Alice Wu-Gulliver Appreciation Post
On TikTok I heard the various edited versions of the Ballad (cover version), the ones focusing on each character's vocals.
Aubrey's one? Killed me.
THEN someone on Twitter posted a version with just Agatha and Rio's vocals and my shriveled heart can't take it.
Executive producer Mary Livanos admitting Kathryn and Aubrey had to do multiple takes of their kiss scene.
I just saw the interview podcast thing about the executive producer having to turn down/off her headphones because Aubrey and Kathryn were full fledged making out on set and WHAT DID I TELL YALL
THE ONLY REASON they dont have no interviews together is because they are being kept SEPARATE
AUBREY PLAZA as RIO VIDAL/LADY DEATH in Agatha All Along (2024)
What do you mean you had an original scene where Agatha asked Rio to retire her current form, only for Rio to remind Agatha that this was who she fell in love with and decided to instead go with "I don't want to see your face"?
The former is literally SO much better and so much more in line with the characterization that we saw throughout the show, of Agatha being unable to help herself from loving Rio, but also being reminded of Nicholas every time she sees her. It would make SO much sense for her to ask Rio to retire her current form, to present as something different to make it easier for them to potentially move forward.
And for Rio to actually acknowledge the fact that Agatha fell in love with this Rio, to acknowledge that deep history instead of just screaming manically at her from a rooftop "why don't you love me"?
100x better.
I really want to know the thought process behind the switch, because something so small could have completely changed the entire tone of the finale
After that finale, I am deceased. You will find me horizontal, in a grave.
But for real, I have mixed feelings about the finale. Let's start with what I liked.
I LOVED everything about the morgue trial. We got a beautiful resolution to Jen's story and her character arc. I loved that Agatha chose to help Billy find his brother after all.
I balled my eyes out at Agatha saying "sometimes boys die." So heartbreaking, but so necessary for her to realize. For her to finally realize after all these centuries was beautiful. And the scene with the dandelion seed, and her realizing there death is a nature cycle of life and decay was perfect. It felt like a beautiful, natural conclusion and realization that the show was setting up. That death and grief are HARD, but you can move on from it and find beauty and comfort in it.
I actually loved that the Agatha x Rio kiss we got was the kiss of death. It felt hauntingly beautiful and heartbreaking all at once. Of course these two were never going to have a happy ending. They were doomed from the start. But it doesn't make it any less meaningful. I loved that Agatha gave herself up to Death in the end. It seemed like she finally let go of her grief and anger.
I even liked all the Billy parts. I loved seeing him in full costume, and him willingly giving Agatha some of his power. I love that for once she didn't take it all. She let herself take just enough, and Billy survived.
What I didn't like is that they made Agatha a ghost, unwilling to move on and finally see Nicky. I felt like that undid a lot of her character growth, and minimized the importance of the morgue scene and her death scene.
I can get past that if we see her grow as a character in future marvel projects, though. But for now, I didn't feel like it did her character justice.
I was also disappointed we didn't get any Rio and Agatha backstory, other than her allowing her son more time when he should have been stillborn. I loved that we got to see how much Agatha loved Nicky, and how the legend of a road stemmed from both her love and her grief. But with all the set up of the Agatha and Rio relationship in the story so far, their interactions in the last two episodes felt hollow without more to back it up.
I wasn't expecting a lot, of course. There's only so much you can show. But even if they showed a short montage of moments they had together in history, it would have been more justified and fulfilling.
I'm heartbroken for Rio. She bent the rules despite herself for the one person she ever loved, trying to give her a gift of more time with her son, only for Agatha to turn around and blame her for everything in the end. I'm not mad about that choice, but it's heartbreaking nonetheless.

this is a completely normal bro reaction i don't know what you're talking about
Dean was always the protector. Since age of 4. He felt it was his job. His responsibility. He felt the whole world was on his shoulders. And then Cas came into his life and was like: I'll protect you. And I want nothing in return. Because you, Dean Winchester, are my whole world.
