The middle of an ongoing Undertale fan comic. It starts on the exterior of the skeleton brothers' house in Snowdin, with cheery warm lights on inside every window and Undertale-style black-and-white text at the top that reads, "Elsewhere, Earlier".
Papyrus (wearing a long-sleeved collared purple shirt, black gloves, long purple pants with orange polka dots, and no shoes) is at his desk, playing with action figures in silence and a look of either discontent or deep thought on his face. An alarm clock beeps offscreen, and Papyrus looks over exclaiming "Oh!", his previous expression wiped away with a look of pleasant surprise replacing it.
Standing up with his hands on his hips and a happy grin on his face, Papyrus reads out the time on his digital clock: "Five in the ay-em!" A close-up on Papyrus as he puts a hand over his mouth to "whisper" with a sly look to his eyes as he continues, "Also known as…"
"The perfect time to start the day!" Papyrus finishes on the next panel, which zoomed back out to show him striking a cool pose, throwing out a sort of dramatic two-fingered fingergun to his right with his right hand as he leans to his left side on a slightly bent left knee, his left arm bent out too and his left hand held out level at his chest. With narrowed eyebrows, Papyrus' grin now looks determined.
Papyrus steps out of his room, still talking, with his pointer finger held up and a close-eyed confident look on his face. "Step one, to getting ready for the day!" Standing fully in the hallway, Papyrus puts his hands on his hips again in another confident pose as he cheerily announces, "Hygiene!"
The next panel is from behind Papyrus, showing us his reflection as he brushes his teeth at the bathroom sink, foamy toothpaste covering his teeth as he continues talking. "Most monsters usually need to clean their whole body regularly," he says, "But as I am a skeleton, I only need to do so as the situation demands." Then, in smaller text, as if added in a mumble or afterthought, "For example, if my friend suplexed me into a puddle of mud."
"Step two!" Papyrus exclaims offscreen, back to full volume, now finished brushing his teeth and tossing his orange toothbrush into its cup with a clatter in an overhead shot of the sink counter, his toothbrush next to Sans' light blue toothbrush. Back in the hallway, Papyrus grabs the railing and vaults over it to drop down to the ground floor with a focused grin on his face. Cut to his hand grabbing a carton of milk out of the fridge. Then cut to his hand taking a package, presumably of dinosaur egg oatmeal, from its box. Cut to the milk being poured splashily into a blue bowl on the table with spoon and fork next to it. Cut again to the microwave humming as it heats up the bowl of cereal, and a final cut to it finished and beeping.
"A healthy meal!" Papyrus announces, finally sitting at the table and getting a spoonful of oatmeal, the window behind him frosted over from Snowdin's weather outside. When his bowl is empty, he sets it with a clink down to the side of the sink, then stands for a moment surveying the room with a calm smile and his hands back on his hips. Then, mounting the stairs to go back up again, he says, "And now for step three…" Cut to him in front of his closet, flung open by Papyrus, to reveal clothes in many different colors, as he says, "Picking a cool outfit!"
Cut to him fully dressed in a new outfit, wearing fingerless black gloves, black jacket open over an orange top with white skull and crossbones design, and mustard-yellow bandanna or scarf around his neck, as Papyrus closes his eyes dramatically with raised eyebrows and fingers pressed to his temple, indeed looking very cool, as he considers aloud, "Something like this, perhaps?" Cut to him musing, "Or maybe this?", now dressed in a sort of salmon pinkish colored tank top with light blue and beige wavy lines across the chest, matching beige sunhat and gloves, and the hint of high-waisted blue somethings (maybe denim bottoms), looking sort of coyly or maybe just consideringly at the viewer with a wink, raised eyebrows, and finger held up in thought.
"But of course," he says in the next panel, "we all know there's only one outfit that I, the Great Papyrus, will wear!" Wearing a short-sleeved faded blue sweater in the interim, Papyrus is holding up his battle body top with a proud, close-eyed grin.
The next two panels are dialogue-less close-ups of his face; at first, he has a look of total excitement on his face, seemingly preparing to talk about his battle body; the next panel, however, all excitement has drained out of his expression and a sort of frozen neutral look has set in instead around his eyes, eyebrows, and mouth, as if Papyus' face can't quite settle into a frown but can't hold up a grin anymore either. There's a dot-dot-dot pause over his head and a faint cloud of dust around his head with darker/dimmed lighting to the panel, as though Papyrus is remembering something terrible.
The next panel has Papyrus tossing his battle body away with a casual close-eyed grin, he says, "Actually, I think I will pick out a different outfit." Cut to Papyrus modeling his new outfit for us, his right arm casually at his side with his thumb hooked into his pants pocket, and his left arm held up as if flexing his arm/hand in the new clothes, wearing a pleased grin to top it all off, as he says, "Can't have my impeccable sense of style go stale, after all!" Then, in parentheses, again as if mumbled or an afterthought, "Even if my battle body is the height of fashion". Papyrus is decked out in a zippered-up purple-and-black varsity jacket with an orange jack-o-lantern patch on the breast, reddish orange gloves, tan brown pants cuffed at the calves to show off long purple socks, and laced-up black boots.
Now, suddenly looking grim with a set, unsmiling mouth, Papyrus narrows his eyebrows and says, "And time for step four-" A shadow falls over his eyes, hiding them from view, as he continues, "Four being the hardest of them all." Cut to Papyrus having a happy, pleasant expression back on his face as he rips Sans' blanket/bedsheet off him, sending Sans toppling out of bed and to the floor with shocked, empty black eyesockets, as Papyrus says, "Waking my brother!" Sans is wearing a gray T-shirt and the same black basketball shorts he wears during the day.
Pushing himself up off the floor with an annoyed look, Sans groans, "'pyrus whyyy". Papyrus grins at him without saying anything at first, his grin looking a little (maybe a lot) like brotherly vindictiveness, then the next panel has him smiling all friendly and cheerful again, saying, "Come, brother! It is time for step five!" Sans, hunched on the floor and frowning with his eyes squinted shut with sleepiness, grumbles in a droopy speech bubble, "step five'a what?"
"Time to do our job and duty as sentries!" Papyrus replied, though he's now distracted and grimacing looking down at Sans' dingy gray blanket/sheet that he's still holding, sweat-stains all over it, and adds to himself in a tiny mutter, "ew this is gross". Sans didn't catch that, his eyes still shut and a pleading frown on his face, speech bubble still droopy, whines, "papyrus it's too early for this".
"Nonsense! Justice never sleeps!" Papyrus shouts in a bold spiky speech bubble, dropping Sans' blanket and shooting Sans himself a determined look. "the first time you met undyne it was the middle of the night and she was asleep," Sans argues grouchily, apparently refusing to open his eyes again.
