Meme redrawing turned into a funny episode! It even seemed to me that this could actually happen in their story!! Major so proud of his student 💕
'The training'
If you can, can you explain metaltango? I never understood the hype or how it works (relationship wise)
I mean, the ship is going to be different to everyone since people write it in different ways and have differing opinions on their dynamics, how they work, the structure of their relationship, etc.
For me, I see it as a "forbidden love" type of thing. It definitely wasn't the best relationship given the circumstances, but I don't think it was bad bad either. Being stuck on a military base with limited contact outside (smart phones were not a thing then and he was in special forces training, he's not going to get to go off-base a whole lot), I'm sure Leon was lonely/bored/however you'd like to describe it. He was also 21, having only lived 3 years as an adult, when he started his training so he didn't really have a whole lot of time to figure himself out or do the things that most 21-year-olds/20 somethings do during that period of their lives. I think him and Krauser were close, both repressed their sexualities for various reasons (Leon slowly coming to the realization that he was queer and Krauser having known but having to hide that part of himself since DADT was in place and he was a high-ranking officer), and had a secret relationship at some point.
The "evidence" for the ship mainly comes from their interactions. In the remake, Krauser calls Leon "pretty boy" which was pretty much exclusively used as an insult for feminine/queer men then (it has different connotations now) and also comments on Leon's "pretty blue" eyes. It's just... interesting to see one man character talk about how pretty another is and comment on his eyes and call him pretty boy of all things (yes, Krauser was intending to try to get under his skin, but it's an interesting choice never the less). Krauser also kept and carried a picture of Leon around with him for some unexplained reason.
The fight between them both in the original and the remake is also very interesting. There's a scene in the original where Leon is on his back with his legs spread, and Krauser is framed between his legs. It likely doesn't really mean anything, but the framing is funny all things considered. The fight in the remake is equally as homoerotic with Krauser slashing the inside of Leon's thigh, pretty high up on his leg in what could possibly be seen as kinda intimate, and during the game play segments, Krauser can grab Leon by the hair and drag him around. Then there's the ending sequence between them where Leon has to stab Krauser in the heart to kill him, tipping his head back with his lip quivering as it fades to black (signalling that he was crying or otherwise near tears)-- it's just rather symbolic with the whole "being forced to kill someone you once cared about and doing so with their own knife that you drive into their heart" thing.
There's also the framing of some shots and the dialogue in Operation Javier. One of the first scenes of them together is a shot from Leon's POV that pans up over Krauser's, and since it's meant to be Leon's view, it makes it look like he's checking Krauser out. Whether or not it was intentional-- and I'm not sure how that wouldn't be-- it's still funny and once again, an interesting choice. There's also a scene where Leon jokes about them holding hands and one where Krauser has to give Leon mouth to mouth.
Long story short, the ship has been around for a while and a lot of people, including myself, just enjoy their interactions, especially in RE4R.

Day 2 - 2 Years for @kreonweek
I've already talk about Leon's lip wobble after he killed Krauser, but I've really been pouring over the freecam scenes, and I noticed something else. When Leon kills Krauser, when he brings the knife up and plunges it into Krauser's chest, he has his eyes closed.
He doesn't seem to open his eyes until the blade is already in Krauser's chest and even then, he doesn't look at Krauser, he's looking beyond him.
It isn't until the knife sinks all the way in and there's absolutely no going back, it's definitely a fatal wound for Krauser, that it looks like he's actually able to look at him, and then he immediately stands up and stumbles back and looks at his reflection in the blade covered in Krauser's blood.
We really can't see this with the in-game footage due to the cuts and the angle, but looking at it with the freecam is so cool 'cause there's so many more little details that we get to see.
some of my resident evil 4 actor au (more parts to come!!)
The time has finally come for the visual analysis on Operation Javier (Darkside Chronicles) Leon. For those unaware, Operation Javier was a playable story which was part of the Darkside Chronicles Wii game from 2009.

An interesting little thing that I was thinking about last night was how Leon wasn't just dropped into military training, he was dropped into special forces military training. The AUPIT was a special operations team, which falls under special forces, and was part of STRATCOM. And since Krauser was the one who trained Leon, I doubt they're going to have Krauser-- a seemingly decorated Major heading a spec ops team-- be training new recruits at basic, so I'd imagine they probably just turned Leon lose in special forces training with the expectation that he'd catch up since he'd already survived Raccoon City, something they were training this team to be able to do.
So that means that the rest of the team all had fairly extensive military training already, and along comes this long-haired 21-year-old with no prior military experience at all who clearly doesn't want to be there. You have to have completed Basic Combat Training, Advanced Individual Training (AIT), and U.S. Army Airborne School before you're even eligible for special forces training so Leon was undoubtedly in hell. That generally takes over a year to complete so Leon was already an entire year behind but expected to be on a team with everyone else. And it doesn't look like they made him go through all of the prior training first (meaning instead of making him do all of that separately, he picked up everything that was taught there from Krauser) since the flashback shows him with only slightly longer hair than post-re2 so it's likely only a matter of months (factoring in the time it'd take for his shoulder to heal well enough for him to be able to do training) between the end of RE2 and when he's dropped in special forces training.
I feel like this definitely contributes to the "the training nearly killed me" aspect he mentions in RE4R since military training is already hell on earth but being a year behind in training that you never wanted while also having somewhat recently recovered from a GSW to the shoulder and being heavily traumatized... holy shit. And all of that on top of likely being ridiculed by the rest of the team. Leon was already an outlier since he had no prior experience, yet he got a guaranteed spot on a special team, he got to keep his hair long too and seemingly got special attention from Krauser. And with the guy in charge calling him pretty boy I can't imagine what the rest of the team would be saying.
Anyway, this is just my ramble. None of this is probably ever going to be acknowledged in canon but it was something I was thinking about the other day and I enjoy the angst so there you have it, that's my interpretation of the "behind the scenes" stuff between late 1998 and 2002 in canon.
