one trope that no one seems to be talking about is manipulative alfred. he’s a world power with an extremely high gdp, he’s the rebellious son and heir of one of the largest empires in the old world, he’s arguably one of the world’s strongest countries in defence with socio-culture, music, fashion and trends being broadcasted worldwide from mcdonald’s to fashion houses. and you’re telling me this man is simply a little dummy who is obsessed with superhero’s and aliens and eats fast food all day long? for me personally, alfred is an extremely manipulative person who is very morally grey. he’s the epitome of “ends justify the means” and will not hesitate to do what it takes to achieve his goals. he can switch his personality to whatever fits the situation or person. he’s not necessarily bad but simply unconcerned and self-serving. the key difference i’d see with alfred versus someone like arthur is while arthur commands loyalty by fear alfred instead commands loyalty by kindness. he knows that kindness produces loyalty the same way fear does and will not hesitate to exploit this. alfred’s kind, he’s fun and he’s friendly and (seemingly) dumb because he knows this is what benefits him in the end.
