i read the cutest reddit thread today where this 19 yo boy was “babysitting” his 15 yo little sister while his parents were away on vacation and she got this horrific period and needed to be taken to the ER.
and this sweet 19 yo boy was doing all he could to take care of her, giving her meds and water and then packing stuff up to go to the hospital once reddit was like “yeah if she’s soaking two tampons in an hour you should go” - but being only a little older than a child himself, he didn’t know what to pack, so he brought like three things, and one of them was SUNSCREEN.
lmao everyone on reddit was like “you’re a really good brother but sunscreen?? for the hospital??” lmao they are roasting him. also op’s sister changed his name in her phone to “spf” and their dad calls him “bananaboat” now. this guy is never living this down
(also his sister is ok and it turns out their family has some kind of genetic blood disorder)
the brother kind of reminds me of that post that’s been going around abt that abandoned five-week-old kitten that was taking care of a few two-week-old kittens that were somehow with him and he was just trying his best but he was so small
I decided to read the whole thing, and I want to post something from later in the thread. This is the OP talking a week later, after his sister was diagnosed with the blood disorder: "Anyway we’re all about to be real familiar with hematology and my mom is pissed she’s been told some women just bleed more her whole life lol. Guess my mom and sister weren’t just exaggerating when they would say they were bleeding out. So yeah ig if you’re a girl reading this and you bleed as much as my sister you should see a doctor. Hopefully no one gets gaslit like my mom did but yeah. Here’s a public apology for being ignorant on what yall actually go through bc I thought you could only bleed so much a month 💀 fully willing to admit how fucking stupid that was lol." And later that day:
Good luck to you and your family. And I'm glad that your mom's medical issues have finally been validated. That's huge!
OOP: Oh yeah. I mean she’s in her 40’s (she’ll kill me if I say exactly how old though lol) so like I can’t believe she’s been suffering for 30 something years. She said she’s about to write a big I told you so to every doctor who ever told her to get used to it 💀
I want to point out the absolute bullshit across multiple generations here. He wasn't given appropriate sex ed, and that's not even something where you can say "blame the parents" because apparently his mother was silenced for thirty fucking years!! His reaction to the initial emergency wasn't A+ material, but I'll give him a solid B+ for supporting his sister, seeking assistance (he ended up on r/AskDocs while trying to find answers online and mistook it for something like Ask-A-Nurse), and that his response when commenters were like "wow my brother would never, they'd be so grossed out" was "it's just blood." Extra credit to bump him to an A- because once they were at the hospital he advocated for his sister and he was a young man who had no experience with medical emergencies, especially not ones that would require him to swim upstream against a tide of institutional misogyny ("some women just bleed more..." OP's mom, where is your doctor, I just wanna talk). Anyway. Point being. OP, his sister, and his mother all have a genetic disorder that in severe cases can be lethal and nobody knew because for thirty fucking years his mother was told "some women just bleed more" when she begged for help. Misogyny kills, and it does not discriminate between the sinners and the saints.
just saw a fanfic on ao3 have a dedication for chatgpt... that section is meant for your horny perverted mutual who proofread your work, you violated sacred law and you will be torn apart and laid bare btw
anyways, if you feel the need to use ai to do your work for you, consider this: get a new hobby because this one isn't for you
Consider this. Not everyone has that time, or energy. Again, I just don’t understand this whole thing of “effort is important”
if it were, capitalism wouldn’t work.
not to point out the obvious but capitalism doesn’t work or people would have the time and energy to sit down and put effort and even enjoy their hobbies?
ai gets trained on real people’s effort and most of these companies are stealing content that was posted online, for you to just sit there enter a shitty prompt and bam, you get a picture of a big titty girl with 8 fingers or a story that is made up of cliches and patterns.
answer me this what do you get out of doing nothing to achieve a mediocre result from ai when the joy of creating comes from the act of figuring it out and doing it yourself, honing your skills?
“Not everyone has the time or energy to” ok that’s a you problem my favorite author posted a 30k word chapter after their house burned down and then got the bubonic plague. ur just not built for it
My wife, who doesn't even go here: if you're not writing it yourself, why are you there?
Your body must be rested and fed if you wish to be a pervert.
10 World-Building Aspects You Probably Overlooked
When crafting a fictional world, it's easy to focus on the big picture—epic battles, grand landscapes, and memorable characters. However, it’s also important to flesh out your world-building to create a ‘real’ world. Some aspects to consider when world-building are:
1. Local Cuisine
Consider the types of food your characters eat and how it reflects their culture, geography, and economy. Unique dishes can reveal societal values and local ingredients.
2. Currency & Trade
Explore the forms of currency used and the trade systems in place. This can include bartering, precious metals, or unique items as currency, influencing economic interactions.
3. Timekeeping Practices
Different cultures may have their own methods for measuring time, whether it's a unique calendar system, seasons, or celestial events, affecting daily life and traditions.
4. Cultural Taboos
Consider the unspoken rules and taboos that govern behavior in your world. These can drive conflict and character motivations, adding depth to societal interactions.
5. Local Flora and Fauna
Unique plants and animals can shape the environment and influence the culture, whether through medicine, food sources, or as part of local mythology.
6. Rituals and Festivals
Incorporate unique rituals or festivals that celebrate historical events, seasonal changes, or important life milestones, providing insight into cultural values and traditions.
7. Language Nuances
Explore dialects, slang, or even the use of sign language that reflects the culture and social dynamics, enriching dialogue and interactions between characters.
8. Architecture and Housing Styles
The design and materials of buildings can reflect climate, resources, and cultural values. Unique architectural features can tell a story about the society that built them.
9. Social Hierarchies and Classes
Examine how social structures affect character relationships and interactions. Class distinctions can influence everything from daily life to political power.
10. Environmental Impact
Consider how the natural environment shapes societal behaviours, resource usage, and conflicts. Climate and geography can drive migration patterns and societal development.

Bucky knowing at least 31 languages according to CACW, super serum brain enhancements and the fact he learned Xhosa in Wakanda, leads me to believe he must have the fucking gnarliest of language blurring. You know when you can't seem to figure out how to word something in one language so you skip over to a different one but wait no one knows that...
I also don't think English would be Bucky's default language anymore. It's his birth language, sure, but Russian is probably the language he defaults to now after 80 years right?
So if Bucky's ever delirious for whatever reason, extreme tiredness, magic, super drugs or whatever who knows, do we think he talks in the most insane blend of languages, does he say a sentence in Japanese then switch to Korean and then to Polish, do we think he'd point blank say "I'm sorry I don't speak English" in English to his English speaking friends or teammates because he thinks in Russian and about fifteen other languages before he gets to English, and then goes "oh wait I do" or...?

Spock is literally this guy
I just recently rewatched the Marvel movies and decided to draw my favorite ship, because I didn't have the courage to do it before.
ok, because i just saw a terrible take, i feel compelled to say that there is no "fic market" to "oversaturate" in fandom. good gravy.
i need everyone reading this post to remember that writing is not "content." writing is art. you don't look at a painting of an ocean and say "eh, it's overdone." you look at it and think its beautiful, because it is, and y'all better start treating writing the same fucking way before you lose your favorite authors for good.
Art is not something to be capitalized on. Stop treating it like it is.

Funny story from the other night:
A dad came into my cafe with his 3 year old daughter. He bought her a cookie and himself a coffee. They sit down, and I go back to my pre-closing cleaning. Three minutes later the dad walks up to the counter again, so I stop cleaning and walk over to greet him again.
As I’m in the middle of saying “hi” he cuts me off and says “Water.”
Not “Can I get a glass of water, please?” not “Where can I get water?” not even a confused “water?” like he’s not sure how to get water in this cafe. Just a single word demand.
I work in silicon valley, so I’m kind of used to techies talking to me like I’m Siri or Alexa, but it still always drives me crazy when they do this. Like, I don’t even care about the “please” anymore, I just want people to talk to me in complete sentences. So I get the guy a cup of water, and he sits back down.
As I’m about to go back to cleaning I hear his daughter go “Daddy, you did that WRONG. You have to say ’CAN I have a glass of water PLEASE’”
My jaw hit the ground. The dad suddenly became flustered and tried coming up with excuses “I-I said please…” “No you didn’t!” “Well she was busy…. I didn’t want to bother her…..” “You still got to be polite!”
When they were done eating the dad brought the dishes back to the counter and said “Thank you so much!” It’s amazing how fast someone’s manners can improve when a 3 year old calls them out.
Shout out to whoever is teaching that little girl manners, because you know it’s not her dad. I hope she never stops calling rude people out.
