Jenna B.J. Novak said that the character of Ravi was brought in to give the character of Kelly a reason to quit Dunder Mifflin at the end of the season because she was leaving to do The Mindy Project. So that's why we introduced the storyline of Kelly and Ravi. I also have a fan catch from this scene from Aiden W in Portland, Oregon, who said, When the camera cuts to Ryan in his closet, next to him over his shoulder is a jar of jumbo pretzels, but they are all broken. Who would buy it? Or did Phil Shea purposely break all the pretzels? It's driving me crazy.
Jenna Mindy had written this scene for me and B.J., and we couldn't get through it because we kept laughing about it. It was so funny to us, this dialogue. But then people really liked this bickering, and so it's going to continue. But it kind of started here over this thing about the breadsticks.
Angela Yeah, I feel like this one is the one that knocked it out of the park, but you guys have always bickered a little bit here and there.
Jenna It's true. It's true. But now we're really going to start amping it up.
The captains of the ship have spoken
Michael is going to enter and just take Meredith's birthday cake and just start eating it. Jenna, this is in the bloopers. I think there's, like, five takes of Steve eating that cake, and they kept laughing because he had to talk to such a big mouthful. But it cracked me up because you really see how many takes that we do sometimes. And Steve had to do take after take, taking this huge bite of cake. Steve is very, very funny when he talks with food in his mouth. He really is. He's a very funny comedic eat talker. I don't know what that talent is, but he should put it on his resume. I noticed in that scene that the cake box says that it's from Fresh from Mom's Bakery, but I could not find a local Scranton bakery with this name. It made me wonder if it was a fakey box that we had made from the fakey food making people. I bet it's fakey box. It was a real cake. And I did notice it was not an ice cream cake. So we didn't make that mistake again as the party planning committee. That's right. -Angela & Jenna
And then we walk in and Michael has his line that I have seen quoted so many times where he says, Well, well, well, how the turntables... OK, I had to know how that was scripted. So I went to the shooting draft and that line is not in the script. Oh my gosh, we got a fan question about that. Yeah, I don't know if it was pitched on the fly. You know how sometimes writers would have some pitches? Or have Steve improvised it? I don't know. But in the script, this is what it said. Well, well, well. Oh, how the meteor's fallen. Hmm. And I love the turntables so much better. Turntables is so funny. -Angela & Jenna
The Office: Casino Night | The Kelly Clarkson Show
I want everyone to know those are real cheese balls. We had the best time shooting this... It did take us a whole afternoon to shoot this, and the one that took the longest was the three way... Where...You know that reaction that you see at the end when we finally make it? Yes, because you were probably genuinely excited. That was real. I think you can see the look on my face. I knew I caught mine and then I had to look and see if they really caught theirs and then we were genuinely excited. That was the only time we ever got that toss correct...Yes. Oh, without a doubt, this was one of my favorite sequences to shoot ever on The Office. And I feel like it bonded me and Steve and BJ. -Angela & Jenna
