"I tell my students, ‘When you get these jobs that you have been so brilliantly trained for, just remember that your real job is that if you are free, you need to free somebody else. If you have some power, then your job is to empower somebody else."
Rest in Power.
A Salvadoran trans woman died in ICE custody on June 1, the first day of Pride Month.
Johana Medina was a migrant from El Salvador. She was seeking asylum in the U.S.
Known to her friends as Joa, Johana passed away Saturday night from complications due to HIV/AIDS. Her death was announced on the Diversidad Sin Fronteras Facebook page on Sunday.
In a statement, Casa Migrante trans leader Grecia, who was close with Johana, said that ICE agents ignored Johana’s pleas for help as her illness became worse while in custody.

We mourn. We remember. We stand with the LGBTQ community against hate and violence.
A Florida man was murdered early Sunday morning defending his gay friends from a drunk homophobe who followed them out of the restaurant where they were eating.
Multiple witnesses reported that the killer came after the group and shouted, “If we were in my country I’d kill all of you like rats. I hate you damned gays. I’m going to kill you all here.”
The victim, 22-year-old Juan Javier Cruz , was shot dead with a handgun Mena pulled from his pocket after defending his friends.
This is not right that people have to die just because homophobia is flourishing in America.
RIP Juan Javier Cruz, you are a hero.
Rest in power
May his memory be a blessing.
When people say “It’s 2018, nobody cares if you’re gay or not.” They don’t even know
On Dec 6, 1989, at 5:10pm, a man with a gun a hunting knife, and a vendetta against feminists walked into École Polytechnique, and killed 14 women, and injuring 14 others, in what is known as the École Polytechnique massacre, and the worst gun-reated mass murder in Canada . He separated the men from the women in the classes he attacked, and only shot the women. Within 20 minutes, he turned the gun on himself so he could take an easy way out. The École Polytechnique massacre happened 26 years ago today. That man’s name means nothing but murder and death, so we will not give him the courtesy of granting him media attention. Instead, let us remember the victims, women who were in school to learn, who had hopes and dreams, family and friends, lovers and loving personalities. Let us remember

Trayvon Martin was walking home from a store. George Zimmerman falsely accused him of being a criminal.
Philando Castile was reaching for his license. Jeronimo Yanez falsely accused him of reaching for his gun.
If conservatives are so worried about men’s lives being ruined by false accusations, why didn’t they feel the same way about these men being falsely accused?
Suzanne Spaak (1905-1944) was a Belgian operative for the French Resistance during World War II. Her efforts helped save hundreds of people from certain death.
She was a wealthy and well-known woman in high circles around Brussels, and used this influence to collaborate with the French Resistance and the National Movement Against Racism in their humanitarian efforts. She saved hundreds of Jewish children from deportation, hiding many of them in her own house and arranging for them to be moved to safe countries. She was executed by the Gestapo in 1944, days before the liberation of Paris.

Raymond Cormier has been found not guilty in the 2014 death of 15-year-old Tina Fontaine.
The unanimous verdict by the seven-woman and four-man jury came after two days of deliberations.
The 56-year-old Cormier had pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder in the slaying of Fontaine, whose body was found wrapped in a duvet cover and weighed down with rocks in Winnipeg’s Red River.
Her death reignited calls for a national inquiry into missing and murdered Indigenous women.
can someone please give me some legal insight into how he was found “not guilty” when she was clearly murdered? i just don’t understand HOW i’m so angry
Experts testified the river had washed away any DNA on the cover, but with Cormier on their radar, investigators went undercover and offered him an apartment.
Bugs captured what formed the heart of the Crown’s case.
Cormier was recorded telling a woman that he would make a bet that Tina was killed because he had had sex with her and then “I found out she was 15 years old.”
In another recording, Cormier was heard arguing with a woman and saying that there was a little girl in a “grave someplace screaming at the top of her lungs for me to finish the job. And guess what? I finished the job.”
Somebody kill him and put him in the river. Idec anymore. The system has failed and he should die.
Trayvon would have turned 23 today, February 5, 2018.
This is a tragedy. Wiped out by hate.
Just want to say their names again:
