Portrait of Elizabeth Taylor captured by Mark Shaw for the October 15, 1956 cover of LIFE magazine. This story ran concurrent with the release of the film "Giant", which went on to garner several academy awards. Ms. Taylor appeared in the film as Leslie Benedict, the matriarch of a Texas ranching family. The film also starred Rock Hudson and James Dean.
