But Daniel being Armand's only fledgling is only important because he realizes it was a cruel mistake he never wants to do to anyone again. It's why he doesn't turn Sybelle and Benji. All his character development happens in TVA which Daniel isn't in, he only gets mentioned to make Armand's connection to Sybelle and Benji stronger.

I am hoping for DM on the show too but I do think some of you are fooling yourselves about how much Armand cares about Daniel

Not quite. There is also some development in the last books, but it's only mentioned. But it's there. And it's important.

All his development happens in TVA? What?

DM is so pivotal to Armand's character development, I have no idea how they'd do without it on the show.

It's with Daniel that Armand has the space to figure himself out. Experiment with what he wants, what he likes, what his purpose is when there's no one to make one up for him. He becomes more empathetic. Calmer.

There was this...I think it was My Cat from Hell episode, where this cat who grew up without any other cats or kittens around was socially inept, even around humans. He didn't understand biting hurt. Stuff like that. Well, another cat in the house gave birth to kittens, and it was decided to basically use the kittens as remedial social conditioning for the cat. And it worked. The cat essentially grew up along with the kittens, who were able to tell him in cat-language that "that hurts" or "I'm warning you" or "no I'm sleeping now."

Armand was so dehumanized during his human years, then brainwashed into believing himself the lowest sort of being on Earth, he didn't know how to be human towards others. He could mimic the behavior of others, sure, but boundaries? Cognitive empathy? Emotion regulation? What are these? And it's with a human, Daniel, who tells him "Call Paris yourself," that he starts to figure this shit out. He's kind of re-humanized through his experiences with Daniel, almost like re-parentification. It enables him to do the growing he does in later books, including TVA. Gets him through a developmental stage or two.

This can't happen with another vampire. It has to be a human. A human who takes no shit.
