I Am All In Rewatch - Jess & Rory - Episode 3x22

And I think she was right to let Jess go because what kind of you know, who calls and doesn't say anything and then just listens and then hangs up. I mean, please, I mean, this is this is an option for your future...Let's just rewind here a little bit. We we we have to realize how much pain Jess is in and how confused he is and how his world is just blown apart. His dad doesn't want him, his mom doesn't want him, he's got Luke kicked him out. Nobody wants him, and he doesn't feel worthy. He does, but he wants he's hanging on. You know, that phone call scared me actually. That's the kind of phone call when somebody hangs up and it's like they make a decision. You know, it's like that kind of depression and loneliness. I mean, that guy needs somebody to reach out. He really needs help. You know. It really hurt me, It really really really hurt me, you know, so we can you know, listen. I I get this way too, and everybody does you get all judgy about things because it's just a TV show, But but look at the look at the character, look at what he's going through, and it's it's and that was a lifeline for him. That was a call that he didn't have to say it, but the call really meant save me...It's actually a very beautiful scene. -Scott

What was, is he like crazy Luke? Like talking to himself and like muttering? I rewound that about four times just laughed my butt off...Oh, this is another example. This is another example of how, you know, naturally great Alexis is because she just, you could just see her and feel her absorb these, these, this horrible news. Right. And how she process it just, you could see everything happening in her eyes and her body. I mean, it's just wonderful acting. I, I was really...she's so vulnerable, such a great way to approach the craft, you know, just she's so open. It's wonderful to watch. -Scott

But I think it's some of Milo's best work. He really, really pulled me in. He really, really, really pulled me in with this cuz he was so hurt and he was so lost and he was so confused and I, I just loved him in this episode. I, I just fell in love with him again in this episode. So I'm like, you know, I'm, I'm all there for, for Jess now hoping that he, God, I mean just, I mean, getting thrown out by his father, he doesn't even show he, he just shows up and father's rejecting him again. I mean the poor kid, you know, he's, he's, he's in a tough spot. I'm I'm, you know, I, my, my natural protective instincts, you know, just me Scott was, was really just man, just, I was just fired up...He did fail him. He did fail him. And I, and I do feel bad. I, and I know that Luke feels bad and he should feel bad. He did fail him because he, he, with the young kid, it's, you know, you gotta pick your moments to be that rigid and that stern, you know, like I said, in the last podcast, why isn't there a world where, where you can sit somebody down and really talk to them and really support them and really love them. Instead of all of this, this has gotta be my way garbage and you know, and all this. And, and, and, and my God, I just, I don't know how anybody, especially a kid that vulnerable, that smart, that sensitive and that troubled, how is he? He's not gonna respond well to that. You know, you, I mean, they're gonna make mistake after mistake, after mistake, after mistake, the only, and I, and I agreed with Sasha, right? It's like, you gotta love these people, man. You gotta love them and you gotta hug them and you gotta be patient with 'em and they're gonna screw up. And you gotta just factor that into the equation and alter your behavior. So I was, but Luke, again, like Luke is not the guy to raise or, or to be there for this kid...But I wanted to see a softer Luke. I wanted to see a Luke that was more supportive and gentle with that boy and, and loving and open up his heart. Cause wouldn't that have been powerful..But wouldn't the, the most moving scene would've been Luke opening up his heart to that kid and showing him how it affected him. Like imagine Luke in tears. Like shattered.  Like  kid, I'm, I'm dying for you here, man. It would've worked. Right. I think that's gonna be more effective going forward. I support that. -Scott

It's just Luke at his most protective. It's it's, it's, it's really just, you know, the bear coming out in him and listen, come near him. I'll eat you. That's all there is to it. And you know, he cares. That's Luke showing him that's Luke loving Jess. Yeah, because you're no good. And you're just gonna rip people apart...This, this is not a situation where Luke can rescue him. Right. He's it's, he's, it's not possible. The kid needs to be in therapy and he needs to, he needs to talk to a professional and he needs to do it for over a long period of time. Luke is just gonna get chewed up doing this. Hopefully Luke can inspire in him the strength to, you know, look in the mirror and, and say, listen, I need help. I need real help...What, what, what would happen if Luke didn't get angry? And sat him down and loved the kid and said, listen, let's talk. What's go. And I know Jess is impossible to talk to, but if he just sits him down and says, listen, these are all your choices that you're making and choices have consequences. So you can do whatever you want, you know, but here's, what's going to happen as a result. Right? You won't be able to live here cause I won't tolerate it. And he, I, I think he needs a Luke in his life. But not a screaming Luke. Right. And I under, and I understand that Luke is, is, is upset. And I don't think Luke can handle this. It's not something that he's equipped for because he doesn't have the experience raising a kid. He doesn't know how to raise a kid. He's never raised a kid.  You raise a kid and you acquire some real special skills that only other parents have. And it's, you can pretend at it. But if you, unless you have the experience, you're gonna go crazy. Because to be a parent is to be like a super human patience is required and you can get in a situation that where you become so reactive and you just sort of go to this place and you can't do that. Can't do that with a child. So, you know, he's in over his head, he's just in over his head. It's it's, it's bound to fail. That relationship is bound to fail, unfortunately. And, and it's entertaining to watch and it's heartfelt and everybody's trying real hard and it's heartbreaking, but it's doomed to failure. -Scott

But I think on his own, he's smart enough over time to figure it out and he'll make something of his life. I, I do believe that if he gets away from all of this and that's why he is going to the coast, man, you know? Cause he wants to be 3000 miles away from his pain. ...That's a selfless move. That's sparing her any further harm. He knows that he's toxic. He knows that he's harmful. He's a smart, he's a smart kid. He knows he couldn't hack it. Even in that little town. Right. Even with his uncle helping him out, he needed to get away and go find himself and go get his act together and best to do it far away. Right. Because he's smart enough to, and resourceful enough that he's gonna have an apartment, he's gonna have a little, little apartment somewhere. -Scott

I Am All In Rewatch - Jess & Rory - Episode 3x20 (Part 1)

[Yeah. Here's my question for Scott. Does Jess treat Rory like dirt?] Yes, but he doesn't do it intentionally. He's out of control of his psychological and emotional state. He has no control over what he thinks and what he feels. He's just getting swept away emotionally and psychologically by his anger, by his sense of loss. And he's a very confused young man and it's, it's heartbreaking to watch because this happens to a lot of kids, male and female, you know, and, and he's just completely out of control and it's yeah. [Why is he like being kind of coward?] Because he's never, he's never, he wasn't raised properly. He, he, he, he'd never saw an example of what normal was growing up between his mother and his father. His father was gone and you know, Lord knows what his mother was up to when he was growing up. He doesn't, you doesn't know what normal is. He doesn't know the rules of the game. He just see's something he senses Rory can, is an intellectual equal. That's what turns him on. She's obviously, you know, easy on the eyes as, as, and she's an attractive girl and he wants to be with her. He, he, I think he falls for her pretty quickly and senses that this is a far more stable person. She's a lot like me in many ways. And I love her and I want her and no one's standing in my way. He doesn't take the normal route. He doesn't do the normal things to, to get her. He's he's a guy, who's a Maverick, a loner he's depressed. He's full of anxiety and rage. And he just doesn't know how to operate in the real world. He's never seen it. You know, his parents never showed it to him. He's just guessing at what to do. This, this is not a situation where Luke can rescue him. I need real help. -Scott

I Am All In Rewatch - Jess & Rory - Episode 3x19 (Part 4)

He went after Jess because Jess made a comment about, oh, that figures that you two would end up together...He said figures cuz they're together and he's consoling her....But I think Jared and Milo did a lot of their own stunts. It did look like it. Cause usually you can tell if it's stunt doubles, not, I really could only tell it was stunt doubles maybe once when Dean threw him over the counter at the beginning of the fight and he came spilling over, I don't think that they would have Milo do that...That was, that was violent. And it looked like the, the stunt double hit his back against the counter and it was just, it was, it was kind of brutal... But that was, that was a really violent fight. That was really, that was a super brutal, violent fight...Well he, you know, Jess had that coming. Yeah. He, he planted the seeds for that. He, he mistreated Dean throughout, you know that entire, his entire dating situation. He tried to, he broke them up. You know, he actually broke those two up. He intentionally tried to break them up and he did. So he had it coming. -Scott

Oh it's it's it's so odd that, I mean, I, I think it's kind of perfect in TV world and drama world that Rory having, living her best life, going off to Yale for God's sake and her just such a future. And then she's with this guy that she loves and his situation couldn't be worse. I mean, he's just emotionally just gone. He's he's so troubled this kid, you know, he, he, he really does he's really, really struggling. He's really struggling. It's hard to watch. I can't, I, I don't want her to abandon him now. I think it, she has more character than that. She's gonna hang in there and she's gonna try to help him out, you know. -Scott
