The Gatherings of a Wizard

@lirimaerspiritualgatherings / lirimaerspiritualgatherings.tumblr.com

I am 33 years old gay male witch (though I love the term wizard better). Single! This blog will be mostly Witchcraft/pagan related entries that I find interesting (or that I type up myself). A lot of what I focus on in my practice is Spirit work, divination, healing (reiki and other modalities) and studying different spiritual paths and blending them into my practice if they feel right to me. Kind of a like John Constantine. Huge video game and anime fan!

Have you found it hard to date as a magic practitioner?

Do you feel like it is uncomfortable trying to talk with a potential partner about your craft?

That is a really awesome question. I think when I first came out when I was around 19; I had moved away from my home town for college. There I didn't really mention my spiritual practices other than to like minded friends.

But now instead of hiding that, after leaving a really crappy relationship (that I stayed in for way too long), I am of the thought process, that my craft is part of who I am. I don't hide it anymore (I used to, but that was a self confidence issue which I have worked on and still am working on). So when potential dates ask about my spiritual practices I tell them that I am pagan or a witch, all kind of depends on the vibes that they give off. I have a triple moon tattoo on my left forearm. Which while I think it is beautiful, it does bring that question up. I don't find it difficult since a lot of the guys that I would be attracted to are open minded or are spiritual themselves.

I also am a hermit XD and I do not really go out much. But that is more for personal reasons, not so much due to my craft or anything. I think being a magical practitioner as you gain confidence and build upon your own self worth. You tend to tolerate less bullshit from others. So, maybe in that way, yes I think that it would be hard to date as a magical practitioner. And also being a demi-sexual doesn't help make it any easier XD

Thank you for the thought provoking question

Poseidon

Greek God of the Sea

Poseidon was a god of the sea, earthquakes, storms, and horses and is considered one of the most bad-tempered, moody and greedy Olympian gods. He was known to be vengeful when insulted.

He is the son of Cronus and Rhea and was swallowed by his father along with HADES, DEMETER, HESTIA, and HERA. However, in some folklore stories, it is believed that Poseidon, like ZEUS, was not swallowed by Cronus because his mother Rhea who concealed him among a flock of lambs and pretended to have given birth to a colt, which was devoured by CRONUS instead.

After the gods defeated the Titans, the world was divided into three and Zeus, Hades and Poseidon drew straws to decide which they would rule. Zeus drew the skies, Hades the underworld, and Poseidon the seas. There is only one reference to this divide, by Homer in the Iliad.

Facts about Poseidon

  • Poseidon was most notably the God of the sea and the protector of all waters; sailors relied upon him for safe passage.
  • Poseidon was allotted his dominion after the fall of the Titans.
  • Zeus and Hades were his brothers.
  • It stands to reason that, because of his influence on the waters, he was worshipped in connection with navigation.
  • Poseidon was worshipped as a fertility god.
  • His name is Greek for “husband.”
  • He wielded the trident or three-pronged spear, and this image of him is reflected in art.
  • Poseidon could strike the ground with his trident to produce an earthquake. This earned him the nickname “Earth-shaker.”
  • Poseidon possessed a palace, made of gems and coral, located on the ocean floor. He was at Mount Olympus more often than his palace.
  • Poseidon was moody by nature: his temperament was unstable at best, and his emotional fluctuations often resulted in violence.
  • He was similar to Zeus in that he liked to exert power over women and flaunt his rugged masculinity. At times, however, his efforts were appreciated. Poseidon saved Amymone from a satyr.
  • His primary means of transportation was a chariot pulled by horses.
  • Poseidon assisted the Greeks in the Trojan war. However, Zeus commanded him to withdraw from the battlefield, and he reluctantly obeyed.
  • His grudge against Odysseus is one theme in the Odyssey.
  • Poseidon was the husband of Amphitrite, a Nereid. Their union produced TRITON, who was half-human, half-fish.
  • He and Medusa conceived the FLYING HORSE, PEGASUS – one of many MYTHOLOGICAL CREATURES.
  • He was also the biological father of Orion, Polyphemus, Pelias, and many others.
  • One of his most notable dalliances involved his sister Demeter. She refused his advances by turning herself into a mare. He then transformed into a stallion and pursued her. Their relations produced a horse, Arion.
  • He and Athena competed for possession of the city of Athens. To sway the people in his favor, Poseidon made it spring at the Acropolis. Athena, on the other hand, gave them the olive tree. With it, she won the contest.
  • Despite Poseidon’s connection to chariots and ships, Athena was the first to make one of each.

Hymn to Poseidon

“I begin to sing about Poseidon, the great god, mover of the earth and fruitless sea, god of the deep who is also lord of Helicon and wide Aegae. A two-fold office the gods allotted you, O Shaker of the Earth, to be a tamer of horses and a savior of ships!Hail, Poseidon, Holder of the Earth, dark-haired lord! O blessed one, be kindly in heart and help those who voyage in ships!”

Prayer to Poseidon

I call to Poseidon, great god of the seas, fond husband of ocean-dwelling Amphitrite, son of ancient Kronos and wild-hearted Rhea, I beseech you this day/night to come forth and bear witness to my rite and heed my warning.

Your waters are being polluted and the children of your realm are being persecuted near to extinction, especially those sea creatures that you hold dear to thine heart. In this, I beseech thee to hold aloft thine trident in rage and strike down those who do your children harm for the sake of their own benefits for it is those sailors and fishermen who are the cause of the injustice inflicted upon your children.

Dark-haired Poseidon, to you the waters of the world obey those briny depths that brought us all into life; Poseidon, maker, and master of horses, trident-bearer, earth-shaker, lord of the beasts of the deep, lord of the thrashing waves, sea-god, show those who do your creatures harm no mercy.

Hail to you Mighty Poseidon Lord of all the waters and Oceans of Gaia may all those who suffer, suffer no more and find peace and serenity within your watery realm.

Hail to you Lord Poseidon
