The issue with K/lux is that fandom chose to priories both characters over the actual leads. A character like Hux would have never gained the popularity he did if Finn and Poe were played by white men. And that's not right.
That’s my issue with it, too. People point out that minor characters have gained unexpected popularity before, but to my knowledge never at the expense of main characters–unless those mains were characters of color. Boba Fett had a cult following for a while (which did not last into the prequel trilogy where he and his clone father were portrayed by Maori actors Daniel Logan and Temuera Morrison, hmm), but even at the height of his popularity he was not more popular than Luke and Han. The only times I see the fandom focus more on supporting characters than main characters is in cases like the Blade franchise and now The Force Awakens. Guess what they have in common, smh.
