Truth be told, Toshiro constantly being framed as pathetic and a loser in relation to the Farcille ship is starting to bother me. Specifically because it's actually easy to steer into racist territory here. Here in the west, there are a bunch of terrible stereotypes of nonwhite men when it comes to romance and sex. With East Asian men, the ones I heard (and still hear about) regularly growing up is that they're "unmanly", "pathetic", "won't ever satisfy you sexually"- amongst other horrible stuff. And what I've learned over the years of being in different fandoms is that it's very easy for people to apply racial biases on characters whether they realize it or not.

And then combine that with the fact that in general, nonwhite men going after white women is typically not seen as a good thing: these men are easily labeled as predators, while the white women are seen as being in dire need of protection from them. And, well...you have a recipe for disaster, really.

Not at all saying that people can't hate him or be uncomfy by his proposal and such. I'm just suggesting that people be aware of where part of their hate might come from.
