n'importe quoi

There is an art- or rather, a knack to flying; it lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss.

Its a dressing gown!

This has been a project on and off for a while, but as the weather has started to chill a bit I thought it may be good to get it into some kind of wearable state.

Pattern is a (heavily modified) free coat pattern from mood fabrics, exterior is overdyed linen, lining is cotton flannel, interfaced with cotton batting, and the collar/lapels and cuffs are done in a quilted cotton sateen!

Edwardian bicycle trousers! (with bonus shirt collar!)

The trousers are from a light-ish cotton flannel in a brown houndstooth pattern. The button fly was both fascinating and frustrating, but overall I am very pleased with the outcome! Except for the buttonholes.

The shirt was a re-cut of one of my father's old dress shirts, with a fully new collar which was very fun to make. Bonus- reusing the buttons down the front meant I only had to sew one buttonhole (I hate buttonholes)

Both patterns are by Black Snail.

In reviewing my personal quilting tag, I realized I never posted photos of my Tiffany appliqué quilt, based on the window "Magnolias and Irises" in the Met's collection.

This was the first large-scale attempt at a project of this type, and while I'm overall pleased with the result, there are definitely things I would do differently were I to attempt something like this again (starting with using a machine with a much better satin stitch...)

The 1830's dress!

pattern is a modified combination of two dresses in Patterns of Fashion 1 from around 1837. It is a higher-collared morning dress in a reproduction cotton, with tightly-gathered upper sleeves and a full skirt. The bodice is lined with polished cotton and closes center front.

Worn over a gored-bust corset and starched petticoats, including a corded one! Pelerine is a light cotton/linen blend trimmed with lace and closed with a reproduction cameo brooch.

I finally finished this RIGHT before I flew to visit the recipient, but I did it and it was very well received!

Baby quilt in an 'Attic Window' pattern, ~3'x4'. The primary fabric took nearly a month to arrive, and required a few rounds of dyeing because it was only available in aqua and not teal, but its the constellations from the ceiling of Grand Central Terminal in NYC so it was totally worth it.

Oh yeah, I made some dresses recently and finally got a chance to wear them

The one on the left has a linen/cotton blend petticoat and a print cotton caraco jacket (with a little retroussé in the back that you can’t see!) and the one on the right is 100% linen. Both are based on patterns from “Patterns of Fashion 1″

I made a thing!

Its a (poly) shearling-lined wool coat with a giant hood, made as a christmas gift for my mother.

For being one of the first large-scale garment projects I’ve done, I’m pretty happy with it! While the finished edge is bulkier than intended and impacts the lapels’ drape in a way I’m not thrilled with, it is SO COZY OMG

Pattern is from here
