Used to be larger but the rest of it’s in the British museum now.
Reminder that Stonewall wasn’t about marriage equality. Stonewall was about police brutality. It was about systemic abuse and subordination. Stonewall was spearheaded by black trans women. As we celebrate Pride 2020, within the context of the Black Lives Matter riots, it’s imperative that we remember that.
Riots in protest of police brutality are the reason that we have more rights today. Do not forget your roots.
You can’t celebrate Pride while simultaneously condemning the Black Lives Matter riots and protests that are happening right now. Know your history.
WAYS TO SUPPORT/BE AN ALLY
Here is a compilation of places to donate (IF you can, simply reblogging and sharing this can help) and petition to sign. I found these websites and organizations on twitter.
DONATIONS
- THE MINNESOTA FREEDOM FUND: Donate to this to collect funds to pay jail bonds for the protesters who get arrested.
- BLACK LIVES MATTER: An organization fighting for the BLM movement. Donate if you can.
- BLACK VISIONS MN: an organization that is led by Black, Queer and Trans people. Donate if you can.
- NAACP Legal Defense Fund: Fights for the overall equality fight. Donate if you can.
PETITIONS
- Willie Simmons has spent 38 years in prison for a $9 robbery. He had two prior convictions similar to robbery that he served time for. He was prosecuted under the Alabama Habitual Offender law and was given a life sentence for his third strike - stealing 9 (NINE) dollars. Sign his petition.
- Breonna Taylor was killed by police who were conducting an UNANNOUNCED drug raid, where they gave no request to enter. They bashed her door and entered, shooting her EIGHT times. They were in the WRONG HOUSE.
- George Floyd was killed by a police officer who knelt on his neck and suffocated him to death, after George pleaded with the officer and told him he couldn’t breathe. The officer had pulled him from where he sat in his car on an alleged FORGERY. You can also text “FLOYD” to 55156
- ARREST THE OFFICERS WHO KILLED GEORGE FLOYD: The main police officer who murdered George is being kept in PROTECTIVE CUSTODY. You probably have heard he was arrested, but this is NOT TRUE. He was placed under PROTECTIVE custody because of the riots and “threats” on his life.
If you know of ANY other organizations or petitions, PLEASE ADD TO THIS LIST. The fight for justice doesn’t end here, it will never end. Especially when the president of the United States calls white supremacists good people and protesters of a mans death THUGS. USE YOUR VOICE. NO JUSTICE, NO PEACE. FUCK COPS. FUCK “BLUE LIVES”. ALL BLACK LIVES MATTER!
the minnesota freedom fund is asking folks to donate to other organizations instead. the specific ones they listed are black visions, linked above, and these two:
- northstar health collective, organized healthcare professionals working with anti-authoritarian groups
- reclaim the block, a collective that aims to redistribute funding away from police and towards more community-oriented projects in minneapolis
these are the links i send to my facebook friends who keep running their mouths about “the protests hurting the community”
- minnehaha food shelf & calvary church food shelf are both centered in the south minneapolis area where the riots started. the grocery stores in the area have been decimated, so food shelves and food insecurity charities need a lot of love right now.
- northside funders group is a philanthropic group in the twin cities that’s using all its funds right now for helping local businesses
- migizi is a native american media/history nonprofit whose office was destroyed in the riots
- we love lake street is devoting funds specifically towards rebuilding the lake street area in south minneapolis
some more groups that could use your help
- the healing justice foundation is a national nonprofit that’s specifically focusing on mental health resources for bipoc right now
- ctul is a nonprofit focused on low-wage workers and workers rights in minnesota
- mpd 150 is focused on policing and specifically trying to reroute the conversation from “we need to change police procedures” to “the police need structural reform”
- the spiral collective is providing funds for supplies, medic kits, and other things that protesters will need on the ground
- unicorn riot is a media collective that has had people on the ground filming every night in minneapolis
community justice national exchange has a list of bail funds in the whole country - these are NOT protest specific but you can always take a look and see what’s in your area
if you want protest-specific bail funds
It’s okay if you’re unable to participate in protests in March but above are links where you can donate and still support the BLM Movement.
Disney Wants Your Stuff. (No, I’m serious, they literally say you own the copyright to your fanwork until they say that THEY own it, i.e. Welcome to the new Disney TOS, Baby.
First up, the link, so chill already: https://disneytermsofuse.com/ Your relevant and terrifying passage(s) are the entirety of Section 7. Go read it. I’ll wait.
Now. First thing to understand is that the legal language within the new TOS *implies* that Disney is only referring to people who use its services, people who clicked and agreed to this new TOS. But it’s implication only. That’s not what this TOS actually says.
This TOS spends a lot of time defining fanworks, or as they call it, User Generated Content.
They want to make it clear that,
a) You totally have the right to make User Generated Content (UGC) all you want.
b) You can put that UGC anywhere you want, whether they own the site or someone else does. What matters is that you’ve put that UGC in a publically accessible place…like, oh, AO3.
c) Disney spends a few breaths saying that the creator of the UGC owns the copyright to that UGC…except if you read those words carefully, they’re not guaranteeing you anything, because THEY own the copyright.
d) Disney then says, since they own the copyright to your UGC, they can literally do anything they want with it. They can steal it, crib it, use the entire thing as their own, make money off of it, reprint it, ANYTHING–and you do not get credit. You do not get paid. You do not get acknowledgement. You might get a DMCA telling you take down your UGC because it is now *their* content that they’re selling and how dare you steal from them. (No, I’m not kidding.)
e) Nobody seems to know a fucking thing about this.
f) The bullshit on Twitter over May the Fourth was just a smokescreen, sorry. https://www.theverge.com/2020/4/28/21238909/disney-star-wars-maythe4th-hashtag-copyright-contract-twitter
Disney doesn’t want your Tweets. They just wanted to see who was paying attention, and how, and if they could get away with it. (Yes, they did go after someone who reposted Disney’s own tweets. No more information on that yet.)
g) Yes, you should absolutely take this seriously. You should be terrified, because how many fan content creators have the bank to fight this if their “copyrighted content” that Disney specifies is still *their* copyrighted content is stolen? OTW exists for this very reason, but this is fucking Disney. They. Own. Almost. Everything. In. The. Corporate. United. States. Entertainment. Industry.
h) No, your MCU, Star Wars, Pixar, Disney animated films, ANY such fanworks, are not safe. If Disney likes it, they will take it. If you say they can’t, they’ll point to their new site-wide TOS and say that they can. Is that legal? Don’t actually know, but think about who’s in the White House right now. Think about who he’d support. Yes, the Library of Congress and the House of Reps are supposed to be in charge, but how long until we could push for them to deal with/fix this shit?
i) Yes, Disney is probably trying to steal content in order to survive the pandemic, seeing as their major sources of revenue (parks and movies) aren’t happening right now.
j) Yes, I will be removing my Star Wars content. I didn’t work on that fucking story for nearly 20 years just for some corporate shill to fucking steal it.
k) Someone who currently wishes to remain anonymous has pinged an OTW peep to see if they’re aware.
l) If they weren’t so specific to point out that they really do mean Any Public Place, I wouldn’t be so concerned…but it doesn’t. This isn’t just about their services. This is about the entire fucking internet.
That’s it. You guys now know everything I know, so no, I wouldn’t be able to answer any of your questions. I suggest spreading the word, if only so someone else with more information can step up and reassure us that Disney can’t do what they believe they can do…
…but it’s fucking DISNEY. They nearly destroyed Public Domain in the United States over fucking Mickey Mouse a hundred years ago. Do you really think they’re going to say, “Oh, sorry, our bad” about this?

The sign of high quality is the fact the book was banned by the government. Trash literature NEVER EVER had any troubles with the law.
FARENHEIT 451 IS ON THE BANNED BOOKS LIST??? IT’S LITERALLY ABOUT THE SOCIETAL DANGERS OF BANNING/OUTLAWING/BURNING BOOKS ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME
That’s the reason it’s on the bloody list.
BECAUSE IT’S ABOUT HOW BANNING AND BURNING BOOKS IS WRONG.
HERE’S ALL THE PDF VERSIONS I COULD FIND SINCE WE’RE ALL IN QUARANTINE AND WE CAN’T PHYSICALLY GET THE BOOKS WE DON’T HAVE
Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee (this was the only free version I could find, and it’s a downloadable thing, so do so with caution)
Catch-22 (it was either this version or one where the entire thing was in comic sans font)
The Jungle (personally I don’t like this formatting, but the site doesn’t look sketchy so…) - there’s also this which is the proper book format in a pdf, but it’s directly photocopied so it might be hard to read some of the print
Our Bodies, Ourselves (we learned about this one in APUSH!)
COULD NOT FIND Sexual Behavior in the Human Male (the ebook is 47 fucking dollars??? and i can’t even find sketchy websites that’ll let me download a pdf. if anyone manages to find a link, lmk please)
Where the Wild Things Are (this is a slideshow!!!! how fun)
COULD NOT FIND The Words of Cesar Chavez (however I did manage to download the first 71 pages of the book from EBSCO and I put it here but I couldn’t get the rest. sorry y’all)
!!! I’m gonna download all of these!!! Tysm op!! Also, Farenheit 451 is pretty damn good. Got it from my library a few months ago
This isn’t LGBTQ related directly. But this is a human issue, which means it’s an us issue. Read banned books. Be gay, do crimes, go against the system that has decided books like these are a problem instead of an answer.

[Image description - Images of a demiromantic, demisexual, polyamory, nonbinary, bi, intersex, rainbow, lesbian, pan and trans pride flag with the text: I deserve respect. End description.]
transphobia isn’t feminism.
Fun fact! Trans people and, by extension, the concept of multiple genders exist cross culturally: from the Hijra of South Asia (whose earliest written record dates back to the 3rd Century AD) to the Māhū of Hawai’i to the Two-Spirit of North America (like the Navajo nádleehí or the Inuit sipiniq) to the Sekrata of the sakalavas from Madagascar to even the 5 gender structure of the Bugis from South Sulawesi Indonesia.
If your feminism is limited to the western binary system (that was initially brought into full in the 1400’s) then you are not only ignoring the existence of non-binary systems that exist across the world but you are furthering and perpetuating colonialist thoughts and beliefs.
Trans people have always existed.

Please Reblog is Your Blog is Safe for Non-Binary People.
Hey um, the 2019 Intersex Inclusion Survey is mainly being circulated in TERF circles right now, which I feel like I shouldn’t have to explain is uh… Bad? So please take it! Please circulate it! Share it on and off Tumblr!
You don’t have Intersex or LGBTQ+ to take it!
hey all- if you can, fill this out! It’s super quick and the idea of the results being skewed because of a shit sample is killing my lil research-brain.
Don’t let the TERF’s takeover
friendly reminder thered be no pride month if it wasnt for the hard work of trans woc
can i reblog this post
happy black history month im bringing this post back
If a person who identifies as female at the time goes to a women’s college, but later while attending finds out that they actually identify as transgender male, are they allowed to continue attending the school if they want to if they begin transitioning to male?
Lee says:
If you’re already in college, you should look at the particular policy of your school- it isn’t universal!
Most women’s colleges seem to allow trans men to continue attending the school to graduation if they applied as women and didn’t realize they were trans men until after they became a student there.
Can I go to a women’s college if I’m….
A cis man
- No, you can’t apply to a woman’s college if you’re a cis man.
A trans man
- No, you usually aren’t allowed to apply to a woman’s college if you’re a man, especially if you’ve legally changed your gender marker to male.
- But- some women’s colleges will allow you to apply if you were assigned female at birth, so that leaves the door open to you in some situations.
- If you applied to a women’s college and enrolled before you knew you were a man, you are often allowed to continue, so if you’re already there and really attached to the school then you might not have to transfer to somewhere else.
Non-binary
- You can apply to some women’s colleges if you’re non-binary, even if you’re assigned male at birth- check on their websites first!
- If you’re assigned female at birth and don’t identify as male, you are likely allowed to apply.
- If you’re already enrolled in a women’s college, you can continue attending.
A cis woman
- Yes, you can apply to all women’s colleges if you’re a cis woman.
A trans woman
- You can apply to the vast majority of women’s colleges now- check on their website!
- You couldn’t enroll at a women’s college before you knew you were a woman so you may not have applied to one originally, but if you know now it’s probably possible for you to transfer to a women’s college and attend it.
Should I apply to a woman’s college if I’m….
A cis man
- No, you shouldn’t apply to a woman’s college if you’re a cis man.
A trans man
- While some women’s colleges may let you in since you’re AFAB, you probably shouldn’t apply if you know you’re a man because it isn’t a space meant for you.
- If you decide to go stealth in the future, when you have to apply to jobs you’d need to disclose you went to a women’s college which would out you as trans, and that might come up in conversation with peers.
Non-binary
- Maybe? This depends on your comfort level about the situation.
- Being in a women’s college when you’re not a woman might feel invalidating and make you dysphoric since they’re obviously female-centric.
- Other people you encounter will assume you’re a woman since you attend a women’s school which may mean you get misgendered more.
- It’s a woman’s college and you aren’t a woman, but some are expanding to include nb people.
- Women’s colleges may be more LGBT-friendly than the average school, so that’s a bonus.
A cis woman
- If you like the environment of an all-women’s college, go for it!
- Of course you also have the option of co-ed colleges though- women aren’t required to attend women’s only school if they don’t want to.
A trans woman
- This is really up to you!
- If you want to go stealth at some point, applying to jobs saying you were at a woman’s college might help tip people’s thoughts about your gender
- You may encounter some TERFs, yes, but you also will encounter some really friendly women and form lasting friendships
- Co-ed colleges are also an option if they’re LGBT friendly, but you’re a woman, so you can choose to do whichever you want.
What are the college-stated guidelines for….
- Smith College
- Barnard College
- Bryn Mawr College
- Cedar Crest College
- Mills College
- Mount Holyoke College
- Simmons College
- Scripps College
- Wellesley College
- Here is an article with info on other schools: Can transgender students go to women’s colleges? Across the country, the answer is evolving.
Other advice:
Some schools are more LGBT friendly than others, so check Campus Pride’s page Everything you need to know about finding the best LGBTQ college for you which includes things like ask random students if they think the school is LGBT-friendly if you visit, check to see if they have any LGBT clubs or spaces, ask if they have gender neutral bathrooms, look into what the preferred name policy is, etc.
I personally identify as non-binary and transmasculine, and I decided to go to Sarah Lawrence College (I’m in the class of 2020) and SLC is a co-ed school that used to be a women’s college and it’s pretty non-binary friendly!
Followers, if you want to add on with more info or your experiences, please do!

meta-mish said: As someone who went to a women’s college, I’d say at least check them out for the culture. We did have many male students on campus due to legal reasons (nursing programs and other health related programs are required to allow men under circumstances) and adult learners who take undergrad classes. Also, women’s colleges might be more safe than some others or at least have a large LGBT presence on campus with associated friendly professors and staff. I particuarly was out as nb but I had a few friends who were genderfluid who just felt safer and more comfortable at the women’s college
hephaestusgodofrobots said: Hello! I’m a cis straight woman going to a college near Cedar Crest College and know many students at CCC. As far as I can tell they are very welcoming and are quite proud of their LGBT services. Just wanted to leave a note. I hope you have a wonderful day.
