Ah ok I found more! Disclamer though, I don’t know anything about the musical. It seems at one point, Benny’ skin color is mentionned and something about colorism/racism? It’s a serious part and usually the audience is just as serious but when Hakyeon acted that part, starlights laughed thinking it was a joke because N is tanned. And it seems like other starlights are tweeting that it shouldn’t be something to laugh at            

I think I’ve talked about this before at some point, but there is always going to be something problematic about Korea putting on a production of a musical in which the characters are talking about their experiences with race within the musical. The whole musical is about Latinx characters in America, and as you can imagine, this is definitely not something that people living in a homogenous culture like Korea can understand. When they first decided to bring the musical to Korea years ago, there was a lot of backlash just for this reason.

As for Benny, his character by definition is the only non-hispanic character. Considering he was played by Christopher Jackson, you could say that Benny is black (though I don’t know enough about Christopher Jackson to assume parentage). The fact that Starlights were laughing at it just shows that people were right that the musical should never have been brought to Korea in the first place. It’s a joke to them because they see dark skin as a joke. In the musical it should absolutely not have been seen as a joke, because there are people who live with this every day of their lives, and they just can’t see that it is racism. Because the whole cast is Korean.

Does this mean I think Hakyeon was type-cast because of his darker skin by Korean beauty standards? No. I don’t think that’s what the casting directors were thinking, but the fact that people think that Hakyeon’s skin color is a joke, and that the musical is condoning it when it was written and acted by Latinx/black actors is pretty much expected at this point, and I’m through with it. I’m glad Hakyeon is getting musical experience. I hope he enjoys it, and I hope this is the last time In the Heights is performed in Korea.

You know what I love most about Vixx? Jaehwan loves acting cute and being the center of attention and the rest of them... let him. Like, they push him to the front and let him be the one everyone focuses on in interviews or in shows. They don’t try to cut in, they let him do his thing. Hakyeon will sometimes rein him in, but other than that, Jaehwan gets the attention he wants and they love him for that. No one fights him for that attention.

So, I think it’s pretty clear that Leo did everything in the past, and N is making his same mistakes, or something. N is in the present, so he’s with all of the members in the scenes, but then we see Leo without anyone around him, in his pale clothes, like a shadow of the past. N is walking where he once walked. It is pretty beautifully done. Leo has scenes that mirror N’s, and that’s it. He isn’t with the other members.

I was watching the 160825 cut of 我爱偶像 where N and Apple were MCs together in Nanjing, and they were really such a good team. I love Apple so much, she’s such a cutie and just happy and full of life while she was super nervous, and she admires N, and N was complimenting her and making sure she wasn’t too nervous and they worked so well together. I just want more. I’m probably now Apple’s number one fan, tbh. I just want more of her with Vixx, because she’s really such a good interviewer/host and Vixx seems to like her as well.
