odysseus absolutely does present a threat to penelope if he perceives her as at all unfaithful, and i feel the unfairness of this, and i think people tend to undersell how much tension at least potentially exists between odysseus and penelope. but i'm also like. his reaction, all speculation aside, his actual reaction in the odyssey to her flirting with the suitors is delight, because he immediately ascertains that she is running a con. sorry that they're so in-sync in spite of the forces that try to drive a wedge between them, including their own misgiving hearts. sorry that they invented homophrosyne ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

deanna and data criminally underrated dynamic. woman who feels everyone else's emotions acutely and man who doesn't even think he feels his own. sometimes they meet for 9pm milkshakes and have a conversation so effortlessly profound it makes the ensigns at the next table over rethink their whole lives. then 5 minutes later deanna's teaching data the finer points of how to giggle

The commentary from Jonathan Frakes and Marina Sirtis on the Blu-ray version of "Insurrection" is genuinely one of the funniest things I've listened to.

Highlights include:

  • Marina openly admitting she hasn't watched the movie since the premiere and constantly asking things like "What's that? What's he doing? What's happening?" and Jonathan just patiently explaining the entire plot to her.
  • “And I played Commander Riker, Picard’s big Willy.” -Jonathan introducing himself
  • *regarding the non-regular actors in alien makeup* Jonathan: “They didn’t know what they signed up for.” Marina: “I know, poor things.”
  • constant dragging of their costars throughout.
  • Marina: “Who’s idea was it that Patrick sing?” Jonathan: “Michael Pillar (writer)” Marina: “Really? Had he ever HEARD Patrick sing?”
  • "Patrick managed to get his shirt open again, he's got his guns out."- Jonathan
  • *regarding Worf's Klingon pimple* Marina: "What is that pimple on his face?" Jonathan: "It's a gorch, Marina! Listen to the dialogue!"
  • Calling Picard "Cappy", Brent Spiner "Brento", Worf "Big, dumb, stupid Worf", and F. Murray Abraham "Fmurr"
  • "Lookin' a little shiny there, Patrick. Was it a hot day?"- Marina
  • *silently watching the Son'a ship fly through space* Marina: "...Well that's not the Enterprise."
  • *regarding Data* “He’s so smart. He knows things.”- Jonathan
  • *watching Data emerge from a lake* Marina: "Why's his hair dry?" Jonathan: "He's an android." Marina: "Why's his costume dry?" Jonathan: "He's an android."
  • Jonathan, groaning in disgust at a scene with some children: "This is cloying."
  • Wheezing fits of laughter throughout

If you need a hefty dose of serotonin injected directly into your brain, I highly suggest watching this. Plus, if you listen closely, there are even some interesting tidbits about the production of the movie.

I think the reason so many LOTR ripoffs fail is because they make their Aragorn analogue the main character, when the entire point of Aragorn is that he’s “the person the villains think is the main character, but is Not.”

Aragorn seems like a traditional King Arthur style hero— he has huge Main Character Energy because he’s supported by destiny, by bloodline, by all these magic artifacts and prophecies, and etc etc. Frodo and Sam are Just Some Guys. Aragorn recognizes that Sauron understandably thinks he’s the main hero of this story ….and he pretends to believe it too, spending the entire series using himself as a diversion to prevent Sauron from seeing Frodo and Sam.

Aragorn’s whole thing is that knows he seems like the Main Hero of this legend to people who don’t know better —- but he also knows that he isn’t, and that his role is just to keep Sauron’s eye on him in order to protect the people around him.

And it works! Sauron is so fixated on defeating his Legendary Destined Archenemy with Extreme Main Character Energy that he completely overlooks the two ordinary little guys who were the real threat to him all along.

Thinking of how Legolas began to feel the call of the sea, irresistible and overwhelming, during the quest and yet waited until everyone in the fellowship died before leaving. Except Gimli of course, who he took with him.

He waited decades out of love and friendship.

Thinking about Merry and Pippin buried next to Aragorn.

Thinking about Eomer who called for Merry at the end of his life, to see him one more time before he passed away.

Thinking about Sam who, after Rosie passed away, left Middle Earth to see Frodo one more time before his own death.

Thinking about Legolas and Aragorn singing for Boromir, Merry and Pippin who owe their lives to him praising his deeds and bravery.

Thinking about Gimli, who walked the Path of the Dead out of love of Aragorn and visited Fangorn forest out of love of Legolas.

Thinking about Gandalf, who feels responsible for the heavy burden he placed on Bilbo and Frodo, and who took them with him to Aman, traveling with them one last time to bring them somewhere where they will finally know peace.

The love i have for them.

no because listen. listen. i get that it's horror. it's creepy and scary and bone-chilling and all the adjectives you want.

but.

i am a simple lesbian and the amount of hot women is honestly so fucking unfair. you want me to be afraid of verna while she looks like THAT with her boobs out like constantly??? i was making myself dizzy trying to look at all the hot women at once. incredible. no complaints.

the whole reason why darcy and elizabeth work as a couple is that they're both haters. they are such petty bitches. all they want to do is stand in the corner at the ball snickering at everybody like statler and waldorf. the fact that the nearly insurmountable barrier of elizabeth being from a slightly lower strata of the landed gentry is overcome by their mutual love of snark is just so beautiful to me
