Hiii~ I’m not sure if this has already been asked, but what writing program do you use to write your fanfictions? Would you even recommend it for others?

Thank you for answering! 👑🐍

I use several. Primarily Google Docs (I don't really rec this because I heard a while back that Google could take your stuff from you? or people can report your work and Google can wipe it? But that's if you share things. I'm very careful about who I give access to my stuff.)

I also have Scrivener, which has a bit of a learning curve to use, but that's where I keep a lot of things organized and its my main back up, I guess.

Working versions, Google Docs. Final drafts, Scrivener.

I haven't used Scrivener 3 as much since it came out for Windows, so idk if they fixed the copy-paste formatting issues I used to have trying to c-p things into fanfic editors for posting, but that's primarily why I wound up using two programs.

Google Docs is also a little easier to use on the go, and I write or edit on my phone a lot if I'm having trouble sleeping or if I wanna work on stuff when I'm not home (work breaks, waiting rooms, etc.).

So it really depends on what you need out of a writing program?

I wind up using a lot of spreadsheets as well for my complex fics as well, but some writers never touch a spreadsheet. I used to use a ton of written notes, graph paper, lined paper, color coded index cards and post-it notes.

Depends on the story. Depends on the complexity. Depends on the headspace. You know?

Thanks for the ask!!!! <3

what do you like most about HP? I think I love how human they are, Harry is not a reliable narrator. but we have these characters that are capable of being good and bad. And what do you like least? to me, *cough cough Dumbledore and other negligent adults cough cough* (or maybe it's just what the thrust JK was in making Harry so miserable lol)

I'm going to sleep now. good night and thanks for the answers, it was fun

As a fanfic author? The plot holes. I HATE plotholes, but as a fic author you can go fix them if you want to and build your own little version of canon that's seemless enough to make fandom accept it as gospel. And then the line between fanon and canon is blurred so beautifully 😁

You're always welcome for the fun times, friend. I enjoy them as well!

Hey.

Do you always have everything planned for a story before you start writing?

do you have a skeleton of the general ideas? how does it work?

do you have story ideas that just don't go away, but you don't have a plot for it?

Hi there friend!

All of the above depending on the story, but usually I do not have every detail planned. I'll have a general idea in my head of how the plot will flow from big event to big event though.

Diary has a skeleton of milestones or plot points per year that I planned out long before it was written, nevermind posted. Those have tweaked slightly but for the most part I fill in plot in between and connect details as I go. 3rd year for example has Dementors, the beginning of Tom's emotional awakening, Harry's bind and relationship with Sirius, building tension over H&H switching houses, Hermione becoming a parselmouth/chamber of secrets, and several other things that havent happened yet but will. 4th year has a list. 5th year has a list. Etc etc. The connective tissue doesnt have to be set in stone until im physically writing however. And sometimes the story tweaks itself as it goes.

Obnoxious has no plot but a lot of characyer depth to explore and built its own plot as it went.

The Lady has plot but I have no idea all the little stopping points to get from the beginning to the big stuff at the end, so i have to try and plot out how things happen and define the pacing manually.

I have plenty of stories living in my head rent free that I have multiple variations on the plot for. And since I can't choose just one, they aren't being written down.

I had more to say but I'm at work earlier than normal (overtime bby) and my brain isnt working yet. 😅

Do you like writing smut (in general)? Do you like it more than writing angst or fluff?

I don’t mind it, but I don’t like trying to make it happen if that makes sense. If it flows naturally and it fits in the plot without feeling forced then it’s great. Trying to make shit happen when it doesn’t want to is difficult no matter what you’re trying to write.

I don’t really know if I have a favorite between smut, angst, and fluff honestly? I don’t really pick favorites of anything since my favorites are “clusters” of things usually. It really depends on what I’m writing. For example, the Harmony Pride and Prejudice AU was mostly fluff and a total blast to write. But 13 - #3. The Chosen was very dark, kinda angsty, and kinda sad for a lot of it, and I absolutely loved working on that. Contrarily, Boats Against the Current is very fluffy but hard to find inspiration for even if I adore the story and Obnoxious, while super angsty (and the angsty parts were sometimes the easiest to write), is often difficult to try and work on because there are so many emotional variables to keep track of.

That said, I don’t mind writing smut nearly as much as I thought I would, especially since I originally swore off writing it when I got back into fanfiction a few years ago. (I wrote a little bit when I was a teenager and I look back on that with embarrassment). Now that Uxor Lucifera has made me realize I might actually have something of a knack for smut compared to my past garbage, I’m much more eager to add it into fics when applicable. :3
