Gonna complain about the general story telling this season real quick.
1. wtf is Eddie’s storyline or lack thereof this season. All he’s done is shave his mustache and dance in his underwear. Where’s the pining for Chris? Where’s the fighting for Chris? Where’s literally any indication of internal growth? Why didn’t we seem him mourning his son? Why didn’t we see him at rock bottom? Why have the priest come in for him to just be like “you’re unhappy? Do something that makes you happy.” Like wtf was that.
2. Henren. Can we stop with the “we’re gonna lose our kids” plot lines? Do they not have any other conflicts? Why did they wrap up the Mara and Ortiz storyline is 2.2 seconds. Is Denny ok now? Is he not traumatized? How’s Karen? She gets one kid back only to witness almost losing the other.
3. Literally all of hotshots. Yea it was funny in the beginning but now it’s taking up screen time that could be used for useful stories
4. wtf is up with Bobby. Like he had no story at all. He’s literally just “I’m captain” give me something please. He lost his team and almost lost his wife again and he’s just fine??? His house burned down and he almost died and he’s just chilling??
5. Athena’s storylines are so fucking bad this season. First we get the most unrealistic emergency plot line which I can accept because it’s not supposed to be. But then we have her doing the most random side quests that police sergeant of her caliber would never be doing. Like routine traffic stops on Halloween?? Undercover operations while chasing suspects 40 years her junior?? Don’t even get me started on how she called sparks “son” after he shot a woman on “accident”. I did enjoy that she recognizes the issue and wants to help the younger generation of cops, but you can’t be forgiving shit like this over and over again. It almost happened to her own kid and she didn’t even acknowledge the systemic issue.
5. Literally everything happening with Madney. What was her plan if chim said he didn’t want another kid? Do they not know how kids are made? How did this accidentally happen again?? I want them to show them struggling with the idea of having a kid. The highs and lows of trying. Not just “Oop I’m pregnant already good thing you’re cool with it”. Also Maddie’s characterization this season is so bad??? She’s got no real story and so many biphobic comments towards Buck already.
6. Gerard’s redemption arc while Tommy is left to be alone. While Ortiz (who isn’t the best but she did lose her son) has her career destroyed. What fucking bullshit is that.
7. The entire Abby storyline that makes no narrative sense beyond the fact that her fiancé was named Tommy. The rest is totally ridiculous.
8. The pacing is god fucking awful. All of the major plot lines have been wrapped up besides Eddie’s, who hasn’t had any real development at all. Tommy and Buck basically had no screen time that developed their relationship besides a break up (that was written so poorly) for shock value. It’s just bad story telling across the board
9. And lastly the plot holes. Wtf happened to the bees?? What happened to the private plane that crashed into the jet?? It didn’t just disappear. What about the book of pedophiles and rapists?? All of the Abby Tommy shit is one massive plot hole.
Anyway, I just need to know wtf is going on because there’s some kind of disconnect between the writers and showrunners. Nothing is making any sense, everything is too fast or poorly written. As someone who really loves this show, it’s like no one involved gives af.
