This turtle is in hell and all you can think about is cum
The thing is, I was a young sex worker. I was 18 years old, I lived alone, I had no friends in the city. I was in so much more danger than I realised at the time.
But if I had actually been able to talk to people, if I hadn’t been hiding it from anyone and everyone I might have been able to have support. It sure would have been safer.
But the stigma against sex work, the lack of support, the social disgust it evokes kept me quiet. That was ten years ago, I had no social media, no real way to connect with people and get advice.
The “I can’t support sex workers because exploitation” rhetoric puts people in danger. Actual danger. Never forget that.
Miss Andry, I am so sorry that you went through that alone.
And for folks who can’t support sex workers bc exploitation (and I myself am mightily concerned about exploitation in this area, so):
- Concern about exploitation in sex work should be focused on concern about sex workers.
- Do not shut out marginalized people. They are the ones who need your support the most.
- Listen to marginalized people, including sex workers (and former sex workers sharing their knowledge). Listening is where genuine support of marginalized people begins.
Interview with the amazing Ahi Wi-hongi, an indigenous transgender sex worker about the sex work laws in NZ. The comic was first published in Voima Magazine, as a part of the FEMSKT -collectives page commenting the “Swedish Model” that currently affects the lives of sex workers in Finland and many other countries.
More info in Finnish from the Pro-tukipiste site.
Am thinking of drawing a second page, or a title, or something, but let’s see. Will keep you posted ;)
