Tumblngs of KJ

@lifeofkj / lifeofkj.tumblr.com

Hello! I am KJ, and this is my Tumblr. You may also know me as Owlmoose. Here you will find cute animals, fandomy things (mostly Critical Role, Dragon Age, and Marvel these days, but some Final Fantasy as well, plus other things that catch my fancy), and political stuff. Unrepentant liberal and feminist.

no but let’s review some of the reasons mcu maria hill should be more popular.

  • by the time she was twenty-five or twenty-six she already had a high enough position at shield to send letters ‘from the office of maria hill.’
  • by her late twenties/early thirties, she was the deputy director of shield and fury’s second in command.
  • in the winter soldier, she saved steve and natasha and sam. i think we forget that natasha would have bled out and died if maria hadn’t rescued them. y’know, unless hydra had executed her and steve and sam before she reached that point.
  • also in the winter soldier, she was an essential part of bringing shield down. (and let’s not forget that “but steve” moment, okay? if steve had died she would have been the woman that killed captain america.)
  • before age of ultron, she was working at stark industries, managing the avengers, and keeping an eye on coulson and his team. name one other person in the entire mcu who could do that.
  • she was barefoot during the stark tower fight and afterward she just casually sits there picking glass out of her feet. and then she’s back in her heels the next day.
  • not to be completely shallow, but come on, she’s gorgeous.

sorry, i just absolutely adore this character.

Rewatching TWS has had me thinking about Maria Hill again. Because when it comes down to it, she’s the one who has to make the decision to destroy the helicarriers. She’s the one who pushes the button, despite the obvious pain it causes her. She makes the most important decision of the movie in a split second. If Steve had died…she would have carried that with her for the rest of her life.

It makes me wonder how much the two of them interacted before this? Was she the one who gave him his mission briefings or was that Fury or Natasha? Did they have their own in-jokes like:

“A nice day for political unrest, Agent Hill?” “Isn’t it always, Captain Rogers?”

“I saw you watching the new recruits, Captain. Care to share your thoughts?” “Nothing gets past you, does it Agent?” “Are you surprised?” “Are we going to keep talking in questions?” “Are you going to tell me what you think of the recruits?”

“You ruined your uniform again, Rogers. You know the logistics department hounds me for it.” “This coming from the woman who has a bullet in her shoulder. Now shut up and try to keep from bleeding out, Hill.”

Did they share shitty cold coffee at 3am, waiting for the next mission briefing? Did they try to beat each other’s high score at the shooting range? Did they roll their eyes at Fury together?

Because don’t forget that before Maria pushes the button, she calls him Steve. Not Captain. Not Rogers.

“But Steve…”

There’s history in that phrase and I want to know what it is.

I <3 Maria Hill.

I kind of resent the suggestion that there would be something inherent about superheroes that wouldn’t be of interest to women…. There’s nothing inherently masculine about power fantasies. There’s nothing inherently masculine about superhero comics. There’s nothing inherently masculine about mythology. About science fiction. There is no reason that a woman who is interested in this field as a reader or creator should feel that she is peculiar in any way.

Every ten year-old enemy soldier Thinks falling bombs are shooting stars sometimes But she doesn’t make wishes on them When she wishes, she wishes for less ways to wish for More ways to work toward it Ten year-old enemy soldier Our falling bombs are her shooting stars
