Lena Luthor rant

Let me just start by saying I love Alex Danvers, she's one of my favorite characters, but I'm deeply disappointed in her over the whole "I have to look at Lena Luthor like a villain" thing. Even the reasons she listed are bullshit.

First, the Lex thing. Of course she didn't fucking tell them he was out, he is her brother. Despite the fact he is a homicidal asshole, she loves him deeply. And yet, at the end of the day, she killed him to protect her chosen family, when they have all lied to her and doubted her at several points. And I find it a bit hypocritical considering Alex let Jeremiah escape when she was supposed to take him in. So yeah, maybe Lena wasn't honest then, but it wasn't because she is a Luthor. It was because like any human being she would find it difficult to turn her back on a person she truly loved despite their shortcomings.

Then, we have the Sam Arias thing. It's unfair to hold this against her. It isn't like she kidnapped Sam and tortured in that basement or something. She was doing her hardest to help her friend, with her conscent, because she didn't want to lose her and leave her child an orphan. How could they expect her to tell them that Sam was Reign when she couldn't be sure what would they do to her if they knew? For all she knew she would be locked up or be used as a lab rat, or worse, killed. Who in their right mind would risk that? At the end of the day, who was it that saved Sam? Lena did.

And the Kryptonite. You know who else can do Kryptonite? Lex Luthor and Maxwell Lord. And out of the three of them, who was it that used it against Superman and/or Supergirl? Not Lena. Maybe she didn't tell them because she was afraid that what it did actually happen, would happen. Supergirl and the DEO being distrustful of her, using her friends to spy on her and compare her to her psycho family, to look at her like just another evil Luthor. Gee, I wonder why she kept it a secret.

But you know what the real kicker is? that all of that would have panned out in a different way if she had known that Kara was Supergirl. Maybe if she had known who her best friend really was she would have been more forthcoming, to keep her safe and to prove to them that she was not like Lillian and Lex. But no, they had to keep her out of the loop, even after helping them save the world over and over, pouring her resources and risking her life. You can't be distrustful of someone and yet expect them to trust you. It doesn't work right way. No one can't demand something they're not willing to give in return.

So yes Alex, maybe Lena sometimes led a double life but literally all of her friends and family had one too, so I wouldn't be so quick to judge. Maybe if they actually tried to trust her, the woman wouldn't have to resort to creating an AI and try to program humanity into not hurting each other.

But that's just my opinion.

This is one of the issues with Supergirl as a show. They have to betray character to present the other side of the possibilities. Alex had to be the "but what if" devils advocate this episode... and it did not fit at all.

Part of me knew that this couldn’t be that easy.

This was absolutely my take when I saw it was a thing.

But here’s the beautiful additional side effect, and why I think it invokes a rage/ discomfort etc for the people it’s directed at.

In refusing to argue, in dismissing the point you are actually saying, “This is not a legitimate opinion that is worth engaging with”

It is removing the platform and the audience and the engagement that these people are used to.

This is EXACTLY why you don’t debate anti-science creationists. It’s why you don’t debate anti-vaxxers. It’s why you especially don’t debate Nazis.

When you engage and debate you actually do send the message that the argument is worth engaging with, that it is being heard and you are providing an audience and often drawing more people into the debate creating a larger circle.

When you signal that not only do you disagree but that the point isn’t even worth engaging with… well… they lose all that.

I’m a millennial and the amount of times ive already been called a boomer is downright ridiculous.

All “ok boomer” translates to is “I dont actually have an argument so I’m simply going to slap a label on you and walk away”.

I understand the sentiment behind, "Okay boomer!" But I highly disagree with the idea that arguing with Nazis, and other people with bad ideas, sends the messege that their ideas are valid. Because it doesnt. Unless you think your fellow citizens are THAT stupid. Dismissive statements are because of exhaustion... but dont ever stop telling nazis or other horrible people why they are wrong. Because what's going to happen is this: People will see and hear the Nazi or racists ideas, but they wont hear yours, instead they will hear you give a bored dismissive statement, and the messege that that sends is that, the racists and Nazis are right because you cant refute them. When you debate ANYONE the goal is NEVER to change your opponents opinion, but the audience's. So it is anything but 'a waste of time'. /my 2 cents
