white, 20 year old unarmed kid was shot by a black cop on Monday, Aug 18, 3 days ago and its no where in the news? Oh wait, it happens all the time, its just not newsworthy. Sucks to be white.

Dear Racists: I know you’re going to to be trotting this out in the next few days claiming that this shows how white people are just as badly treated as black people in the US (though, of course, the idea that “it happens all the time” to white people is, of course, a ridiculous and disgusting lie).

But guess what, fuckheads, as usual, you’re wrong as fuck. The reason this tragedy isn’t national news is because, surprise surprise, a similar (ish) shooting of a white teenager by a black cop is being handled by the authorities completely differently! That’s right, you dumbfucks, this officer is being immediately and vigorously investigated, the officer’s name was released, the victim wasn’t denied medical care, nor was his body left on the street for hours. It’s almost like we treat black and white people differently in our justice system! And if you want to argue that the fucking Salt Lake City PD (oh shit, was I able to read about this case in the NATIONAL NEWS?!?!?! ) is racist against white people, you are fucking out of your mind.

So, nice try, you asshole, I know you were salivating over finding a case to compare this to Mike Brown, but, even with this timing, you’re not even fucking close to proving your racist “point.”

This anon’s statement reeks “reverse racism”.

>”Sucks to be white”.

Okay???????????

A good friend of mine told me “reverse racism” is white supremacy backfiring on white people.

This anon should start telling the whites to stop their infatuation with white supremacy.

How does racism against white people not exist?

Avatar

Personal discrimination against white people exists.  But racism is systemic and white supremacy makes for a skewed power imbalance in which white people do not face institutionalized oppression based on their race.

Whenever I see a question like this on the Internet, I tend to see the “racism is systemic” explanation go over people’s heads. I would like to offer an extension of this explanation. I, like many people, was taught in school that racism is either believing your own race to be superior or hating individuals of other races. Using these definitions and not considering historical (or present) context, one can certainly argue that racism goes both ways.

However, context is everything, so let’s consider it. It is true that more and more people have friendships or otherwise positive relationships with people of different races. For this reason, I think that, when many white people hear someone accuse their actions as being racist, they think, “That’s ridiculous, how can I hate my friends?” Further, compared to earlier times, it is becoming rarer for people to publicly announce that they hate someone of a particular race or that they think their own race is superior. If you were to consider this and only this, you might come to the conclusion that there’s no more racism or that it’s on its way out.

But if there’s no racism, why are people with whose names imply that they are white (e.g. Steve Jones) more likely to be called back for job interviews than people whose names imply that they are POC (e.g. Tahani Tompkins), even when they have similar credentials? x x

Why are white people less likely to see films where the majority of the cast consists of black people or other POC? x

Why are all-white juries more likely to convict black defendants to jail time than to convict white defendants, even when they’ve committed similar crimes? x

Why are black people twice as likely as white people to be born prematurely or with a low birthrate, even when controlling for education and socioeconomic class? x

Why are any of the phenomena described in these charts taking place? x

These are just a few examples of modern-day racism. If racism against white people existed, that would mean that people of color would have sufficient control of institutions like the media, the school and university systems, the medical systems, and the government to oppress white people. We do not have that power. White people do. Even if they truly don’t hate or see themselves as superior to POCs, white people as a group have benefits that POCs as a group do not have.

Apparently when you talk about how a system is built for White people , by white people, at the expense of non-white people you’re a racist. Lol

Just another ridiculous derailment tactic used to avoid taking accountability for racism. Yall know Black people can’t be racist and even if we hated whites it wouldn’t really matter because black people are not out here oppressing whites. You know killing white children for stepping on our driveway, denying jobs, locking white men up at alarming rates, sucking the resources out of Europe as we speak, Promoting negative white image all over the media, teaching lies to white children about their real history. Yeah all that…

Personally I’m done explaining to people that I don’t hate Whites. If that is what you’re going to be labeled for waking ppl up, not accepting being a second class human, and not supporting white supremacy then so be it, Goddamnit! *Paul Mooney Voice*

White people and Negropeans if you spend less time “screaming reverse racism” and more time educating yourself on what racism really is your blood pressure would go down.

White people get so angry at the phrase, “You cannot be racist towards white people.” I will never understand why. Why are you so angry that you are being treated as actual human beings? You are not reduced to caricatures, but portrayed as characters. You are treated fairly, judged not by your skin tone, but by the ways that you carry yourselves, by your actions. Why do you want to experience racism so badly? It is not fun to be mocked, dehumanized, attacked, killed, incarcerated simply for daring to exist. It is not fun to know nothing of your history or family because it was torn apart, whether through distance or death. It is not fun to hear, at every turn, comments reminding you of your lesser status as humans. Do you really want to turn on the tv, open a magazine, watch a movie, play a video game, and not see yourself? Or, even better, to only see yourself as a criminal, as a drunk, a mocking stereotype, or as someone to be killed off? Or would you rather see fleshed out, well-written characters with lives and personalities and feelings? I know which I’d rather pick. If I were a white person, the phrase, “You cannot be racist towards white people,” would be the best thing I could ever hear.

No "white tears" from me, I acknowledge the suffering of people of colour, but how is singling out and despising a race for their skin colour going to help at all? Fighting fire with fire never works, and fighting racism with racism will only adequate to more racism. Culminating hate only makes you another supremacist. How will this help?

we don’t hate white people based on their skin color. we dislike their actions and call them out based on that. if they’re doing something that is offensive to a culture/race/religion, we’ll call them out. and you can’t be racist towards white people. white people are a privileged race.. just because we call them out on their dumbass actions or say some words to them over the internet doesn’t equate it to racism/oppression, especially not the same as what POC have to face by white people.

and white people actually judge us on our natural appearances like our skin colors, calling us ugly and stereotyping us because we may be darker colored or have different hair, etc. we judge white people on their actions such forming “dreadlocks”, wearing bindis or headdresses, etc. which is obviously offensive to POC and certain cultures.and if we’re ever polite, they don’t listen to us; instead white people take it to their advantage, find stupid arguments and completely disregard the fact that they are being racists and offensive.

"Culminating hate only makes you another supremacist". This logic is objectively flawed. They are calling out white people for being culture-thieves. That is not supremacy. They are not "oppressing" these racists. They are not altering their lives, and they are not marginalizing them in any way. Especially considering that marginalizing white people is impossible. It’s always white people saying "fighting fire with fire" never works. All people are doing is calling out your people’s problematic behavior and your privilege on this planet. Shining a light on something that became evident when your imperialistic ancestors dragged mine to this country is justice, not racism. I love how white folk always feel so “singled out” just for being called out on their actions. Acknowledge that your people have a fucked up history and come to terms with it. Only then will all of this shit move forward. Nobody cares if your feelings are hurt by being reminded of what your ancestors did. Telling people they hurt my feelings by calling me a nigger, scratching racial slurs into my car, and stomping my face didn’t get white people to stop doing it to me. I don’t know why you think whining with some half-baked bullshit logic would get their blog to stop. Unbe-fucking-lievable arrogance. Centuries of oppression and everything’s honky dory. Feel a little heat on fucking tumblr and you people always want to cry racist.

Do you seriously think racism against whites doesn't exist, or is that just a joke? Are you ignoring all the Jews, Russians, Italians, Irish, etc., that have been shat upon by others in past centuries?

Avatar

Not all Jews identify with being White, and many consider themselves to be people of color, so not helping yourself there. On top of that, I can almost guarantee the struggles of the peoples listed above were cause by other White peopleand were most likely do to ethnocentrism, not racism. Racism would imply that White people in general have been oppressed by non-White groups, which they have not in the history of ever. Sooooo yeah, we’re saying racism against White people does and and has not ever existed.

Sure. Y’all can face prejudice, discrimination, and even stereotyping, but it’s a fact that those things do not happen to White people in general on a large scale.

Discussions about racism should be all-inclusive and open to people of all skin colors. However, to put it simply, sometimes White people lack the experience or education that can provide a rudimentary foundation from which a productive conversation can be built. This is not necessarily the fault of the individual, but pervasive myths and misinformation have dominated mainstream racial discourse and often times, the important issues are never highlighted. For that reason, The Frisky has decided to publish this handy list that has some basic rules and information to better prepare anyone for a worthwhile discussion about racism.
1. It is uncomfortable to talk about racism. It is more uncomfortable to live it.

2. “Colorblindness” is a cop-out. The statements “but I don’t see color” or “I never care about color” do not help to build a case against systemic racism. Try being the only White person in an environment. You willnotice color then.

3. Oprah’s success does not mean the end of racism. The singular success of a Black man or woman (i.e. Oprah, or Tiger Woods, or President Obama) is never a valid argument against the existence of racism. By this logic, the success of Frederick Douglas or Amanda America Dickson during the 19th century would be grounds for disproving slavery.

4. Reverse racism is BS, but prejudice is not. Until people of color colonize, dominate and enslave the populations of the planet in the name of “superiority,” create standards of beauty based on their own colored definition, enact a system where only people of color benefit on a large-scale, and finally pretend like said system no longer exists, there is no such thing as reverse racism. Prejudice is in all of us, but prejudice employed as a governing structure is something different.

5. America has not “gotten over” its race-related problems. In American History class you learned about slavery and Jim Crow, but sadly you were taught that figures like Martin Luther King Jr. and Rosa Parks eradicated an entire 200-year history of oppression, discrimination and segregation. Your history teachers and books tried close the race chapter on a high note, however the ongoing history of America’s systemic racism cannot be simply wrapped up and decorated with a “now we all are equal” bow.

6. Google is your best friend. Search: Black/White wealth gap, redlining, “White flight,” subprime mortgages and black families,  discriminatory sentencing practices, occupational overcrowding, workplace discrimination, employment discrimination, mandatory minimum sentences and in-school segregation to start. Here are some highlights:

7. Then read some more. Google: Black Wall Street, Sundown towns, eugenics and forced sterilization, and Black voting prohibition.

8. Buy and read a book from a Black author. Some recommendations: W.E.B Dubois, James Baldwin, Frederick Douglass, Maya Angelou, Toni Morrison, Ralph Ellison, Alice Walker and Zora Neale Hurston would be a great start.

9. Realize that segregation is still rampant. Step outside and take a look around your neighborhood. Lacking people of color much? That is called segregation. It is not by chance, though sometimes by choice. (Refer to “redlining” Google search.)

  • About your neighborhood again: Displacing people of color much? That is called gentrification.
  • Think about the schools you went to and the classes you had. Not too many minorities in either? (Refer to school segregation/in-school segregation.)

10. Programs or initiatives that target systemic racism are not “charity.” We do not refer to the 200 years of free labor provided by enslaved Blacks as charity. Or the Black property stolen by Whites during the decades of state-supported terrorism? Or, say, the unfair banking practices that have completely decimated the Black middle class through foreclosures (refer to subprime mortgages and Black families google search)?

11. Black on Black crime does not exist. There are countless White people committing crimes against White people, but “White-on-White crime” is strangely absent from the rhetoric reporting everything from elementary school shootings to world wars. Why should crimes committed by and against people of color be labelled any differently?

12. White people will not become the minority in America in the next 20 years. “Whites” were originally Anglo-Saxon Protestants (WASPs). The definition of “White,” as a racial classification, has evolved to include “Whiter-skinned” minority groups who were historically discriminated against, barred from “Whiteness” and thus had little access to opportunity. Some examples: Italians and the Irish (who were frequently referred to as n***ers in the 1800’s), Jewish people and more recently Hispanic (George Zimmerman) and Armenian minority groups. Such evolutions, however, always exclude Blacks.

13. Hip-hop culture is no more dysfunctional than Wall Street culture. At its worst, commercial “Black culture” is a raw reflection of broader society. The caricatured imagery of drugs, money, and women are headlined most prominently by Wall Street, politicians, and media moguls but this reality never comes to reflect on White people. America spends more on weaponry than the most of the rest of the world combined but somehow it is the “violence” of hip-hop that is an exclusive pathology.

14. Black people are angry about racism, and they have every right to be. Anger is a legitimate and justified response to years of injustice and invisibility.

15. There are poor White people, but racism and discrimination still exists. The plight of the poor White midwest always makes a convenient appearance to deflect any perceived accusation of privilege or to derail conversations of racism. Racist American policy was never about securing the success of all White people, but rather about legalizing the disenfranchisement of Blacks and other people of color.

16. Silence does nothing. Blank stares and silence do not further this difficult but necessary conversation.

17. White guilt is worthless, but White action isn’t. One of the most immediate responses to racial discourse is that the effort is all about making White people feel guilty. Discourse about racism is not meant to stir up feelings of guilt, it is meant to drive people to action against injustice. During the times of slavery and the era of the Civil Rights Movement, both Black and White people played and continue to play instrumental roles in Black advancement.

18. Black people are not obligated to answer the “Well, what do we do about it?” question. Though many of us do and are not heard. The call for reparations in the form of “Baby Bonds”  is a great idea. So isdesegregating our classrooms  and closing the school-to-prison pipeline. These courageous voices are speaking very loudly — it is time to start listening.
