pine trees and witchcraft

as winter months (and yule festivities) approach, pine becomes an excellent component of green witchcraft. evergreen trees, of course, symbolize immortality and perseverance. they are a great addition to any spell involving resilience or overcoming obstacles.

hanging a pine branch above your door will invite good energies, be it spirits or friends, into your space. placing pine above your bed will ward off illness.

throw pine into the fireplace (or bonfire) to summon protective energy.

pinecones work as a health and fertility charm.

pine is also an excellent smoke cleanser for purifying and warming a space’s energy.

pine trees in general are associated with divine harmony, peace, releasing guilt, and clarity. for this reason, meditation under a pine tree (or with a pine sprig in your hand) can be very healing and beneficial spiritually.

whether you have a pine tree in your home this season, you take a walk among some evergreens, or even just light a pine-scented candle in your bedroom, its wintery magick is wonderful.

Pine is such an excellent plant to use for protection and attracting abundance. It’s one of my favorites.

🌙I’m curious, how have you lovely creatures grown or deepened your magickal practice since you’ve begun?

@atiredwitch and I talk about this on this week’s episode of @coffeeandcauldronspod. About how it is so incredibly easy to get stuck feeling like only a beginner in magick, but there is so many amazing ways to build up from those foundations to make something personal & unique to you. Making things personal & unique is actually one of those most important things we go over!

We also talk about working with the minor arcana in your tarot practice, the Leo full moon, and witchy digital note taking.

Hope you give a listen!

Note:

This is something that I've personally been coming to terms with but I do feel that it is something that affects the community at large and is almost a rite of passage for those embarking on the path. The basic sense is:"

IF IT FUCKING WORKS, THEN IT FUCKING WORKS

If you find that a lemon, chili, glass, and cigarette ash spell to hex your enemy works well, then it works. Don't let the dogmatic cunts on TikTok and whatever fucking else tell you that it's weak. If throwing said enemy in a freezer works better than the lemon for you, then it works.

I find that a few of us fall into the entire vortex of needing to supplement our practices to sort of make them make sense along with others, overcomplicating or changing aspects of it that work because of some other influence - again, the entire lemon hexes are weak bullshit, it works for me. I know it works, I'm not fixing something that isn't broken.

So, the note of this little post:

  • Don't overcomplicate your practice for the sake of making it more standing in the eyes of another.
  • The only thing that should determine what stays and go's in your practice is your personal morality and study.
  • If it works, it works - you did a spell and got your desired result... wasn't that the endgame?

🌙 Pisces Full Moon

✧ 20th September 2021

There is a Pisces Full Moon happening tonight at 28°. One of my personal favourite full moons of the year (not just because I am Pisces myself) because Pisces is one of the most spiritual and psychic sign of the zodiac.

An amazing time for any spells, rituals or divination. Expect heightened psychic abilities, prothetic dreams and possibly feeling more emotional than usual.

Pisces is traditionally ruled by Jupiter and at the time of this full moon, Jupiter is trine Mercury. This brings us overall luck and optimism. Make sure to write your goals and manifestations down or speak them out-loud!

Pisces is very connected to dreams, so I truly recommend writing down any dreams you may have and trying to decipher their deeper meanings.

I wish you all the best✨

Mandrake has been recognised as a powerful plant since ancient times. In Greek mythology, for example, was used by Aphrodite and Circe as aphrodisiac, or in the Argonautica Orphica it was said that mandrake was growing in Hekate’s garden. Dioscoride was the first botanist to describe its usage and its appearance, dividing it into “female” and “male” mandrakes. In medieval times, because of the doctrine of signatures, which claimed that plants which resembled body parts would cure/treat those specific anatomical part, mandrake was believed to have the power to control the whole body: induce love, conception, bring good fortune or wealth. Witches and sorcerer’s used the roots, fruits and leaves to make charms, potions, ointments and other concoctions for their will.

Shadow Aura

My Goddess, Nyx, has really been working on me the past few months. She has introduced me to what true dark magic is, and is starting to bring different elements of darkness to me as well as my Dark Witches.

I have been inspired by @darkfyretheumbrawitch‘s POST on a Mirrored Empath Shield, as well as Konstantinos book Nocturnal Witchcraft teaching me about conjuring darkness in good aspects as well as doing magic in all darkness. I highly recommend both sources on learning about dark magic whether it’s out of curiosity or if you feel like darkness is your path as a spirit worker.

So what is a Shadow Aura? This gif should help in ample ways of how to visualize darkness conjuring around you, but shadow/darkness silences and blinds our targets. No, I’m not here to give you any ideas on another hex, but you can get creative but this is something more of teaching how to protect ourselves at all times.

For those who want to completely silence other’s emotions or thoughts, you have to silence those around you so you won’t be affected from it. Visualize dark, smokey energy flowing around you as you’re building this aura. Once you are done with your visualization and feel that this energy is around you, anyone that comes near your radius, is silenced and blinded. You may start to notice confusion, of those who seem like they can’t get their thoughts together. They may even forget what they’re looking for or can’t seem to find what they’re seeking (as they’re blinded and silenced). This is a zone of your protection. This is not good or bad magic, due to how the witch chooses to use this ability against others. If you’re very sensitive with energy like myself, then think of this as a room with no cell service to your phone. No harm is being done to your phone, but there is no absolute way to use it until you leave that dead zone. This Shadow Aura is the same thing and in this situation you’re not the phone, but you’re the room providing that dead zone of silence and blearing.

This ability silences the mind and eyes to where you aren’t affected by anyone or they’re energy at all, because you temporarily faltered their senses. Let me know how this form of magic works for you, I love to hear your experiences!

Using water in spellwork according to Traditional witchcraft and folk Magick (not wicca or modern witchcraft; these uses will be different):

+Well Water: healing and self care elixirs and potions

*note: to collect this water you must first make a shrine to honor the Guardian of that well facing North or West. This should be done on a full moon and you should leave an offering there or outside somewhere every full moon if you intend to use it for healing. The night you make your shrine you should take your vessel for creating these healing potions (usually your tea pot) and soak the entire vessel in water from the well in a bowl out in the moon light. Then let it air dry and you can use it from then on. Every full moon you should at least pour some drinkable water near or on the shrine as a thank you and rinse your vessel in water from your well (aka the sink in most places that have one).

+Snow Water: working with death and the changing seasons, to bring drastic and destructive change, to imbue someone or a place with a deep cold

*note: collect in any bowl during snow fall (do not pick up snow to use) and let the water sit and freeze overnight and thaw in the morning.

+Dew Water: collected from baneful plants it can be used in curses and hexes, collected from trees like oak trees used for protection and strength related spellwork

*note: use gloves when collecting from baneful plants and don't ingest it. Use the water quickly before it evaporates.

+Tap Water: water from the tap comes from a specific source in your city so this water can be used to connect with the Water Guardian deity of that water source and used for healing people and nature of the area

*note: the shrine mentioned in the well water portion is advisable here as well, although not required.

+Storm Water: torrential downpour storm water holds the energy of the storm itself and can be used in destructive magick and connecting with storm or weather deities, to bring chaos and disruption to someone's life, if a lightning storm the water can hold the energy to destroy life or property

*collect in anything but I don't suggest drinking it. I have collected it many times and it always looks pretty iffy to ingest.

+Moon Water: connect with moon related deities, healing feminine physical and emotional issues (please note I mean feminine sides of oneself not an exclusionary female gender only concept; although this water specifically heals physical female issues as well), adding the spirit of the water to spells for adding potency, as a base for alchemical works or making sacred waters, as a base for creating Hallowed Water, for space and altar cleansings in lieu of smoke, add to ritual baths for potency

*note: moon water is collected in a sacred vessel attached to the end of a long wooden pole or staff. Then this vessel is dipped and raked across the reflection of the moon in another body of water (ponds, pools, rivers, etc). This is done 9 times from each of the Four Quarters after calling them and their Guardians to the rite. Then the staff with the water is left outside where it will consistently have the moon's light on it for at least 3 hours. Do this on the Full Moon for the full 3 days of the moon's cycle. Moon water in a jar in the window sill is a wiccan or modern witch concept.

+War Water: Hallowed Moon water that has rusted nails, metal shards, screws, etc added to it. It must sit for at least one full year to potency. After that year the water is ready to use and can be added to and the metal pieces are left inside. This can be used to break small hexes and curses or to remove curses and imprints from previously owned items.

+Saining Water: use to intensely cleanse a space and remove unwanted spirits or imprints from a home. The recipes vary but utilize well water, moon water, jalapeno water (cut up fresh jalapeno and let sit in a jar of half water half white vinegar or vodka for a full moon cycle), frankincense oil, clove oil, 9 bay leaf ashes, charcoal from a funerary fire, various bones of your choosing, and a splash of War Water. These recipes are usually very personal and aren't shared past these basic ingredients.

+Rain Water: collected during rain that is gentle with little wind and may still have the sun peeking out and creating a soft golden glow. This water is used for bringing peace of mind or peace to a location. Can also be used in rituals involving water-oriented deities.

Magical Names 🔮

What is a Magical Name: A magical name, (AKA a witch name or a craft name) is name chosen or given that a witch to use in their craft. It may be used in a coven, with deities and other entities, or in the ritual setting.

Obtaining a Magical Name: A magical name can be chosen by the witch who will use it, given to them by an entity, or given to them by another witch. Some people may receive a magical name upon initiation if that is their path.

When to Use a Magical Name: The name is used in the craft. Perhaps you use it when performing a spell or a ritual, or you use it when communicating with entities. Some people use their magical name when talking with other witches to hide their identity if it is not safe for them to be open about their practice.

Can You Have More Than One Magical Name?: Yes! You may have a name you use in spellwork, one that a deity has given you, one to talk with other witches, or any other situation. Remember: your craft is your own. However it’s definitely easier to only have one though, and best not to give yourself too many random names.

Finding Your Magickal Name: Here are some questions to get you thinking of name ideas that resonate with you.

~ What’s your favorite animal?

~ When is your birthday? Do you know your Celtic birth month if you are Celtic? Your sun sign? Your Chinese zodiac animal if you are Chinese? What’s your birth stone?

~ What’s your favorite part of nature? Favorite tree? Flower? Crystal? Element?

~ Where were your ancestors from? My family was from the Isle of Skye, and I chose for my name to by Skye because of that.

~ Use baby name websites and look for names with meanings that correspond with you or with something you want in your life (Ex: a name meaning luck, or happiness, or powerful).

~ Sun or moon? Day or Night?

~ Is there a person in mythology or history you look up to?

Remember: YOU DO NOT NEED A MAGICAL NAME. IT IS OPTIONAL. Do not feel any pressure to choose one. Maybe one will come to you in a year, or five, or ten, or maybe never. If you don’t want one, you don’t need one!
