zuko really would just do anything for a cute boy I mean jet is like "hey let's do sword crime" and sokka is like "let's do a prison break" and zuko is just "so true king are you single"

listen i don’t ship jet and zuko but the thought of zuko turning to someone equally as jaded and anguished as he is in a time of desperation and internal strife really strikes a chord because it serves as such a contrast to his relationship with sokka

i’m just picturing zuko at his lowest, when he is so beside himself and everyone around him, as he desperately searches for some—any—kind of distraction. he stumbles upon jet, a boy with his own harrowing past, and the relationship that forms between the two is exactly that—a distraction as intense and turbulent in its reckless beginning as it is in its abrupt ending. long-term, a relationship so turbulent was never sustainable; they were both too angry, too broken, and too blinded by the remnants of themselves. but in a moment of desperation, it gives zuko what he needs. what he thinks he deserves.

so when zuko meets sokka—really meets him this time—he is totally unprepared for the warrior’s genuine, goofy nature. sokka is patient and kind and slowly teaches zuko to view the world not with uncompromising solemnity but with a hopeful heart. the relationship they cultivate together is gentle, unassuming, and zuko realizes that what he needs is not jet’s fire but sokka’s calm. and he’s never felt anything like it.
