yeah the wizard of oz is explicitly American, as the original book was written as a social commentary/allegory on the fight over whether the US monetary system should be based in the gold standard (yellow brick road) or the silver standard (silver slippers - changed to ruby for movie magic,) and every character, especially the wizard, are in fact thinly veiled representations of political figures involved in the fight.
