the fact that that NEW thing is still there on the stupid marketplace thing even when you click it is deeply annoying to me
ugh i have a new computer which means i need to reconfigure xkit but i’m Lazy so now i have blank sponsored posts thanks to my ad blocker i forgot that was a thing
ugh i actually quite like new tumblr bc the darkmode is bomb and i actually like the new features but i gotta go back bc xkit doesn’t work and that tagviewer is absolutely V I T A L
just cleared out who i’m following and it’s sad how many people i used to talk to regularly haven’t been active for years. i mean, good for them for getting off this hellsite but it makes me feel nostalgic.
also makes me wonder how many of my followers are long gone. i’ve been on tumblr a long while, so i’d guess a majority of them.
it’s so weird what posts decide to suddenly revive themselves after years.
i have a few popular posts
one always revives itself around the holidays
one randomly revives itself (but it’s a trans positive one so that’s nice)
and then you get posts that have had maybe 50 notes for 5 years that suddenly get hundreds of notes
tumblr is weird
Interview and transcript of a conversation with the new owner of tumblr
Glad they keeping the employees but
Alert! You've reblogged 100 posts today, would you like to upgrade to our Premium Blogger package to continue?
So they decided to completely destroy Tumblr and lose all users it seems. What platform are we jumping onto lads, because if that happens, I legitimately won't be able to afford to stay on Tumblr, nor will I want to stay for that matter. To think I used to adore this site and looked forward to posting on it every day...
I think this is a bit alarmist. It’s not like Wordpress charges you to make posts. It’s more like you get charged for certain functionality - the issue is that Wordpress is often run by business and Tumblr isn’t, so I don’t know how they would make their premium content appealing to most users. It’s the add-ons you would be charged for, but fuck knows what those add-ons would be at this point.
I’m certainly not against the idea of e-commerce functionality, I think that would be great for original content creators. Being able to do things like tip creators straight through tumblr isn’t a terrible idea.
entry level tumblr following people who share similar interests with you advanced level tumblr following people and having no idea what they’re talking about 90% of the time but just enjoying their presence because you consider them friends by now
logoffprotest has ended so i am back
tumblr: still has rampant porn bots and a nazi problem
tumblr staff: i know what will make everything better
uh. is it just me... or did tumblr just get.... bluer?
okay if you want to actually know what to look out for as a minor in online spaces, it’s not whether or not someone puts their age in their bio, that’s performative
i don’t want to make out like every adult is Bad and conversations between minors and adults can’t happen, because interactions between people of different generations are Important, especially in minority communities
HOWEVER
you want to be looking out for people that are trying to interact with minors, as in going out of their way to do so. people that are weirdly invested in interacting with minors. predators spread their nets far and wide, and they’re interested in getting into conversations with minors, especially 1-2-1 and DMing.
it might seem ‘friendly’, but if an adult is trying to press you for some personal contact info, your snapchat, your discord, whatever - that’s a Concern. that’s something to look out for. they might seem totally harmless, but listen
as an adult, i’m open to having conversations with minors (and i think it’s important to have conversations with people of all ages), but i’m never gonna DM someone i know is a minor first, i’m not going to approach them, and i’m neverrrr going to ask them for contact information off this website. never. never going to happen. that’s not normal behaviour from an adult. that’s the kind of shit you should be wary of. adults that are trying too hard to be your friend. don’t trust adults that do this.
You should keep your age in your description. Some minors may be comfortable interacting with a 20 year old adult, but not an adult that's older. It would be respectful of you to at least put a range of maybe three years that your age could fall under if you do not wish to share it explicitly (for example, a 25 year old saying "i'm an adult, 25-27"). That would be a good way to make your blog safe for minors.
This is not going to help keep minors safe from internet predators, it’s just grandstanding and could even potentially be used as a tool by actual predators (who would just lie). If a minor doesn’t want to follow this blog then don’t! I’m not making you! You have to click the follow button! If interacting with an adult makes you uncomfortable, just don’t do it!
Having someone’s age in their blog description isn’t going to tell you if they’re safe to interact with or not.
Tbh if someone online isn’t a minor and they don’t tell you their exact age and just say something like “I’m in my 20s” that shit should send up some red flags because if you’re a minor there’s a big difference between being approached by someone who’s 20 and someone who’s 29 and if they aren’t willing to be completely transparent about their age but still wanna interact with minors you fuckin stay away from them yall keep yourselves safe okay
Also, @ the folks on tumblr my age or older: if someone tells u they’re a minor they have no obligation to tell you their exact age. If they say they’re a minor and they don’t want you following/reblogging/interacting with them because of your age, you fucking respect that. “it’s not our job to keep kids safe” as adults actually it kinda fucking is you creeps
100% agree with the second part.
difficult to parse the first part, because what do you mean by ‘approach’? private discussions, yes, absolutely. i’m open to having conversations with minors, i think it’s important for these conversations to happen where they’re welcome, but i’m very much of the opinion that i let people come to me and not the other way around. if they want my advice/my opinion, that’s something they can ask for, and a private discussion is different to stumbling across each other and having a fleeting interaction (like/reblog etc.) on a social media platform
adults have a reasonable right to privacy as well, i make it clear i’m an adult, but... maybe it’s growing up in the ‘don’t give out personal info on the internet’ generation but i’m not cool with putting my personal information over everything publicly
i also can’t help but wonder if the recent push for everyone to make it publicly clear if they are an adult or a minor makes it easier for actual predators to target minors
i was curious about how long i’ve been on tumblr
this blog has been here for 5 years
my previous blog is 8 years old
i’ll be sad to see tumblr go tbh. end of an era. kinda feel like i grew up on here, even though i started when i was 22
is searching by tags broken???
i was searching the ‘transgender’ tag by ‘most recent’ and it goes to posts from 10 days ago real quick (like within 10-20 posts). or is every post tagged ‘transgender’ being shadowbanned as nsfw by the tumblr censorbot, do you think?`
asynca replied to your post “y’know, despite all adding chat and stuff, i swear tumblr used to be...”
SAME! I just thought it was because I've not been writing as much recently but istg I used to write a 300 word drabble and get 20+ comments on it and even though I get way more notes now, people seem to engage much less.
yeah, i know tumblr has definitely been dying for creators for a while now. people getting a lot of likes, but not a lot of reblogs or comments
tbh ao3 and be a bit like that too. it’s unfortunate, bc whilst i enjoy the view and kudos count tick up, the thing that actually makes me write more are comments
y’know, despite all adding chat and stuff, i swear tumblr used to be way more interactive back about 3 years ago.
or maybe it’s just the fact that i put in more effort back then, idk. my tumblr has been definitely slowly dying, but that’s partially because i go through phases of a month without activity before a flurry of guilt-posting
my follower count hovers around the same, but that’s not good when you know that with a 4-year-old tumblr, a good portion of those are inactive
i had quite a few friends on here a while back that have drifted off, or i’ve lost track of them through blog name changes etc.
