My thoughts on "In Love and War and Politics"
Let me preface this by saying that I don’t speak about fanfiction the way that I do because I believe my opinions are somehow superior to anyone else’s. It’s just that I was introduced to fanfiction by way of incredible writing that did not read like that of an amateur. And that’s what most fic writers are, amateurs who write for the fun of it, and I’m grateful. I love fanfiction, however when it comes to Clexa, my standards are far higher that just “good.” You see, I turned to fanfiction because I wasn’t getting enough on screen and it was a way to explore the characters in a way the show wasn’t. With Clexa, their on screen dynamic – and the great portrayals by the actors – didn’t leave me with much to be desired, I was more than satisfied with their storyline (up until a certain point but let’s not get into that). What a unique love story, one that was 97 years in the making. Clarke literally fell from the sky and fell in love with the ruler of the ground. You can’t beat that with a bat. So when it comes to reading other’s interpretations of them, I’m quite picky. But what’s normally lacking for me in other’s fics, is executed flawlessly by the author of In Love and War and Politics.
