What do you think about Frozen? Frankly, I don't get the hype, but my friends are all obsessed with it. Still.
Well, I’m not very much into fandom, and generally speaking I only get the edges of it when people explode over something. From what I understand, most of the problems with Frozen are with how much undeserved fangasming it’s getting, and since I haven’t paid much attention to that I’m just sort of “meh?”
I liked the movie, but I don’t think it’s really breaking any barriers. I think my favorite criticism of Frozen boiled down to “it tries to elevate itself by making fun of the stereotype of a Disney film, while ignoring movies that don’t fit the joke, so that it only has to put one toe over the progressive line to look better in comparison.” I think that’s pretty apt.
I’m still gonna sing along with Let It Go every time it comes up, though.
Another problem with Frozen is that it took a fairy tale with a shitton of female characters, cut out most of them, and added male characters instead. Granted, it also cut out one male character that was there originally, but... seriously. Why did Christoph have to be there? To make sure that the girl not be left ALONE after deconstruction of Prince Charming, lest this accidentally become ALSO a deconstruction of the /actual/ Disney formula of boy+girl?
