An African American and a white girl study a sign in the integrated Long Island community of Lakeview, New York, on April 1962. It reads “Negroes! This community could become another ghetto. You owe it to your ‘family’ to buy in another community.” The sign was an attempt to keep African Americans from exceeding the number of whites who want to live in an integrated town. (AP Photo)

A black man rides a bus restricted to whites only, in Durban. In an act of resistance to South Africa’s apartheid policies, 1986.

look at their faces. upset that this black man dared to exist in their space

It’s sad how terrified he looks.

the fear in his eyes man :/

not even “their space”. Europeans invaded South Africa, separated Black people from their own country and dared to be aghast at their want to considered humans. This was just 28 years ago, guys!!

March 25th marks the International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade.

It’s estimated that over 12.5 million men, women and children were forcibly transported over a period of four centuries as part of the Transatlantic Slave Trade.

Those who survived the journey across the Middle Passage awaited a harsh reality of backbreaking labor in the New World.
