the thing that explains most villain likers (contra the expected notion of "they're just mean/morally corrupt/secretly nazis") is the simple fact that the underdog story is traditionally very popular in modern culture. and what it comes down to is: would you rather identify with the little guy, the loser, who has nothing? or the big powerful motherfucker who stays winning for 90% of the story?
this choice says a lot about someone's personality, but it doesn't say any of the things people think it does.
