or: it is true & we should be talking about but it’s presented so disengenously & outrageously that it reads as false & no one will take it seriously esp bc you never link to sources

Good News of 2017
The administration’s claims about crowd size at the inauguration are a pure distraction. In the past 24 hours, Trump signed executive orders aimed at the ACA and installing his cabinet, deleted the pages related to LGBT rights, national AIDS policy, and climate change from the white house website, and all foreign ambassadors have been fired. Throwing up obvious lies about numbers and yelling at the press is just an attempt to make people focus on those lies instead of the real things they are currently doing.
Folks, this is a pattern. This is what he *does*. It’s his Thing. Whenever he starts up something particularly outrageous on social media, look for the legal/political shenanigans for which he’s using the social media circus as a cover.
If you feel he is altering the news - and he is - go global, get your news from international sites - The Guardian (uk) the BBC (uk) Al Jazeera, Reuters all of them have nothing to lose by going hard for him, so they do
The Guardian is running with the gag order, and leaving the transpacific partnership
The BBC is listing everything he’s doing by executive order
Reuters is talking about the lawsuit about conflicts of interest
and Al Jazeera is go with how the pope thinks he’s like Hitler
if you can’t trust the news in your own country - go international - they don’t have the same pressures and are just as accessible on the internet
The Overton Window and the forgiveness narrative run amuck
No matter how racist they’ve been to BLACK people, there’s a constant desire on the left to sing Kumbaya with even the worst conservatives. And that’s why Republicans rarely see a need for any meaningful, long term changes. Why bother when “liberals” will give them accolades and instant absolution for bare minimum effort?
Meanwhile, people like Rev. Jeremiah Wright have been silenced and all but erased. No second chances for black people who simply tell the truth about white culture, right?
Message received loud and clear: Always forgive white people; and a “kind” white racist is far more preferable to America than a “mean” black person who refuses to prioritize white feelings over black lives.
Samantha Bee and Trevor Noah are WRONG. They’re normalizing racists and sliding the Overton window further and further to the extreme right.
This isn’t about hearing both sides. That’s a trope conservatives have learned to use to their advantage, and weak liberals have adopted their narrative. Guess what? We don’t need to hear the racist’s side again. We’ve been hearing their side since birth. Their side is the whitewashed history that’s taught in our schools, our history books, and permeates our pop culture. Giving endless second chances to “nice” racists and lending them a national platform only helps racists, not their constant targets: Black people.
BREAKING NEWS CONSUMER’S HANDBOOK
from NPR’s On the Media (source & full article)
1. In the immediate aftermath, news outlets will get it wrong.
2. Don’t trust anonymous sources.
3. Don’t trust stories that cite another news outlet as the source of the information.
4. There’s almost never a second shooter.
5. Pay attention to the language the media uses.
- “We are receiving reports” - sources are claiming something has happened, but it has not been confirmed.
- “We are seeking confirmation” - the news outlet is confident, but still can’t confirm.
- “We can confirm” - information has come from multiple sources, and the news outlet feels confident that it can claim something as an actual fact.
- “We have learned” - how a news outlet declares it has a scoop. As Andy Carvin says “on the one hand, it could mean that they’re the first ones to confirm something. Or they’re going out on a limb and reporting something that no one else has felt comfortable reporting yet.”
6. Look for news outlets close to the incident.
7. Compare multiple sources.
8. Big news brings out the fakers. And Photoshoppers.
9. Beware reflexive retweeting. Some of this is on you.
For years, most victims of revenge porn — people who have had their nude photos shared online without permission — basically couldn’t do anything about it.
According to one study, over 50% of all adults engage in sexting, and 70% admit to having received a nude photo online or over the phone.
And yet, despite the fact that we all (or at least more than half of us) do it, there’s still this weird, persistent, harmful notion that if your naked pictures get leaked or shared maliciously by an ex online, it’s your fault for taking them in the first place.
It’s completely backward, but sadly, the law seems to at least kind of agree.
As of September 2014, New Republic found, putting someone else’s illicit photos online without their consent was illegal in just 16 states, though laws have been proposed in more states. Not only is it typically impossible to prosecute the perpetrator, they note, it’s impossible to legally compel websites to take the images taken down most of the time.
Here’s how to report a non-consensual image posting on Bing.
And here’s how to do it on Google.

He was killed during a shooting when he jumped on top of three women in an attempt to to save them from the gunfire.
Each of the women survived.
Zavion was only 15.
He is an example of a true hero, the hero of the XXI century, who doesn’t wear a cloak and red underpants, and turns up to be a usual human. By his example he showed that black guys are able to perform valiant deeds, and they actually DO perform them. But, unhappily, they appear in media only as murderers, drug dealers or victims of police outrage. I’m very sorry that he had to pay his life for it. All what I can do is to memorize him, and I wish he has a better life in heaven. #Love it!
“Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” - John 15:13
As some of y’all may be aware, there are horrible things going on in the world today.
All in just today, these have happened.
- There was a 7.0 earthquake in Japan.
- There’s a tsunami warning in parts of Japan because of it, too.
- There was an earthquake in Mexico.
- In Beirut, there were 2 suicide bombings and they killed 40+ people.
- In Baghdad, there was a funeral that was bombed and at least 19 people were killed.
- In Germany, there were 8 dead babies found in a flat.
- There was a Ukrainian helicopter that crashed in Slovakia, and it killed 6 people.
- In Paris, there was 1 bomb (that was assumed to have been a suicide blast).
- In Paris, there were also 5 other explosions.
- In Paris, there have been many shootings.
- In Paris, over 60 people have been taken hostage.
- In Paris, there are still uncaught gunmen.
- In Paris, with all of what has happened, there have been at least 160 deaths, and the number keeps increasing.
- In Missouri, 3 men were charged with confirmed terrorist threats.
- Donald Trump said things against Ben Carson (but that’s politics, folks). But he crossed a line when he started comparing Ben Carson to a child molester (need I explain why we shouldn’t compare people to things such as a child molester, and how that normalizes such behavior- not only joking but literally, too?).
- A guy on Twitter started making threats to kill children and Jews, and defied a judge’s orders to stop.
- Because of the terrorist attacks in Paris, different locations and cities in Washington D.C., New York, and Massachusetts have upped the amount of police on duty, and the LAPD has, too.
- On the Marist campus, there was a lockdown because of a threat a 16-year-old boy made.
- The German football team revealed that just hours before the terrorist attacks in Paris, they had to evacuate the hotel they were staying in, in Paris, because of a bomb threat.
- *EDIT* Cities with terrorist warnings: New York City, Washington D.C., Los Angeles, Chicago, Detroit, Dallas, Atlanta, Miami, Las Vegas, London, Rome, and Toronto.
- *EDIT* On top of all of this, Islamophobes have started attacking Muslims. Please know that most Muslims do not agree with ISIS and are not part of it. Do not send hate to Muslims. Do not blame the acts of ISIS on those who partake in Islamic practices. ISIS ≠ Muslim.
With all that has been going on in the world- TODAY ALONE- it is quite scary.
So please, if you’re someone who prays, pray for the people that have been harmed, killed, maimed, threatened, physically or mentally hurt, or have feared for their life.
And no matter what you believe in, PLEASE find websites to make donations to and organizations to help these people in need.
If anyone has any links to make donations, knows anyone that has truly been affected by any of these things (if you’d like to share a link that they’d be fine with having shared, so that people can send them love, that would be great), or knows of any phone numbers to help the people that are in these crises because of any of these things, please reblog this and comment them.
I want as many people to feel safe and loved as possible. Anyone who has been threatened by these things or knows somebody going through any of these things, or whatever else, I want you to know that I (along with so many others) am here for you. My blog is a safe and hate-free zone. Please be careful!!
In one day
Paris- Terrorist Attacks Japan- Earthquake Baghdad- Funeral Bombed Beirut- Suicide Bombing Mexico- Earthquake
WTF IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE
For those who havent heard yet: Paris Hilton was pranked into thinking her plane was crashing and that she was going to fucking die. If you ask me ‘prank’ is the wrong fucking vocab here. This is a forced near death experience with potential emotional trauma following. Yet she has to laugh it off as a public person / selfmade brand/entrepreneur. This shit can scar you for life. I wouldve fucking lost it.
If you ever think about pulling of this kind of horribly disgusting bullshit, do us all a favor and reevaluate the choices you make in life. Grow the fuck up.
This is disgusting.
What happened to pranks being little shit like forks in someone’s lawn? Now y'all trying kill people.
3 Killed In Shooting Near University Of North Carolina At Chapel Hill The three victims were reportedly identified as Deah Shaddy Barakat, 23, Yusor Mohammad, 21, and Razan Mohammad Abu-Salha, 19.
American media didn’t consider giving a decent report about them simply because they aren’t Charlie Hebdo.
Once more TERRORISM HAS NO RELIGION!
REBLOG SO THE WHOLE WORLD COULD KNOW!!!
#CHAPELHILLSHOOTING
Qian Hongyan was just four when she lost both her legs. A speeding trucker left her for dead as she crossed the main road in her village of Zhuangshang in southern China.
For nearly two years Qian was immobile as she didn’t even have enough of her body left to sit up in a wheelchair. Doctors said her only hope of being able to move by herself again would be extensive surgery to allow her to be fitted with prosthetic limbs. Her parents couldn’t afford this treatment.
Qian’s granddad Yuan came up with a simple but effective treatment to get her moving again. He took a basketball the village boys had discarded and cut a hole just big enough for tiny Qian to fit into, padded the inside with stiff floor mats from his car, then propped her up inside. All of a sudden Qian was able to stabilize herself and was able to by move herself by rolling the ball in any direction she wanted. She supported herself using wooden handles.
From that day on Qian would not be stopped by any obstacle. She went back to school, started to play with her friends again, and started to get back the life of any girl her age. She began professional swimming training in 2007 and defied the odds of her double amputation to become one of the first members of the Yunnan Youth Swimming Club.
She won three gold medals in last year’s Yunnan Para Games and took a gold and two silver medals at the National Swimming Championship for the Disabled (Under 18) in 2009 before continuing impressively at this year’s Para Games.
I should have added this in the original post but after attention in the Chinese press, Qian traveled to Beijing to receive free artificial limbs at the China Rehabilitation Research Center, a center that has been providing help to the disabled in China for over 20 years. At 18 years old she is ready for her full adult prosthetics.
This is so important.
this is so precious
Without question, black people dominated news coverage this year, but often not for reasons many would celebrate.
As America witnessed the killings of unarmed black people by police, the reality of a broken justice system, the perpetuation of various anti-black stereotypes and racism rearing its head within many major institutions, the country had no choice but to face its racial demons head-on.
Here are but a few of the many moments when the country failed its black citizens in 2014.
Since the shooting of New York City police officers Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu on Saturday, a flurry of news reports hit the Internet. But there’s one big part of the crime that’s being left out of reports: Before the shooter killed the cops in their patrol car, he shot his ex-girlfriend.
