JJ never said Snoke was never important, you just thought he was. Luke’s purpose on Ahch-to was always to die quietly. JJ never hinted that Rey was a Skywalker, you made that up. Balance of the Force has always meant equal light and dark. Finn was always a side character. Star Wars’ humor was always this goofy. Poe was always a reckless hothead. Rey is unselfish to a fault, not someone who spent years looking out for herself and not trusting people. Rey’s parents are buried on Jakku. Luke was always a stickler for the orthodox Jedi ways, but Yoda didn’t care about them. Star Wars was repetitive, borrowing too much from itself, and something needed to break the mold and do something different. No, I’m not ‘gaslighting’ you, you’re just remembering things incorrectly through the lens of your unrealistic expectations.

glowy brain: “Kylo isn’t bad”

quasar group brain: switching meme formats in the middle

Which meme image is: Kylo is bad because a creepy old dude had been psychicly grooming him since he was a kid and every adult in his life either abandoned him or actively turned on him for it?

his dad tried to get him to come home and he stabbed him you fucking moron asfgssggfdubvfy

Calm down son, its a joke not a dick, no need to jump on it so hard.

Nice of you to admit that blaming other character for Kylo’s shitty choices is a joke

Guys, girls , other folk…they are shitty , high budget popcorn flicks..it’s almost certainly not worth getting this invested in them.

Good grief.

At this rate one of you is going end up bombing opening night of episode 9 cos rey/kylo becomes canon.

Says the person who cared enough to interject their unasked-for opinion into someone else’s post 😂 Considering that the “poor widdle Ben” crowd is currently harassing an author over calling him an abuser, my fears are rather the other way around.

You mean like that same way I made a joke to my mutual @sighinastorm And y'all came oozing out of the woodwork because you saw my comment in the notes?

Good grief, I know star wars fans were always a little..involved but at this point I’m expecting a Fatwa and a suicide bomber, should I just commit seppuku with a toy saber now and get it over with or will that not excoriate my sins enough to permit me forgiveness?

It’s called “staying in your lane,” dear, and your side of the fandom is disliked precisely because you are incapable of it.

And goodness, all I observed is what you yourself have rather strenuously insisted–that your comment attempting to exonerate Kylo Ren is a joke. We are actually in agreement and you make this giant leap to suicide bombings, fatwas, and seppuku? What kind of epic fragility 😂

Oh sweety pie, you’re just one of the loons currently hanging around my notifications and inbox but sure it’s “my side of the fandom” that can’t stay in a lane and is dispicable.

All this from making a joke post to a mutual but sure my making hyperbolic jokes about your ‘side’s apparent fanaticism is the fragility on display.

The movies really are not good enough to be inspiring this kind of insanity.

If you’re going to purposefully come onto someone else’s post, maybe be prepared for pushback and don’t play victim lmao. I mean do you really need a Tumblr 101 or

Yeah, we agree. Your original point is a total joke. I made a joke in response to your joke. What was the point of contention again?

Sorry you think I’m feeling victimised? I am laughing at y'all and making jokes about you..was that not clear?

Tumblr 101 is that people who consider fandom to be an identity trait are probably 1 car accident away from getting out the sledgehammer and cinderblocks :)

Have a nice day now.

So in other words you made something out of nothing, a reply pointing out a self admitted joke is a joke. Kthx

If your first reason for why J.J. Abrams was chosen as the Episode IX director is basically “he has time on his hands,” then your “analysis” is probably shit and not worth reading.

THIS is just how relaxed and available Abrams is:

Not only did he already have an agreement with Paramount, they actually accommodated him so he can work on SW and another studio can’t come snap him up. That’s how busy and in demand he is, that he had to rearrange his entire work schedule and his preexisting agreement with a major studio–a change it agreed to because it wants him so badly–in order to do IX.

Readily available? Fuck outta here. J.J. didn’t come back because he had nothing better to do, he came back because he badly wanted to. And likely, I suspect, because he was begged to.

Bob Iger was banging on JJ’s door with Boyega and Ridley waiting in the backseat of his whip throwing puppy dog eyes at JJ.

🤢 Johnson apologist

So basically Iger is the Rey to JJ’s Luke, while John and Daisy are sharing Chewie’s fur suit and broke the door down? Makes sense to me.

Okay but this just really underlines how desperate some people at Disney/LFL were to have JJ back.  Also they must really have offered JJ something substantial to return when he initially said he didn’t want to. And I doubt it is just money, he could get that easier and with less risk elsewhere.

Paramount had every right to keep JJ to the contract he’d signed yet chose to accommodate him on this? Yeah I know Disney is a freaking mastodon, but Paramount isn’t exactly a small time indie company is it? Sounds like JJ is a guy who can pretty much name his projects and conditions as he pleases.

Finally, did this person take a single look at JJ’s IMDB profile and the huge number of projects he’s been involved in since TFA premiered and till now? Like, the man has been the opposite of idle.

I am nearly positive that JJ’s agreement with Paramount came with a penalty clause in case of breach of contract. Either Paramount agreed to waive it because they preferred to modify the agreement rather than have JJ pay it and walk, or Disney/LF agreed to pay the penalty (or whatever portion of it, since JJ wasn’t in full breach) to Paramount so JJ can work on IX. And that’s on top of whatever they’re paying for JJ’s work. Both Paramount and the Mouse want JJ, bad.

I was actually going to leave out the IMDB profile comparisons because a lot of JJ’s credits since 2016 are as executive director, which can mean anything from “I lent the project my big important name without doing anything” to “I did everything that wasn’t anyone else’s job.” With him I’m guessing it was somewhere in between, like bringing money into the projects plus differing levels of creative work. But even assuming he only put in work into half the listed projects, the comparison between him and RJ is hilarious or sad depending on how you look at it. They’re not even in the same playing field.

This is JJ between TFA and EpIX:

This is RJ between TLJ and... actually he has nothing after TLJ other than the untitled first movie in the trilogy that has no release date yet, so I decided to be generous and went back 10 years.

And yeah, these are director credits as opposed to producer credits and maybe it is too soon for RJ to be working again or something, except JJ’s been working nonstop after TFA and has a video game that he was creative director for coming out in 2019 in addition to EpIX. RJ doesn’t have anything going on since TLJ, not as a producer, not as a writer or anything else that I can find. But, you know, I bet he’s beat and needs his rest unlike that slacker JJ.

LF: This character is forced to be some villain’s girlfriend!

Me: so she’s his sex slave or what???

LF: she’s not wearing a bikini though, so it’s… feminist!?

AND she tells Han that she doesn’t feel worthy of his love because of all she’s been through for three years, which is you know, a rape victim for all these years. Which fucking YIKES, that really reads like “I’m no longer “pure” and you deserve a woman who hasn’t been tainted by a man other than you”.

And he’s not even giving her a deep speech about how that’s nonsense?

Apparently he does, he views her as a victim who he couldn’t save (again her primary purpose in this movie is for Han to “save” her), but she ends up leaving him in the end because she doesn’t feel worthy of his love. Instead of, you know, a storyline where they could have actually given a female character agency and had her been an ambitious career woman who prioritized climbing up the crime syndicate ladder over her relationship with Han, they made her a kidnaping victim/sex slave who only leaves the male hero because she doesn’t deserve him now that she’s no longer pure.

Upon reading the spoilers, it actually really comes off like LFL/Kasdan were catering to the dudebros who worship Han as a masculine hero who would be upset at him being dumped by an ambitious career woman. “The only way a woman could choose not to be with Han is if she doesn’t think she deserves him!”

No, y’see, she *chose* (under duress) to become a mobster’s ‘girlfriend’ and that automatically makes it consensual, how dare critics be misogynistic by calling her a rape victim!!!!!!!

^Pretty sure that’s how people with a very warped view on ‘feminism’ will defend the writing.

Yet again, the price of adventure and danger for a woman is captivity and sexual violence while for a man it’s more adventure and, eventually, love. Like we haven’t seen this a thousand times.

But…she gets to…hold a gun? I guess?

Pro-gun is pro feminism!

Reyl0ers are the worst, joining an AMA with the author when they clearly haven’t read the book just cherry picked excerpts on Tumblr. Ben didn’t use the Force to stop the droid, Han and Lando stopped the hack. You would know that if you read the book. Also Ben had no idea what was going on and was fine 5 minutes later.

God, the book was about Han and LANDO not baby ben.

It’s funny though. People keep trying to get him to make it about “Ben” and he’s not biting. He even dropped a spoiler when answering that question to bring it back to Lando:

He said: “Hi! Thanks for reading and stopping by! In know those were sad right!? I was mostly interested in filling out Han, Leia and Ben as characters and relatable humans – it wasn’t about filling in pieces of the story so much as getting at some less glamourous realities of parenthood that are true even when you’ve saved the galaxy. And in that endgame moment: SPOILERS: what happens is related to Lando’s actions out in space more than anything else”.

I love this one:

The question:”One of the biggest aspects I noticed that has been talked about from “Last Shot” is the presence of scenes featuring a young Ben Solo, and his presence in Han’s life. Particularly, the one scene with the kitchen droid has caused a lot of discussion and stir online. When asked about what he wasn’t and was allowed to write for the “The Last Jedi” novelization, Jason Fry said that he worked with Rian Johnson on specific book scenes. Fry also mentioned that he had to be careful not to write too much of Kylo or Ben’s POV in the book, because it went into “spoiler” territory. My question is, did you approach writing Ben Solo’s character in “Last Shot” similarly, and/or work more closely with others on it? Are there certain scenes in “Last Shot” that are particularly important or crucial, especially in relation to the sequel trilogy, or upcoming “Star Wars” content? And what were some of the best, or most challenging, scenes or characters to write in “Last Shot”?”

His answer bypasses baby Ben altogether: “ ahhh great question but I’m not sure which parts I’m allowed to answer so i’m going to have to skip right to the end: I had an inordinate amount of fun writing Fyzen’s POV. That always happens with me and villains and I gotta wonder about myself, but whatever — it’s fun. I also really enjoyed getting in Han and Lando’s heads…such interesting places to be! And especially thinking through what makes them different, how they approach problems and love, for example…how they negotiate or fight. All fascinating. Challenging: Actually, one really hard thing was having to write from an outline. I turned it in and got it all approved and then was like ughhh now I know what happens blahhhh because I almost never outline books. but then I realized it was too short so I ended up having to figure out a whole bunch other things anyway so it worked out ayyy!”

I enjoyed the AMA! Daniel kept it focused and didn’t let it get hijacked by reylos. The “Ben scenes” were about Han, parenthood, and in at least one case, Lando. He was funny, and I learned about paramedic Geek culture and Daniel’s commitment to inclusive storytelling.

Don’t anyone believe the hype, “The Last Shot” is NOT about Ben Solo.
