Europe is currently being burned alive and people still think climate change is a joke. It’s warmer in North Europe than in the middle eastern deserts.

Nearly all northern countries broke their decades old heat records this week.

Its only in the low hundreds in farenheit??? In America we get that for like a month or two straight every year??? Y'all need to deal is it really normally so cold over there that yall can live with a little heat???

If you’re gonna have an ignorant American attitude then please only stay on American posts. No one in North Europe has an AC in their houses. Stores, animal shelters, elderly houses, no one has AC. the houses are designed to keep the heat in. The people are not accustomed to the heat. A sudden climate shift like this is extremely dangerous to older people and babies specifically.

There are programs being run to inform elderly people what to do to not die in this heat. There was a heatwave in the Netherlands in 2010 in which approximately 500 more elderly people passed away than normally.

One thing people don’t often appreciate is that the southern US states are along the same latitude as the Middle Eastern deserts, rather than northern Europe. We’re not competing with Texas, we’re competing with northern Canada. If Saskatoon can’t handle Mexican weather, London can’t handle Middle-Eastern weather. It’s not built for it at all.

And even if their “abnormally high” temperature feels like a normal human amount, it’s still unusual for the region and a direct result of climate change

For my international friends who get upset, angry when a fellow American like myself doesn’t understand at first why it’s such a big thing how hot Europe has been, please remember: most of us literally do not know better by design.

We’re a country of lies, omission, and deception from our founding on up. And our education system is a flawed, deeply broken joke designed by right wing politicians and corporate interests to keep us perpetually ignorant and powerless.

I mean, look at us. We’re spoon-fed this romanticized myth of being “the land of the free” when our origins are colonialism, genocide of the native people, kidnapping and enslaving Africans to do the actual building of the country, and our old rich white guys not wanting to pay their fellow old British white guys.

Ever since 2016 and Trump, we who recognize how awful he and his supporters are have been looking at them and saying “it’s a cult” but the sad truth is, America at large is, too. One we’re born into, and really can’t even see is such unless we’re incredibly fortunate and incredibly open to the truth.

The societal level brainwashing of America being the greatest country on Earth, past, present and future, is literally drilled into us from birth. Our textbooks don’t teach history, but the Divine destiny narrative myth that we’re the annointed best of humanity. I’ve learned more real history in the last few years on Tumblr than I did in 12 years in school.

So don’t take it as so much American arrogance, or willful ignorance when we’re truly ignorant about basic geography like this. Many of us truly don’t know better because that’s how we’re controlled: by keeping us ignorant.

Okay, I agree with the above reblog, but for the record WE AMERICANS KEEP CHOOSING IGNORANCE after witnessing what the truth is of the reality around us and within our own culture. It is becoming willful ignorance. It is becoming willful arrogance. Americans are addicted to a self-destructive mentality and we need to be held accountable for it. Our ignorance is part of the climate crisis and the result have rippled immensely. I know you’re not excusing us with your explanation, but we don’t need to be cut some slack either. Other countries are not obligated to give us sympathy. Our ignorance is no longer a “design”, it’s a goddamn choice at this point. In this technological era, where information flows at our fingertips, circulates constantly, and demands critical thought with self-reflection to sort through the information that is critical to our livelihood, we are not allowed to be excused. Ignorance is lethal. Our government knows this. Our culture knows this. It doesn’t feel good that we’re known as the delusional country, but we dug our graves and we let our political system charge interest for it. Why are we offended? Sorry to come off so aggressively, but please, don’t ask for understanding and compassion for our foolish behavior towards another country/continent’s issues with the climate crisis. I mean, really. The climate crisis is a global issue. American ignorance isn’t helping and frankly, has NEVER HELPED. Period.

I’m not saying send online hate towards other Americans to make them feel accountable. You can’t make others feel a certain way. We need to take the knowledge we have and be progressive. Ignorance is regressive.

Let’s pay attention to updates about the climate crisis. I mean really, PAY ATTENTION.

I want to apologize for the ignorant American comment because knowing our culture, they won’t apologize. Clearly we don’t know geography and think insensitivity and ignorance is an appropriate way to respond to science.

Ugh, it breaks my heart you guys are suffering under this heat and I truly hope you find a way to be cool AND that your work environments are being considerate of the heat and making sure you’re being taken care of. Hopefully, on our end, we’ll be more attentive to the climate change issues and act accordingly. There’s a lot out of our control right now, but I really hope our voices will resound loud enough on a global scale to take care of our home and one another. Of course, we must go beyond hope. We need to do something.

Imagine living in a country that is so grounded that you just DO what needs to be done to help the Earth. No environmental policies are debated. Now arguments about the opposing party’s agenda. You don’t wait for an elected official to take care of it. You’re simply informed that the Earth needs help so you just do what needs to be done. They broke a record with common sense. I love it.
