Lonely is a word that people fear in their life.
Having no one around and no one to talk to.
But, what is wrong with being alone?
Why do we fear the silence and calm
that comes from being by yourself?
We need to take the chance to look
deep into our soul and conscious.
Without the distraction of the world around,
you can learn a whole lot about you.
This is an opportunity to get in touch
with your higher self and what they need
you to learn from them.
There’s no fear in being alone.
You are your own best friend,
the one who knows you the best in life.
You should be your first and last love.
Why not spend quality time with you?
Center yourself around the values and ideas
that you hold true to your heart or soul.
Treat yourself like a friend and give
yourself the attention you crave and need.
Your higher self will teach you that you
don’t need to be on the move constantly.
Sometimes, it’s best to not move and
interact with anyone around you.
When it’s time to emerge back into
the present, and join society.
You’ll be prepared for anything and
phased by nothing,
that this world can throw at you.

🌙I’m curious, how have you lovely creatures grown or deepened your magickal practice since you’ve begun?
@atiredwitch and I talk about this on this week’s episode of @coffeeandcauldronspod. About how it is so incredibly easy to get stuck feeling like only a beginner in magick, but there is so many amazing ways to build up from those foundations to make something personal & unique to you. Making things personal & unique is actually one of those most important things we go over!
We also talk about working with the minor arcana in your tarot practice, the Leo full moon, and witchy digital note taking.
Hope you give a listen!

Every single year, without fail, we deal with the fact that the internet is obsessed with promoting the misinformation that Ostara must have been stolen from Easter.
People will argue until they’re blue in the face…But they won’t provide citations or evidence to the contrary and the reason why is simple: there isn’t any.
If you find that celebrating Ostara brings you joy: we aren’t here to rain on your parade or stop you in the slightest.
But misinformation, even misinformation that sounds cool and serves to further rhetorical goals, is still wrong and harmful.
So, after years of promising it, we’ve finally delivered: Easter isn’t stolen from Ostara.

The darker seasons are upon us, so here are some reminders for my fellow witches:
-society forgets that this is supposed to be a time of rest, make sure that you don’t! Take extra time for rest and sleep.
Here are some Very Good Reasons to take walks in fall and winter:
- take walks in nature to remind yourself of the natural cycles and connect with nature.
-take walks for some of that fresh, cold air. It will cleanse you from your troubles and calm your mind. Try to not listen to music and instead listen to the silence.
- walks are also great to talk to your gods, guides and/or ancestors. Give thanks to them and to nature itself.
- prepare your body and immune system for the winter and gradually get used to the cold by spending time outside.
- the air in a forest or a park is a lot cleaner than that in most public spaces, especially with the germs flying around right now.
- avoid the public transport system by walking whenever its possible for you!
- also, appreciate all of these beautiful colors autumn has to offer! There are a lot of energies to be found in them:
- the birds leave the cold weather and fly towards a climate thats more suited for their needs. Do the same and reevaluate whom and what you give your energies to, and who you share your space with. Leave unhealthy situations behind whenever possible.
-sew or draw sigils in your jackets, scarfs and hats to keep you warm and dry
- the bright lights, songs and consumerism of christmas aren’t natural and can be very draining. Don’t beat yourself up for not being as productive as usual. Few plants grow and bloom during winter.
- ward yourself before visiting christmas markets (or any supermarket, let’s be honest). I like to spray my scarfs with protective sprays, and this can be done with any piece of clothing. But make sure to always let them fully dry, folks!
- I cannot stress this enough, never underestimate self care and rest at this time of year. Remind yourself that nature itself survives winter by going to sleep. Never feel bad for resting.
- evergreens in the home will help you to stay healthy, positive and in touch with nature. It’s great and easy color magic and perfect for closet witches.
- I smoke cleanse most gifts I get. I do nkt need anyones negative energies hafting on things I might put up in my bedroom.
- catch every ray of sunshine you can get, you will need it. If you are prone to seasonal depression, consult with a doctor. For me personally, supplements have helped a great deal :)
-clean your personal space. Your bed, your room, your house. Fall and winter are important times to look within, make sure you have a welcoming space to do somthe state of our home often influences the state of our mind.
- ginger and cinnamon (and often lemon) can be added to most hot drinks and will give you some extra warmth and energy even on the coldest days.
- hot water plus ginger in the morning, with honey in the afternoon and instead with chilies in the evening will do wonders for your immune system!
- if you buy crystals on the christmas market make sure you get what you pay for.
- when you spend time with old friends and family during the festivities, communicate your (new) boundaries clearly and calmly, and do not force yourself to spend time with those who cannot respect them. Your wellness is the most important thing and you should treat it accordingly! Sigils and spells to improve your patience and clear communication can help here.
- if you must spend time around toxic people, cleanse yourself afterwards and remind yourself that people act and speak only for and against themselves and never against you!
- I love you and I wish you a beautiful and holy time. I hope you will rest and find peace this winter so you can have a wonderful start into a new year full of blessings and growth
Wonderful pointers! Thank you!
Your practice evolving is amazing. It is beautiful to evolve. Don't ever be ashamed of that.

Witch Tip Wednesday 2.7.18
The Secrets of the Craft
Now, the title is a bit misleading. This isn’t a post giving you the secret code word to absorb all the power of the universe.
It’s ok to keep parts, or even all of your craft a secret. This may seem hard in our age of sharing and growing acceptance of witchcraft (at least the aesthetic of it), but there is no need to share every experience, spell, or working you’ve done!
Witchcraft is a personal journey. It is the act of embracing your own power, and utilizing different means especially of the natural world, to make change in your life and the world around you.
On top of that, there is not standard witch stamp, or a commerative copy of The Craft that gets sent to you when you come out of the broom closet. Each path is unique, and within that, everyone works differently within that path.
So this week’s tip is “Keep a secret.” Secrets are a witch’s tool. They are a commodity, a badge of honor, a sign of wisdom. Knowledge is and was a very valid form of exchange. Knowledge for goods and services. Wisdom isn’t always giving people the answer when they want it, but the ability to see when it should be given, and until that time comes, it remains a secret.
Secrets are a gift, and a witch always maintains some mystery. Whether that’s a small ingredient that’s left out of a spell that ties it to the witch, or personal seal that lends power to a working. Sharing a secret with someone should be interpreted as a gift and a sign of trust.
This should be noted that, if a witch tells you about a personal spell, sigil, process, experience, it should be met with thanks. Whether or not you decide to use it, keep in mind that by sharing it with you, it is a gift they have given to you. It is an act of trust, an olive branch, and an invitation to exchange ideas and knowledge.
I have been asked for spells on love, luck, hexes, curses, conjuring, banishment and more. And on multiple occasions, I’ve provided and been met with no acknowledgement. Or even things like “thanks, but that doesn’t fit my aesthetic.” I’ve said it before, but it bears with saying again
Witchcraft is not about aesthetics. It is messy, it is burned finger tips, wax on surfaces, gritty salt in shoes. It is bug bites and pain. It’s learning from that pain and doing better next time. It is fear, and happiness. It’s balance and contradictions. Papercuts and action. If you want aesthetics, go to home goods.
So, embracing the fact that you have secrets and choosing to whom you share them is in fact a powerful thing. Your power isn’t dependent on what others think about your craft. And on the other, bejeweled and stained hand, if someone shares a secret with you, enjoy it, and respect it as you would want your secrets handled.
🦇Cheers, Barberwitch
